Im looking for a Joystick~ Need Help ^^

i love playing fighting games

but since i was little i’ve always been playing with a PS or PS2 controller

and i don’t go to arcades often…so i bought a Hori stick but i was not used to it because it was an octagon so it was hard to do moves

is there any joysticks that are round??

and what company makes it?!

i live in Taiwan (if you dun’t know where it is it’s in asia…)

Octagon is pretty round already. Get a happ if you want completely round circles.

just get use the the octagon :). It’s not that bad.

HAPP what is that??

octagon is not round enough for me ^^

it really is that bad… im just not used to it

it’s just not as smooth…

i sold it already… i bought it 2nd hand

Happ= U.S Standard Arcade Parts.

www.happcontrols.com

surprised nobody was nice enough to provide the link.

I don’t think they have american (happ) parts in taiwan.

Really, it’s not that bad though, you haven’t used a square gate yet!

By the way, you’ll have a hard time finding a stick that doesn’t have a square or octagonal gate on it. Most sticks, except for american ones, have gates.

yeah, you’re best bet is to get good with a square gate.

Gate?

What is this gate you guys refer to when speaking about sticks? For ex: Do Happ competition sticks have a sort of gate and what kind?

aww…crap!

Square is just weird! Octagon is annoying enough!

i still dunno how im gonna play with a octagon or square stick…

but it’s true in asia mainly arcades use octagon or square…

is it possible that i but a brand new Hori and then change it from octagon o square to round?!?!

i don’t think i’ll be able to buy stuff online

im only 15…

in taiwan and you’re posting on an english forum? I’m impressed.

But anyways, I don’t think you want a happ, plus shipping that stuff to china will be REALLY expensive.

I think you have 3 options right now.

  1. find a stick that has a circular gate, might take a bit of searching, but you’ll find one.

  2. modify a square/octagonal gate to a circular. You can either buy a circular gate (although you might have trouble finding one if your buying low-ish quality sticks) or make one. Goodluck trying to make one.

  3. LEARN TO USE OCTAGONAL OR SQUARE! You’re not giving them enough of a chance. I grew up on a square gate. It took me about a week to get use to american sticks which are like the polar oposites to what I was using. Going from a circular to octagonal shouldn’t be very difficult. Just try it for a week, you’ll get use to it.

Oh, and your icon is disturbing :P.

Sanwa JLW has additional circle gate.
Bu for fighter games circle is weak. Better lear to play on square or octagon. After some practice (few years :D) will be never mind what gate you use.

don’t be impressed^^ im taiwanese but i moved to canada when i was about 1 year old i came back when i was 13~14 so my English is better then my Chinese haha!!

is it possible to make my own circular gate??
sounds hard…i’ve never even see whats inside a joystick= =
i did find a circular stick but…it’s looks very stupid…
buying joystick parts in taiwan is like impossible= =

this is the stick i was talking about

check out http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=108982 or PM ponyboy for arcade parts. I’m from Chile and I face the same problems you do when trying to find decent arcade parts. These are the only two ways I have to get them

I can give you a couple of ways:

  1. get a oct gate and a router or a file and file/sand it down to be a round gate is the best option for you right now since you can’t buy stuff online and asia does not have happs.

  2. you can try and find these to buy since you’re in asia,
    Sanwa JLW-TM-8 joystick
    Sanwa GT-0 gate

go here for reference. just look up the model number I just told you. http://www.akihabarashop.com/products.html

  1. buy an hrap (the special edition one) that has a seimitsu stick in it. I forgot which model and which stick is inside (someone help with the hrap model # and if you know which stick is inside) but if it’s anything like Seimitsu LS-32-01, you can take out the plastic square gate and it should give you a round gate since the metal piece holding it in is round.

i think the only way is to buy a octagonal and then sand it into a round one

is it easy? im scared im gonna screw it up= =

and is it possible to sand a square ?

by HRAP special edition do you mean the green and black one??

whats the difference between the sticks and buttons??? why do people need to change them?!

HRAP is very expensive i don’t think i can afford it…

is the Hori fighting stick 2 or 3 to crappy??

if i buy a HRAP do i have to mod it to make it good!?

sanding it down is a no no… its not actually a gate its more of a restrictor and when you sand it down you push more on the switches and they break off the pcb… plus at certain times you wont be able to block diagonals cuz it wont be touching two switches at the same time.
