Mr Wizard says that the AES is not a widely known console and that no one has access to it. Yet for those who know, the AES is EXACTLY (just without the need to put in quarters) like the MVS (which IS the arcade version), and EVERYONE should have access to that. Sure, the PS2 version might be nice to mess around with, hell, even get serious about, but a win on that (in THIS tourney) would be a tainted win marred by controversy. Perhaps in a future tourney there can be a specifically PS2 (or XB) 02 tourney, but THIS monumental first KOF tourney SHOULD be done right… and that’s on an AES.
In the best interest of the competitors, when there is a doubt as to what version of a game to use, the arcade version or version closest to the arcade version should be used. In this case, since it has been declared that evo IS console, the undisputed MOST accurate or similar to arcade port IS the AES. Minor little glitches here and there MAY be excusable for some, but this should NOT be tolerated if it does not need to be, ESPECIALLY at a tournament level, where even the slightest
nuance can mean the difference between victory and defeat (winning or losing CASH). In this case, we are talking about MAJOR differences across the board, including differences such as TIMING and COMBOS that just do NOT exist in the arcade version and affecting ALL characters!
The KOF community has EVERY right to express its views about using inferior ports when a superior port can EASILY be made available and WITH the help and support of the KOF community. We’re NOT talking about a bunch of punks COMPLAINING here, we’re talking about a COMMUNITY of COMPETITORS (NOT to be confused with those who just LOOK at games or mouth off and do NOTHING to help out) that are also trying their hardest to bring SOLUTIONS. With cooperation we can manage to attain the necessary hardware (systems AND adaptors) and more importantly, software (KOF 02 carts) needed to have a successful tourney. With the help of respected and HELPFUL community members, these needs are ALREADY starting to be met. No complaining, just solutions. Btw, much props to those helping out in these efforts.
If you disagree with the accommodations, think of what was done for the MVC2 community. It would be an unfair bias to accommodate them and not others. (Btw, imho what was done there was the correct thing to do.) Listening to the COMPETIORS helped to squash outrage and controversy. Let us try to do the same here. The KOF community is doing all it can to help secure resources (which I see no one else doing); it HUMBLY asks to be met half way in its efforts to make 02 OFFICIAL at Evo2k5.
Btw, this is NOT just my view, I am not so arrogant as to claim to BE the KOF community or some sort of head in it. This is the JOINT expression of members who are HELPING in efforts to bring (a respectable) KOF 02 to evo.
After a serious conversation with Mr Wizard with have come to a conclusion that the tourney will not be on AES. Unfortunaly we were not able to make him realize the importance of this tourney for the KOF community here in the US. This also means that THE K-FORCE and the rest of the SoCal team will not be joining or voting for it. I know some people can take it like we are spoiled and that we are just bitching, but we have dedicated many years to this game and we feel that if this game is played on a console is like an insult and disrespectful cause some other games get special treatment and we dont. If this tourney will still happen we wish good luck to all the participant and their staff.
DUMASS I dont think you are a dumbass people like you really represent how strong the community feels for our game. Thanks for your support but I think the organizers care how we feel and the passion we have for this game. KOF is the strongest community in the world not only in the US.
Goodluck to all
BTW if they decide to chagen it later make sure to let me know we will still help out.
time stop- or maybe we found out the flaws in the ports and tried to improvise?? how the fuck is that whinning. why dont you use all that energy and write to SNK as to why they cant make a fucking decent port since 98 and 2k??
Although i fully agree with dumbass and the answer, i still would like to see kof at evo so i would still vote for kof.
The answer- you should vote regardless just to get kof in. Hopefully SNK will make better ports in the future.
Hello friends, I have a doubt What type of controls use in the match? Controls arcade or generic controls? , in any case each person must take her control? or the EVO staff put utility? Excuse my english. I am Mexican and very I am interested in making the trip to participate in the match.
kof2002 is a good choice. in my opinion the second best kof out there, not as good as 98. Hopefully Ryan Hart will enter it and show eveyone that can play 2d games with the best of them. I remember in kof98 that he was awesome!1!
ENGLISH:
Most likely there will already be controllers here that you can use, and they will be real arcade joysticks, not some cheap PS2 controllers. Most likely, you will be able to provide your own joystick if you want, but it can’t have any macro buttons (as in, buttons that will execute moves for you, like a button for QCF+punch).
Looks like the game will be on XBOX, so the controller deal won’t be as bad because there will likely be some here already set up.
im still joining…if by some streak of luck i end up winning the tournament, i figure whatever opinion or fact i have to tell after the tourney would carry some serious weight for future SNK tournaments
i just want the SNK faithful to show up this year so we can get future SNK games at EVO i.e. Neo Geo Battle Coliseum that way everyone else will finally realize how many of us are serious SNK fighting game competitors…yeah, im not really down for PS2 KOF2002 but eff it…
i’ll add to this when i think of a good take to input…
well. you can always BYOC the AES version, run a side tourney there, only problem is, kof gets no exposure, but at least the real players will be there. better than nothing…
I hate to say this guys, as much as I love the KOF series, there will never be a huge following as say MVC2. As much as I hate MvC2, they have the following and stating KOF is just as large in the USA is a joke. That’s one of the reasons why EVO organizers are accomdating the MvC2 players. As much as they bitch and moan, nothing says success better than a 128 to 256 player turn out. The organizers of EVO made a correct decision by not allowing AES in the tourney.
For one, not every state, not every city, and definitely not everyone has KOF 02 in the arcades to play. The last place I saw such game was at Arcade Infinity.
2nd, KOF 02 is only played seriously within certain groups of people, not across nation and last I remember, that’s one of the main criteria to have that game inducted into EVO.
And most importantly, not everyone has a real arcade stick that’s converted to fit into a AES system. I’m sure its possible, but lets face it, how many people would actually go out and buy a converter for their sticks just for one game they will probably only play seriously at one event? I can understand if there were tournaments around the nation on KOF 02, but there isn’t.
Well, ps2 is still better than nothing. So i’m still voting for it. japanese players came to evo last for vf4 to play a different version, if you aren’t willing to comprimise fine we’ll have a fun tournament without k-force. And I bet the japanese will still come and dominate without bitching. People should still bring AES and MVS for the fuck of it though, I’ll have my Xbox if anyone wants to play on that.
Suck it up and adapt. I’ve played A3 on the PS1 plenty enough to tell you that if you have skills, you can adapt them to any version of the game.
Justin would have won MvC2 on the Xbox too.
So, i’m going to laugh at all of you KOF players when your game gets dissed at EVO for the 3rd year running.
What will be funny is if SC2 gets in, b/c that game is DRASTICALLY different than the arcade, yet no one bitches.
The Answer, if you were a real player, you’d suck it up, and play the game within the boundaries given. Because honestly, the thousands of players who play KOF on their PS2’s at home are more important than you.
I’ll be fine w/ CvS2 on PS2. Whatever, man. You got 3 months. Practice up.
Truth is that the best 2k2 players live way far of US. China, Mexico, Brazil and Japan are probably the hottest spots, but players from several other countries would probably win american tourneys as well…
My point is that, if you want a high level Evo, theres no point in scheduling 2k2 for it now. To have top 2k2 players, you gotta schedule it for Evo 2k6 , allowing time for international players to organize tourneys and collect donations to build some cash fopr travelling (this assuming that SNK players worldwide would care about Evo).
Having it now, you will just have an US champ (or who sucks the less). And its not like US sucks in 2k2 compared to the japanese (like CvS2 or 3rd Strike). Sevetral countries have 2k2 as their main game and, unfortunately, with a much smaller following, US sucks in compariosn to any of them.
This right here sums up why people are clashing with your (K-Force) ideas. You make it sound like your opinion is the only one that matters when in reality, most players would rather play a decent port than no KOF at all. Basically, you’re not going to get much respect by dissing 90% of the players who will probably enter the KOF tourney.
