Or to wait behind. Few characters can challenge the MP electro ball in a fireball war, and eventually they try to jump over it. about 75% of the time, you can throw an MP EB, and then catch the jump with f.HK just before they land, sending them back into the corner. If you’re getting zoned out (by anyone but Dahlsim), this is a great way to beat them at their own game.
So I think this might be an interesting setup:
After a back throw, instant air (jump back) lp dash xx hk tatsu. I think if timed properly you can get this to hit in front of them.
Also after a back throw, instant air (neutral jump) lp dash xx hk tatsu. Again, if timed properly, this will hit behind them.
Both of these should be able to have the mk/hk tatsu followup applied for better oki and positioning.
This gives us a better crossup mixup after a backthrow if it works (maybe some other people can help test?)
At the very least, if it isn’t good after backthrow, you can get a crossup on an opponent your standing right next to by instant air jump back lp dash xx hk tatsu into the mk/hk tatsu followup. Thoughts?
oh yes i went against a fb sagat earlier today and he went for the usual FB-Punish strategy, he destroyed me the first round cuz i was trying to get in by air thinking my FB game was inferior but on the second round all i did was beat one of his regular fireballs with an ex hadouken and then took it from there with medium and hard electric balls, i controlled the rest of that match so easily, i say it now Onis zoning is one of the best in the game, its just not as brrainded as sagat or ryu, you have to mix the ton of options he has.
How to deal with teleporters is something i cant do yet though.
See this is why I’d like to see some proper frame data.
Ive tried Ex Stomp on wake up and I get punished on startup, like always.
How many frames of invincibility does it have.
at vynx
what do u mean, Seth and Sim?
throw out fakes and destroy them when ure in a fireball war, always been the general strategy to beat teleporters.
Sims teleport escape, unsure YET, im sure we will find some nice OS with Berserker Slash
A good timed srk could prob beat sims escape teleport (if he’s in the corner that is) and ground pound should too.
out side of corner maybe HK slash. or a dash and a cmd normal.
hey guys. do you know who the top ranked oni players on xbox live are?
Wildcat and Yoyda I think.
can someone please explain to me how Oni is a zoner ? because that makes no sense to me at all, I don’t know about you guys but I rush down with Oni and on defence it isn’t even that bad just time your dp to hit in between certain block strings, it used to be hard to approach but f.mk, f.hp, forward dash and anti airing make it a lot easier
he is not purely a zoner nor a rushdown if thats your quiestion, he has te ability to be both depending on the matchup though. His fireball game is superior to most except akuma perharps because he has a lot of options turning this as everything else about ONI a guessing game for the opponent instead of a retarded input war like ryu vs sagat.
Has anyone seen a full list of frame data or hitboxes for Oni yet?
speaking of Akuma, prob the hardest match-up ive faced so far.
Rog is also pretty rough, his buttons are better than Oni.
what I hate about oni is that the priority of his specials are ass apart from mp and hp srk, i feel like he’s been rushed, i mean this guys got great normals, easy combos, ok pokes, somewhat ok frame traps, tons of combo variations, does big dmg/stun but doesn’t have a legit way to get inside, I don’t understand capcoms thinking behind this character. yun and yang have bad defence but there offence more than makes up for it, why couldn’t they have done this for oni sigh… retreats back to cody
ya, the lack of ability to get in and to keep enemies at what has been called the sweet spot is the general complaint. Priority on his new specials and crappier versions of the usual shoto abilities are the reason.
You really need to make the best of every jump in and knock down you get cuz it might be the only one in the match.
So ive been trying to set up some vortex shenanigans on the opponents wake up and ive found two noteable things.
-
on your opponents wake up if you just neutral jump and at the height of the jump you HK tatsu it beats out wake up srk 9/10 times. Gets your opponent to stop random srks and set up your wake up game. (not sure if this is a general shoto trick but ive never played a shoto before)
-
after and untech. knockdown if you dash up so that youre as close to your opponent as possible and jump forward as if to cross up if you time it just right you can get his HK to hit in front and land in front or his MK to cross up and land behind. This setup could lead to big combos. Not very reliable and may be character specific but its worked for me on Yun and Guy so far. Let me know if this is true or if im just getting lucky on some situations.
Ill try to post some videos up if i get the chance.
its pretty hard to setup vortexes of some kind with oni
his back throw puts the opponent in a awkward range (was the same with reg Akuma) and his front throw, well i tried some setups with berserker slash, i dunno how reliable they are.
Its too bad he cant combo normals into his sweep, itd be so sick
if you wan tto combo to sweep, comboing to chop achieves similar results. After Chop you get safe jumps or slightly ambiguous crossup setups. Sadly nothing really with j.rh crossups since the timings just don’t work out.
I honestly dont think anyone is going to develop a proper ‘Vortex’ with Oni.
Ive been trying to find some setups for ambiguous cross-ups with j:hk: but I havent found a solid one yet.
Do you guys have any setups for it
Do we happen to know any of Oni’s option selects? I did a search on the forums and I couldn’t seem to turn up any information on them.
Not sure if this is already known, but with Oni you can kara throw with f+MK~LK+LP which is similar to ken’s. You can also kara throw with f+HP~LK+LP, the timing is just a little delayed for this one. You can also do a kara focus f+MK~MP. So to close the distance quickly, you can kara focus through fireballs.
