When you guys speak of gates, do you mean the Actuator? Like the Square actuator on a Happ?
well the actuator on happs is square to hit 2 switches at once… the sanwa one is roundbut the switches are closer together…
its not really a gate but a restrictor… so like when you hit the edge of the square gate you hit the switch part of the switch but the knock is on the gate… so the switches dont get damaged and pushed back overtime… main reason american comp sticks die so fast in arcades is from the switches getting beaten up and pushed further apart.
No. Japanese sticks have gates that stop you from pushing the stick to far in one direction. In most cases its a stationary piece of plastic that is attached to the base of the stick itself but not the shaft. Part 95-0192-00 on happ stick serves the same purpose on happ controls.
I see. Thanks.
i still have some questions that need some answering ^^
whats the difference between the sticks and buttons???
why do people need to change them?!
HRAP is very expensive i don’t think i can afford it…
is the Hori fighting stick 2 or 3 to crappy??
if i buy a HRAP do i have to mod it to make it good!?
The sticks and buttons used in most Hori (and other arcade sticks) are proprietary and aren’t as precise or responsive as their genuine arcade counterparts. People change them to get the maximum performance out of thir arcade sticks.
I haven’t used a Hori fighting stick, but from what I gather from reading the forums, the fighting stick isnt as good as the HRAP.
A HRAP is pretty good out of the box for a casual player. If you want to become competative, or just desire the best experience possible, you should consider adding a new stick and buttons.
I have an old MAS (saturn/dreamcast combo) Thanks psychochronic and a couple of Hori Tekken 5 Tenth Anniversary sticks. I use the Tekken 5 stick on my PC and PS2 and MAS for DC. The tekken stick uses Hori parts and i can’t say I really find it to be significantly worse than my MAS stick, or anything I’ve used in the arcade. But I’m a scrub. WTF do I know?
but if was was going to switch out the buttons and stick whats the point in buying a HRAP what don’t i just go buy a crappy stick and then mod it?
isin’t that the same??
so your saying HRAP out of the box and MODDED HRAP are a lot different?!
the idea is to buy an arcade stick that will serve as a solid base as a modification project. (If you don’t plan to make one from scratch.)
As for a stock HRAP and a modded HRAP, I doubt “I” could tell the difference without a ton of scrutinization. Other people will be able to tell the subtleties and nuances of the buttons just by feel.
If your looking to save money, just buy a used HRAP and use it for a while. Un-modded. You’ll probably like it just fine.
Remember, the HRAP comes with a Sanwa joystick, it’s only the buttons you’d need to replace to get the “best experience possible”.
ohoh so if i buy a HRAP i only have to swith the buttons?
and what the different between the buttons?? could you tell me?
mabey i’ll buy a second hand HRAP and find somebody to help me mod the buttons cuz i dun have a lotta money…
I have an Agetec with pink Sanwa snap-ins and a Sanwa JLF in it and I plan to sell it. Although I wanted to put in the SFAC PCB in it, I kinda hesitated and just said “Maybe someone else wants this more than me.” I’ll sell both the PCB + stick, PM me an offer.
modding the annivers…
i bought the anniversary stick and just bought the parts off of happ.com my nest step is to visit www.arcadestickmonk.com and follow the instructions. i was advised by a friend to do so. good move? if not please explain.
ps. do u remember me psycochronic?
The Happ SFAC is okay. Although I tested it yet never tried to do the whole process but I’d like to try it…if I had the SFAC stick.
Who are you?
I haven’t used the HRAP buttons (because i don’t have my stick yet!) so i can’t compare, but i’d imagine most will say the Sanwa buttons will last longer and are more responsive to touch.
Buffi’s guide on putting Sanwa buttons in a HRAP (looks easy)
It is a GOOD move, and the mod is a lot easier to do than it looks in the guide! :wonder:
Just make sure you’ve got a good wire stripper for smaller wire, and have the right size quick disconnects(18-22 gauge .187).
While waiting for the parts you might as well get to work on it now. Be sure to write down the proper wire color locations to each button, while in the process of removing, stripping, and crimping on new disconnects that will fit the Happ pushbuttons.
Once you’ve redone the wiring a bit, it is just a matter of swapping out the parts with the new happs and plugging on the disconnects. Easy!

Oh for the love of god! Just learn how to use an octagonal gate!
NO WAY= = it’s impossible im just stupid
