If that’s the case are game defualt macro’s on the PS2 allowed in the tournament?
Because you can’t remove them.
Well after seeing Wiz last post and since I had never really played the PS2 version for real I decided to give the PS2 a chance lastnite. I called some friends who are going to EVO to come over and play with me to get different points view. We all agree that the PS2 Version is not for a high competitive level.
1st. Timing is noticible different(Billy :d: B,B,B,-> :dp:B )
2nd. Recoveries are slight different.(specially with Takuma)
3rd. Buffering is different (eg. Iori s.C->HSDM)
This version is more for like fun and unlocking the secret stuff than for a major tourney. Im really happy that they are going to give KOF a chance, I just want it to be a fair one. I am going to stop buggign about the AES for the tourney I just want to make a point clear and hopefully come to an agreement in wich we can have the AES and the PS2 working together.
Why is that? The PS2 version is NOT ARCADE perfect. It is a shitty port, if you want to introduce KOF 02 that is great and I am all for it. But seeing as some of the SNK supporters here are offering up there own hardware so that this game can be played in its original and proper format maybe you should change your mind some?
Alot of people will be deterred, myself included, from coming to Evo to play KOF 02 if it is on PS2. It is not the same as the Neo Geo MVS/AES version.
I just cant believe people are offering up there own Neo Geo home systems and you are denying them. AES/MVS is exactly the same, dont throw away the oppurtunity of being able to have this game at Evo true to its arcade form.
No man, it shouldn’t be on PS2. The PS2 port is like the original Fatal Fury ported from the AES over to the SNES. It is not worthy of high level competitive play, neither is the XBOX version. If you guys are going to all the hassle to ensure that the Evo team can utilise your systems (Which also puts you at a risk considering that AES’ systems and carts are expensive and cost alot more to replace than PS2’s) then it should be allowed. The PS2 port is inferior, enough said.
Question- assuming it’s PS2 KOF 2k2. Would King and Shingo be allowed or banned?
Geese, Rugal, and Gaynuts definitely will be, just curious about the other two extra chars, since they’re not overpowered.
I dont really want to get into that since I still have hopes that will do it in AES’s. That way we wont even bother to see who is banned or not.
COOLER SAMA I agree with you 100% I was suggesting the PS2 for average players and fanboys who cant tell the difference, and just want to play with the pretty 3d back grounds. For those who really need the full potential of the game we have the AES. :tup:
There are probably many other reasons as to why they don’t want to use your AES systems, but one that comes to mind is that there is no guarantee that you’ll even show up. What if you guys cancel at the last second? To have the entire tourney rest on your shoulders isn’t fair, not to mention it’s not a smart idea or a professional one from an organizer’s perspective. What about liability? Will you be ok with it if your systems get damaged or stolen? I think these are good questions to think about.
The only way I could see the AES thing working is if you guys “donated” your systems to the tourney ahead of time, waived all rights to them for the duration of the tourney, and if you went you could just pick them up at the end. Ps2s seem to be by far the easiest solution. But then, I’m not Evo staff.
there are only two options for this tournament, xbox when it comes out in june, or ps2. Evo is a console tournament, if you want an arcade touranment, hold your own.
The Neo Geo everyone is offering to bring is a home console, here’s a pic.
I know converters might be an issue since they seem to cost a lot for PS2->Neo Geo, and not many people have them.

its not a widely known console thats my point, no one has access to that.
Well its kind of expencive thats why not a lot of people own one. There are people willing to take it regardless. There are adapters PS2 to AES for like $20 on ebay. I have 4 MAS sticks for AES and Im willing to take them if necesary.
Its not a supergun its a console you can see on the picture that is not big or bulky.

It doesnt matter, the equiptment and the game has to be available to the public at large. That isnt. Look its quite simple, if you dont like how evolution is moving forward, you are welcome to have a tournament on your own. Posting every 3 seconds about AES is going to get your game thrown out of the touranment.
The point is that everything you can do in the PS2 you can do in the AES but NOT everything you can do in the AES you can do in the PS2
They can practice all they want on the PS2 in their homes and apply it on AES’s
The best will be to just leave as it is, or like he said, the
game will be removed.

Finally KOF is mentioned to get into EVO. All I can say is it took bloody long enough. Virtua Fighter 4 got in the past two years and I dont know what its like in the U.S.A but nobody plays that here. So KOF has been deserving this for a long time.
Wiz has a point, out of all the SNK peeps coming, only me, K-Force heads, and a few others say they’re bringing their AES…
I have no huge issue with PS2 2k2 outside of the quick-map buttons that can’t be removed and very slight slowdown issues.
And remember this shit can still happen in the BYOC room.
They should use KOF 2k because it’s one of the best KOF edition ever! :tup:
Saotome come on man. You know very well that the PS2 version is different, specially timing wich is very important. You only see a few of us posting cause only a few of us have Interner access. I have talked to the people who going with me and they feel the same way.
I take EVO extremely serious, thats why I would like to see it on AES. This is a NATIONAL tourney not just any weekly thing. Atleast thats how I see it. Its the most important KOF tourney ever seen in the US and it has to be perfect. Im pretty sure we can help Wiz getting some AES setups if thats the isssue.

If there’s no other choice, I’ll suck it up and play PS2. If you can manage to get Wiz to change his mind, I have an AES and a standard stick that I’ll toss in the pool.
