Wtf? Gouken does not have better defensive options than oni unless you’re fighting against terrible players. Ex.tatsu and high parry lose to most low pokes and crouching, demonflip can be easily punished since it’s guaranteed that gouken will land close to the opponent thanks to it’s tracking attribute, parries are easily baited, blocking is very dangerous for gouken, and his back grab can be easily tech-ed.
Gouken’s defensive options only apply to certain scenarios, where as Oni’s SRK beats lows, highs, and grabs. 1 move beats at least 3 different situations.
The only moves that gouken has that have multiple scenario usability, is the Ex.Tatsu(high attacks and grab), Ex-parry, (low and high attacks) and ex-demonFlip(avoiding low hits and grabs). The only buff he really needed was an Ex.tatsu that also hits low.
So im sitting here at work, bored, theory fighting in my head with myself and here’s what im thinking about.
In the situations were st:hp: can be used to stuff Jump ins or flying attacks like Chicken Wing; would it be properly advantageous to cancel Slash from st:hp:.
The real question is if any of the Slashes are safe from reversals.
Ill set some stuff up in training mode on Monday to see if st:h: xx (L,H, EX) Slash is safe as AA and provides significant mix-up on:
Chicken Wing
Jump ins
Dive Kicks(not sure which ones can be beat clean by st:hp: )
Guy’s The People’s Elbow
what else Hakans Dumbo Lunge IDK
Maybe st:hp: beats Jaguar Dives, I hate that guy with his head band and silly hair
4bars is fine for casuals but IMO its not worth fighting a ranked match with <5bars. Just gonna wind up getting frustrated win or loss if theres lag . and thats no fun
if you’re getting smacked out it, it’s either because they’re expecting it or they’re just pressing buttons. Use your normals, fireballs, stomps, and srk’s to keep them blocking and then hit em with a hp or Ex slash to make them uncomfortable…
gg on xbox live. after that match I started doing alot more stomps while my opps were waking up and it really paid off. obviously there is a good and bad time to use them but I didn’t know they were as useable as they are
Did anyone try to take anything from the Desk video into actual matches, not full combos of course just bits?
I for one, during Fireball wars or after a hard knockdown, have tried to use Charged L Fireball, TK L Air Dash, H Air Tatsu. I havent had alot of success with it, but it doesnt seem to unsafe when the spacing is right. It feels like I have to be alittle closer than I could like to be for charging a projectile in order to get the range right for the Air Tatsu.
Also I keep wanting to add in some EX Fireball, jab xx EX Fireball stuff in during corner combos. Gouken has something similar that could net you huge stun but it was very char specific.
My idea requires a good bit of meter, but Oni is a good battery:
crLk crLp crHp xx L Slash, FADC, bMp xx EX Fireball stLp bMp Hp xx H SRK
This would require alot of time in training to wire the muscle memory because there would be very few opportunity to ever go for this, due to the corner and meter requirements plus above average execution level.
Desk performs it on Boxer Midscreen, and he does FADC forward, but if you notice it is a very patient FADC and then he waits a few frames before doing the L Slash. You gotta imagine that its a tight link, if it weren’t Desk probably wouldnt waste his time on it (Show off  jk)
Well then we can test those to and make a proper list. All of these Char specific things are going to be up to us to figure out. I dont think Gamefaqs is gonna put the work in. Oni is totally new in every way so we have a good bit of work ahead of us to unlock him completely, Desk def gave us a boost this week.
i just added another standing back.mp to by bnb. So, now it’s jump-in.attack(or c.lk >> c.lp) >> b.mp >> b.mp >> s.hp >> hp.srk
i will try to add another back.mp next time i play and practice. And while the desk oni combo video was awesome, I’m still waiting for his set-ups video. I’d do it myself but i would have to use my cell phone’s camera to record. so, it wouldn’t look good.
ok so it is now my belief ththat testing and training is the worst possible thing. I spent all morning testing specifics. I learned alot then went into ranked. in ranked a swiftly lost 1000 pp.
I swear I feel like ripping my hair out
