You could always OS HK Tatsu if he is abusing reversal teleport. Oni hits like a tank too so the matchup isn’t that bad.
you could also os his palm slice. I think either medium or heavy version would punish akuma’s teleport.
the website I provided pretty much teaches you the basics of Oni so its pretty easy to figure out what your going to do during a match, there a things missing like kara throws/ super, combo’s, mix ups, etc but they will come in time, I think it would be better if someone made a general discussion thread on Oni that is well organised much like an actual Oni guide.

You got this hfz69. Remember, you have superpowers now.
Not to bash EventHubs, but they offer little more than movelists and basic descriptions of special moves and notable normals. EH is great for people new to fighting games and trying to learn the basics, but we’re trying learn how competitively viable this character is. A simple guide is no substitute for frame data, damage/stun values and solid match videos IMO.

at this point I feel Oni can do a lot to his opponent especially in the corner, there’s a few things to me that make him stand out: the most obvious one is his big damage/stun output along with his combo variation, can easily punish people pressing buttons between your block strings, can get in fairly easy on an opponent with barely any trouble, his walk speed is great, his 50/50 are actually surprisingly good despite what you may think at first glance (demon slash mix up is better used within block strings that have high block stun, it’s also better you don’t use the ex version much as the flashing yellow is a dead give away -_- so LK/HK.demon slash). there’s a lot more but like i said i think it would be better to put this kind of information on a new more organised thread.

Oni’s Ultra II only worked against Roundhouse.
… man, why does deejay’s close roundhouse is written as -4 in my ae guide… its -9 in the super guide though, guess its a typo.

as for makin a thread, nah, im not really maining oni plus i dont really have the time to be honest, ill do what i can to contribute but to maintain a thread, dont think im the right person to do it.

I will definitely main Oni but because of the fact that some people won’t get AE and I’m propably forced to fight in original mode online so I’ll keep my Akuma close.

I’ve used Oni all of twice, but I’m definitely picking him up when AE hits consoles. I’m so excited that I’ve started learning Akuma. It’s been a real treat, as I’ve never used a Shoto before.
In other news, I know that Yun & Yang have developed quite a following in arcades, but it seems that there aren’t any prominent Evil Ryus or Onis. With ERyu, I’m assuming it’s because his name lacks any creativity, but how could no one pick up Oni? Is it b/c all the top players are already too invested in their current characters to switch to someone who was only released so close to Evo? Will there be an influx of dark Shotos after the tournament season winds down? Are there any big names dabbling in these characters?

Air uses E Ryu, don’t know of any top players who use Oni.
Imo as I already said, Oni isn’t a good character. And that is why I don’t think top players pick him.
From my experience talking to some top players, most of them said that Oni’s an interesting addition but he doesnt seem to have what it takes to be “up there”, basically saying he’s not good enough to be changing mains over. Of course there are also a few that straight up said “Oni’s wack” lol.
I’m not saying to everyone who is planning to main him to forget about it though.
Extra info: There are only 2 Master rank Oni at the moment, wao and dashio(shin aojiru guile).
I think Oni has a lot of untapped potential, he’s still a relatively unknown quantity. Applications for all those command normals will be found soon enough I’d wager.

But I do choose mains based on aesthetics, not on their competitve viability. (I understand that you’re quoting others, too–I’m not implying you choose based on strength alone.)
Thanks for the tip on the Oni Masters! Keep an eye out for me on PSN after the AE disc is released. I’m terrible, but I enjoy playing if you want to bang out a few friendlies.
