silly combos like those FA L Slash U2 and FA L Slash M SRK FADC U1 things we were discussing earlier.
Also I was testing alot of things to try and get an idea of Oni’s frame data for block punishes.
I stuck with it through ranked because I just couldn’t pin point why I was losing so much. After a while I realized I just wasnt being patient at all. I was just pressing forward on auto-pilot offense and trying to force my way out of pressure on defense instead of just blocking and waiting for an opening.
In the end (as Ive called it quits for the day) I went from 1700pp to 400pp now im back to 800pp and on my way back up.
After I starting being patient, I stopped getting opened up so easy.
Its a weird balance with Oni, where patients and footsies are key, but after a knock-down its critical to keep up the pressure and most important of all; Keep Them Guessing.
For me at this time, comboing safely into L Slash is of the utmost importance. Opponents are beginning to realize that Oni is at an advantage at this point, so I am always trying to read whether Throw Block or Attack. Typically I look for the throw first, then I will mix it up with crLk crLp crHp xx L Slash reps, Stomps and SRKs ( I dont care if I eat a punishment on a blocked SRK once, Its worth feeling the opp out)
But to improve the L Slash pressure game, I would really like to develop a viable Option Select to use after L Slash is blocked, and potentially a different one for after it hits. I know it could never be a, be all end all, but I would just like a tricky option to throw in there so I get in me opps head pieces.
I feel like TK L Air Dash, H Air Tatsu could be useful. It reminds me of a Box Jump attack from MVC. Anyway I want to see if it has any viable place in Oni’s game. Potential places to use it would be during a fireball war or after an UTK paired with a charged L Fireball. Just something I wanna try out.
I was getting really sloppy and just trying to end rounds after one UTK with endless Stomp pressure… It doesnt work
Abandon footsies and abandon all hope
@1: Why on earth do you want to throw out srk after a blocked string??? Lk.slash and stomp makes sense, but srk, hell no.
@2: you can use it as wakup pressure after f.i f.throw, but you don’t wanna tk the dash, just jump and dash on the way down, then tatsu. Correct spacing and you can normal and crossup with this tatsu.
throwin a shoryu(or better, ex shoryu) after a blocked lk slash can be part of the mindgames… even top player like wao includes that as part of his options, “show your opponent that you can ex shoryu after an lk slash), make em hesitate to press buttons”… of course, do so after calculating the risk… if your opponent has ultra stocked, lol youse a dumbass for trying that stuff…
Ya if you never toss out a SRK after blocked lk.slash then you will be getting counterhit left and right by c.lk’s and c.lp’s when you try to follow up with normals of your own. I guess if you never stick anything out after it’s blocked though then you don’t need to worry about it. But if that’s the case you prob shouldn’t be ending blockstrings in lk.slash in the 1st place unless you just love being -2 at point blank range :).
come on your kidding. Have you seen the way some ppl mash crouch tech during pressure. Throw an SRK out after you L SLash Throw a couple times, and tell me you dont land it.
I am a Gouken user, I like to use Gouken standing heavy kick a lot during my fight… Is pretty fast as a poke…
I am learning ONI now, I try to find a similar normal of him to use as poke. I know forward hard punch is good, or neutral heavy kick, but I find these normal are quite slow in start up… Any suggestion? I think standing mid kick got some potential…
haha yeah i know. i tried stomping people to death too and it gets beat by s.block. It does tend to work on jumpy players or if they’re worried about getting hit with hp.slash or EX.slash… which also tends to makes them jumpy.
Stomp rushing into a win is fucken funny.
i haven’t played in a while, but does the rh.stomp cross-up on their wake-up?
s.mk is good up close, but it’s also a little slow. Oni’s normals get slower are their range gets longer.
you might wanna stick to throwing plasma and punishing FA attempts with ex-fireballs. When i mained gouken in SSF4, i hardly use fireballs at mid-range as pokes because of the fear of getting FA-ed and crumpled, but with Oni, that worry is gone… well… almost gone
It does not. After having played Elf all thru super ive tried hundreds of times to get it to cross up and it does not. In fact if it accidentally crosses up, say they walk under, it hits once at the top and your opponent continues to stand up while youre on your recovery frames and you eat big punishment.
What I HAVE noticed tho is that on your opponents wake up, if youre right up next to them and you EX stomp, you can get their dps to auto correct to the other side since you do travel forward a bit and you end up stomping them back down. It worked beautifully on Yuns wakeup and if i can nail down the timing this can be some serious intimidation to make them stop mashing dp.
What exactly are Oni’s options after a succesful EX demon slash? I’ve been thinking he can do some pretty nasty mixups after. Suppose you hit target combo 2 and cancel into ex demon slash. You could either cross up with H or ex demon slash crossup, or l and m for the front version. Or, if they try to throw out, you ceould tech (not very beneficial) or try to beat it out. If they poke, you could try to go under with crouching lp or lk or something or also just beat it out with like ex groundpound. Like I said, I’ve just been thinking about this. If he can actually mixup pretty bad after EX demon slash, and not just with mroe Ex demon slash resets, then he might even have a pseudo-vortex that works after demon slash instead of untechable knockdown, and that would definitely boost his offensive power. Has anyone tried this, or are his offensive options limited after an Ex demon slash?
umm… constant demon slashing doesn’t work because simple jab mashing and dp mashing can stop them.
That’s why you need to incorporate all of his specials, throws, and blockstrings into your mix-up. And yes, he has a lot of tools to mix you up, but not that many after ex.slash.
the best thing to do, if you don’t have ultra, is to lk.stomp after EX.slash. i think it does about 210 damage and it keeps them close for more mix-ups.
I think its worth it to try at least one rep of bMp xx EX Slash after the first EX slash I land in a match, but you can bet if they block it once there probably not gonna miss it again.
So if you wanna play up close do as Deadds says and L Stomp for UTK or do fHk to reset the battle
And doing EX Slash bMp M Slash is not a good idea because you will whiff and your opp will have frame advantage.
i made that post without any ill intention towards anyone, and you want to catch feelings now?
as for trolling, err i think im one of the earliest on this forum to support doing(or at least showing your opponent that you have that option) a srk/ex srk after a lk slash (you can refer to my translation of wao’s notes somewhere in the oni forums)
nah dont take it like that…
But I did see it as a direct sarcastic statement towards me…
thats cool though I repect your input, and you ability
EDIT:
But yeah you are totally right HFX I had you confused. My bad bro, it just sounded so sarcastic.
Anyway it was actually Troll that said that to me, so… Im a dick.
My the schwartz be with you
