"I'm not Gouken..." Oni General Discussion Thread

yeah tell that to abel

lol jk… still nerfed to oblivion tho

like I said those same characters that got nerfed also got buffed, AE tries to nerf defensive tactics and certain abusable things despite sf4 being a defensive game, rose automatically fails because she’s a defensive character while also being a half assed chun, is gen and hakan not stronger in AE than super ? -_- ok then

erm… abel is still more than viable, tbh his changes wouldn’t even faze top players, all it takes is more work which should be welcomed, only thing that got nerfed to shit was his U2 which was not even surprising, everything else is pretty small, unless your a flow chart abel then this shouldn’t even affect you to much.

-are you serious ? his ultra did insane dmg, had a retarded start up and it was a grab, of course it would get nerfed and why are players relying on ultra’s, losing invincibility on his tortilla makes sense, you know why ? because not every character in ssf4ae can deal with it, have you actually seen elfs new jabs ? -_- nuff said.
-I don’t really care for rose, she’s straight up defensive which again is what got nerfed in AE same deal with chun only she’s far better than rose.

  • vanilla ? people still care about what people had in vanilla ? this is AE, I mean they could of made gen better from super… oh wait they did and gen players are happy with the majority of things they got.
  • for starters many people still play abel and abel was balanced ? err…no, the guys a mobile grappler who does big dmg and has many opportunities to set this up, the changes in AE made him balanced, I don’t think you take the characters that have poor defensive options into consideration and I also don’t think you understand how easy mode this character could be in super, link a few jabs and shorts xx TT, empty jump xx TT, f.mk dash - a few jabs and shorts xx TT or even wheel kick if you smell a jump, roll CH cr.fp xx ultra -_- not only does this character have a great rushdown game he also has great reversals that still keep him in control. All you need to do with abel is develop your oki in training, put a few points into your yomi skils and there you have it, your very own abel.

wow you made it sound so easy to play abel lol.

i wanted to reply to your earliest post but i thought hmm this guy is really talking out of his ass, you just proved me right with that follow up post.

so yeah, not feelin like wasting my time correcting all the wrong stuff in your post (especially the abel stuff)… maybe some other time.

WOW…You obviously know nothing about Abel, for some reason people think Abel = Easy Wins. Try playing the character some time, if your defense isn’t super solid or you can’t intimidate / mindfuck your opponent you’ll get blown up real fast…your post is horribly misinformed and screams ignorance.

Back on topic, is Oni’s frame data released today ?

theres a thread for this. ive translated most of the stuff(albeit the mook having a few blatant errors) on the day the data was released (29th june)

Thx HFX…Good Work

im not tellin people to ignore him or anything. im all for good discussion with minimum trolling as possible (lol easier said than done i know), i just dont have the energy to argue with him and correct the ignorant stuff he posted.

lool actually I no enough about abel to say those things because I did used to play abel on the side to my main cody, I make abel sound easy because of how fast I picked up his normals/specials and started making up strats and then actually doing them on ppl with barely any trouble unless it was zangief, t.hawk, bison, akuma, chun honda etc. It isn’t hard to intimidate an opponent with no real defence, show them they can’t jump, whiff a normal or walk forward and it is much easier of course this depends on the character and player but my post was aimed at the characters with poor defence, well this is AE maybe there’s more stuff I don’t know about but I generally thought abel was the type of character that made you second guess your actions if that’s wrong then I guess I’m wrong.

ok i actually do have one request for Oni.

I would like an Ex-forward.airdash that has 1-hit armor and, when done low enough to the ground, has little recovery.

Getting in on turtle players and zoners is really annoying and makes the round last much longer than it should be. I wouldn’t mind spending meter just to get in safely.

I find the trajectory of the air fireball annoying, many times some one jumps or whatever and it sails right over their heads… it would be good if you could slightly aim it forward or backwards by pressing a direction during the animation. Right now it seems more of a gamble to use it than anything… I’ve done forward throw and then used the Air Ultra to chip them to death, but that doesn’t always present itself either.

yeah, the funniest thing I have done with U1 was I launched straight up against a jerk Bison player and he - I kid you not - jumped straight into it from about :hk: distance in front of me after I launched it. He ate the whole thing about 5 feet over my head. Dang, but Bison can jump high, cain’t he? heh.

forward throw, air ultra is a bad idea, shouldnt make that a habit at all… most of the cast have moves that has projectile invisibility(especially with meter)…

doing air ultra is a gamble with wayy higher risk than reward imo.

after a forward throw if you need to chip so bad just do hp electric fb.

I’m really sorry if i am off topic here, but anyhow, here is a little video i did for a friend so he can better understand option selects. Hopefully someone else will find this useful.

Good stuff. I don’t suppose you could get us any hitbox photos could you?

uuuhhh so Onis Alt 2

if you beat him up for like 40 minutes to an hour, his skin slowly crumbles away over time

it’s fucking sick

Let me start off by saying that i dont know too much about the theory of street fighter. ok so…

it annoyed me to hear this but it was brought to my attention that oni has no true “mix-ups” and that they are all gimmicks. the argument that was brought to my attention was that oni can be jabbed during certain moments during his “mix-ups” which would completely shut them down. in comparison to viper, she has true 50/50 mix-ups that can be jabbed out of. so what im asking you guys: is this true? are they really mix-ups? and if they are not, i want to say that we are all wasting our got damn time. i feel like i need something solid and consistent. because gimmicks dont work on a “smart” player.

i did argue that oni’s goal is to “program” the opponent into only blocking. but with this thrown into my face, i dont know what to believe.

You can destroy his body by using :hp:,:hk:,and focus. Depending on if you are standing, jumping or crouching you will destroy different parts of his body based on where the attack lands, low attacks destroy legs, high attacks destroy shoulder/face, middle area destroys abs. Lvl 3 Focus attack will actually destroy all the parts at once.

Anyone ever try canceling a full charged LP fireball, FADC, then doing one of Oni’s cross up chops? Just sort of hit me, wouldn’t the fireball keep you safe? Assuming the slash is faster than the fireball.

Like use this set up to create the illusion of an unblockable, tricking your opponent to block the wrong way like Dhalsim/Seth fireball+teleport traps

Its possible, I’ve seen people use the ElectricBall ( :f::df::d::db::b:+:p: ) FADC :hk:Slash. There is a video posted somewhere don’t remember which thread.
