I'm hotter than you!: Poison Match-up thread * Open for Discussion* (Updated: 8/28/2014)

That is very convenient and awesome for the setups.

Awesome stuff Tali.

Does that 50/50 stuff also work on characters with a 3 frame reversal?
Let’s say a Ryu player doesn’t DP on wake-up, could that backthrow setup work on them as well?

Apparently if you use EX Rekka with Poison (I don’t know about others as she is my first Rekka character but i think Fei’s are different) only the first input must be Multiple punches, the following ones could be QCB LP for example and it will still continue. Don’t know if it is old news but i stumbled on it by accident. I always used to QCB PPP, QCB PPP etc. but now i am just doing qcb PPP , qcb lp, qcb lp , qcb lp . It may not be a big deal but it is better for pad players like myself, because i don’t have to rekka with a shoulder button.

Sorry i thought this was the general discussion thread.

J.Lk is safe vs all of his DP and it hits as a crossup. It will beat a reversal LP DP but his M/H/EX will completely whiff.
J.HK will trade with LP DP which means free Ultra for him and his MP/HP/EX will beat you clean.

There is a risk vs reward in it for sure but since he can also delay wake-up, i think the odds are in his favor unless you just go for the LK version. My verdict is to not go for it or go with the J.LK version only.

instant j.lk that is safe from 3 frame reversals and hits front, it only looks like a cross up if they mash dp because it whiffs and u land on the other side because of their forward movement of the dp. It hits front on shotos, and j.hk hits front but gets beaten clean, so its not a 50/50.

but, after the backthrow if you take a tiny step forward and then jump forward, it hits cross up but isn’t dp safe if they do one late. If they mash it they will whiff because it was early, but a good player would time the dp and not mash it. So id say go for the instant j.lk, and punish any whiffed dp’s, then go for it again and see if he knows he has to respect it and block it front, then take the step forward and cross up once he respects it.

oh and oni’s dp’s beat that set up regardless, so remember, it is only both ryus, ken and akuma.

on guile you can back throw instant j.lk to hit front and whiff all flash kicks (ive posted this before), but now i figured out that if you take a step forward after the back throw and then j.lk, it can cross up and still whiff all the flash kicks. His only option out of the cross up is to dash forward. So you can get a 50/50 in a sense that is safe from reversals

So is Gouken a horrible match up or am I missing something? Can’t seem to do anything when he’s standing mid screen filling the place with fireballs.

Hello? Is this place dead?

I don’t like playing it mainly because it usually takes forever (assuming the gouken plays it correctly), you have to be really patient and slowly push him into the corner.

Look ahead in the thread. Gouken is indeed a bad matchup and sorry I’ve been MIA guys. Been busy with work and artwork.

Rekkas, immediate back dash, f.j.lk/f.j.hk
works on:
Decapre, Dudley, akuma, gen, sakura, juri, dhalsim, Abel, bison, sagat, cammy, Cody, rollento, guile, Rufus, elf, Vega, t.hawk, rose, yang,

Decapre: all stings whiff. You can also do j.hk instead of j.lk.

Dudley: dps are stuffed, ex dp whiffs. He can ex duck to get out. You can also do j.hk instead. Same results as j.lk.

Akuma: all dps whiff. It’s an only blockable though. Can’t hit if he’s blocking either way. J.hk will also make all dps whiff, hits front so if he blocks cross up he will be hit

Gen: both j.lk and j.hk hit front and cause his ex up kick to whiff. He can super the jump In.

Sakura: both j.lk and j.hk hit front and are safe vs everything. J.lk will make ex dp whiff and j.hk will block it.

Juri: both j.lk and j.hk hit front and make ex pinwheel whiff. She can do that ex counter thing to get out.

Dhalsim: j.lk is a cross up and safe from everything. Ex blast whiffs, u1 stuffed, super whiffs. He can teleport out, you can os u1 to catch his teleport, but the os is a bit awkward since it won’t auto correct your inputs so you have to do the u1 motion the other way anticipating the side swap because of the cross up jump. J.hk whiffs

Abel: use j.hk not j.lk. J.hk OS throw will beat everything. A ultra 1 gets blocked. Ultra 2 whiffs. Ex sky grab whiffs and os throw grabs him. Ex tornado throw gets thrown by our os throw. Ex roll gets thrown. He’s forced to block.

Bison: both j.lk and j.hk hit front and are safe against ex psycho crusher and ex scissor. His teleport and ex head press or ex devils reverse are a pain as he gets away.

Sagat: both j.lk and j.hk hit front. J.hk is the better option. Since sagat gets up slow, it’s not an immediate jump forward after the back dash. You wait 1 frame and then jump forward. This will safe jump his dp.

Cammy: both j.lk and j.hk hit front and cause cammys dp to whiff, so j.hk is the better option. You can os u1 to catch her, you probably have enough time to land and react u1 as well. You can also os a lp fireball.

Cody: both jump ins hit front and lose to u2 and EX CU. If he has no meter it’s a decent jump in to change it up from the neutral jump safe jump.

Rolento: both hit front. Lose to u2. He can go for an ex wall jump but you can air to air him.

Guile: j.lk makes all flash kicks whiff. Hits front. Safe from u2 and super. U1 gets only a hit. J.hk gets hit by flash kick.

Rufus: j.lk and j.hk hit front and are safe from ex messiah. You can walk forward a bit after the back dash and do a j.lk that is a cross up and still safe from an auto correct ex messiah.

El fuerte: both j.lk and j.hk and safe and hit front. He can ex run his way out.

Vega: j.hk hits front while j.lk get blocked both ways. Ultra 2 will beat both options.

T.hawk: both j.lk and j.hk hit front and are safe jumps. J.hk is the better option. If he has no meter or ultra 1, he has to block, if he has u1 it will punish the jump in. If he has a bar he can ex spd to beat the jump in. Ex dp is blocked.

Rose: j.lk and j.hk hit front and are entirely safe. Os sweep to catch a back dash. If you take a slight step forward after the back dash and do a j.lk it will be an ambiguous cross up and still safe from everything except a reversal ultra 2. The cross up will make ex spiral whiff so if you os a sweep you catch both the spiral or a dash.

Yang: j.lk hits front. Safe from lk dp (it whiffs or is stuffed but an air reset). Mk and hk are stuffed. Ex dp trades for 1 hit. He can ex teleport out but you can option select a throw to catch it.

im exausted, i feel like im the only one who grinds tech in the training mode and shares

anyways check out the cross up love me tender thread for a whole bunch i just posted.

BTW here is a set up for a meterless cross up LMT on bison and adon.

Rekkas, Immediate forward dash, n.j.hk (safe jump), cr.lk xx MK LMT

If the j.hk and follow up cr.lk are blocked, and the opponent attempts to crouch block the MK LMT, it will cross up, you can mash the follow up or combo afterwards quite easily since it hits a bit meaty.

Aww Tali we appreciate your hardwork from every single post you make!

I just started learning the character a few weeks back. So once I get my bearings with this character, I should be able to contribute more in all facets.

check out my updated match up thread i made, atm its over half way complete, ill finish it up in a little bit, But there is a whole bunch of new tech in there. I even found an unblockable jump in

oh and safe jump set ups into cross up LMT’s too and a new 5 frame safe jump set up + more

Indeed.

There is a lot of stuff to learn thanks to his efforts.

Defo appreciate it, pretty much my poison has improved alot cause of your tech, thanks for sharing it around  , I tried the dash back jump forward JHK or JLK today which works wonders, just another option to try instead of HP fireball sometimes to mix things up, am not so good at finding new stuff, but if I do Ill post it np.

I played against one of Vegas’s Rose players at casuals this past Friday (FT 10). The match-up is winnable but another pain (I deliberately picked Poison just to see what I can do).

I pretty much stuck to HP/EX Aeolus Edge with VERY few MP Aeolus Edge mixed in. I had to play it w/o being afraid of the absorb/redirected fireballs. It helped me to recognize each of Rose’s reflect animations (purple absorbs, green redirects back at you, blue redirects at an angle). If he did purple reflect and I did hp Aeolus Edge, I’d walk forward a bit and do standing heavy punch (sometimes it’d hit, sometimes it wouldn’t.) If Rose uses Reflect, you have a bit of time to walk forward and hit her. I was able to push said player to the corner doing this but very sporadically throughout the set. To counter this, he started using the green Reflect and if he had meter, he’d do Rose’s EX cloth drill thing (he was trying to wait until the fireball disapated and if I was walking forward, he’d do it. If not, he didn’t do it.). It was at this moment that I started mixing in EX Aeolus Edge and delaying my fireballs as he started using Reflect twice, sometimes three times in a row with the EX Cloth Drill mixed in (reflect more than EX Cloth Drill as I tried to stay out of range of it).

Using this tactic, I was able to force him to come to me. I was able to space HP Aeolus Edge so that even if he hit me w/ Rose’s slide, he’d eat the fireball. He’d get in and do Rose stuff (hop kick, to crouching lk, blah blah blah) but if you know it, its all about blocking correctly. I used EX KBG very sparingly. I’ll post more about it when I wake up. I won, 10-9.

I was wondering why i was getting rocked by yuns, and akuma’s.

Can anyone give my advice on the Gen matchup ? I am sorta unfamiliar with him but it seems really hard to play a zoning/anti-air game with him because of his annoying jump arc. I guess i should just study him as a character first but what is the best approach for this match ?
