Decapre’s reversal seems to get beat out by throws and strikes. Its kind of like rose’s old reversal. So I tend to bully her. I’m going to test more on decapre’s reversal to see if poison really can just run a freight train on her.
The only point for this thread is dedicated matchup notes. Guaranteed matchup stuff so what we can know what does and does not work. I will be updating the first posts in a day or two.
With rose you need to abuse your multi strengths of fireballs. I found that by doing this you bait out a lot of whiffed reflects which in turn gives you a straight meter advantage (I think?) If you play that mu in mid to full screen whilst changing up your fireballs and then do a few random pokes every now and then you’ll beat out st.HK from Rose i’ve found. The key really is to change the strengths of fireballs an awful lot though.
I’m going to call it right now…Guile is a nightmare for Poison. She has no chance to win the fireball war, and her jump is way too slow to react to booms. You have to make a risky guess. Even if you close the distance by walking forward and eating chip, Guile has the stronger footsies. I wouldn’t be surprised if this match ends up a 7-3 in Guile’s favor.
Nah take it from a Bison player that shit is nowhere near that bad. She can hang with Guile in the fireball game for sure. I see a lot of timeouts in that match though.
I’m telling you, the start-up on her fireball is too slow to hang in that match. It’s like a rose fireball but she doesn’t have reflect. The only viable fireball in this match is ex. You either have to jump or focus his boom otherwise you’re going to get hit.
I find that in the Guile match up you have to jab fireball then mix-up whether or not you want to dash behind the fireball. You literally have to tease your way in slowly and if you let him go then you’ve got to do all that hard work all over again. I agree with the time outs too. It’s literally catch the pigeon
ok so i’ve played about 40 matches against a guile today…
st.mk beats his cr.mk, cr.mp and sweep at max range
cr.mp at footsie range stuffs most sonic booms on startup
Love me tender is really good in this matchup, throwing it out when he has no down charge is great
Nice setup is throw, hp edge, love me tender… Beats flashkicks, ultra and most wakeup options
cr.hp is gold in this matchup as an anti-air
Plus poison cant beat guile in the fireball war
Just like avenge said, you have to mix up your fireballs. Use her heavy as a shield and walk forward a little, then throw a jab fireball and a few strong fireballs and repeat. Since poison gets meter faster than guile (I almost always find myself with 2 bars or more) you can throw ex to turn the fireball war in your favor for a bit. From there you can go in and bully guile.
Now for rose.
I played against her for a while and this is what I think poison can do effectively against rose. For fireballs, just mix up your strengths. Use her Heavy AE a lot to build meter and negate her fireballs while mixing them up with your other fireballs to make her mess up her reflect timing. If she starts sliding in or you know she will slide throw out a crouching jab so when you hit her, you can confirm into rekkas.
If she’s knocked down she really can’t do much. If you know she’ll back dash you can do a love me tender to catch her back dash and reset the situation. If she tries to ex spiral throw her. This really comes in handy when you get her in the corner because I really think she is unable to do anything against poison there because her defense seems a little worse in this game.
Maybe I’ve just been playing awful Guiles, but I’ve had no trouble going toe to toe with him in the fireball game.
Characters I’ve had the most trouble with so far have been Blanka and E. Ryu. Once Blanka realizes that you can’t really do shit to punish balls they go pretty ham. I try to zone E. Ryu, but have trouble against red fireballs.
Right now I’m having issues with Gouken, Yun, and Shotos.
I’ve been in the lab with some Yun Specific stuff and I’ll go ahead and post in to youtube pretty soon, and Evil Ryu is next.
Yun:
S.LP beats divekick from mid and lk KBG trades with divekick on pressure situations so you can always combo LP/MP rekkas after the trade for free damage.
Yuns Shoulder kills you midscreen and the palm is very problematic in the corner for the simple fact Poisons normals stick so far out and have so much range the phantom range on palm can literally punish you a characters distance away. You really have to space the proper fireballs he definitely has NO problem what so ever closing the gap and even more now with him have a crossup back and some super good buttons to press in whatever situation having to be in a defensive situation with him on top is no where near ideal. He’s on top of you and you’re fucking. I was having some strange luck with Cl.mp and Cl.roundhouse for some trades on his pressure and even beating him out on occasion but it’s highly unlikely they will ever PROPERLY win in that corner situation. I say getting life lead and bating him to how you want but using the proper punish.
Long range jump in S.RH
Short range jump in hope to god s.lp or dp knock him out of the air.
Off of a knockdown focus back-dash is your best option if you don’t want to have to deal with the mixup he has coming for you.
On your Offense:
Honestly you shouldn’t have an offense unless you’ve knocked him down and you have lifelead and you’re setting up a safejump setup because if he doesn’t do anything you get free throw or mixup opportunity. Before low and behold there will be a backdash or a DP in there coming somewhere. I’m trying to see if Poison has options to cover the blocked or whiffed DP from Yun so you can at least get a proper punish.
Good normals for this… C.Hp, S.lp , S.Rh ( sometimes), S.mk and s.lk.
Honestly, I feel like is about the same for the twins. Just seems that Yang is a bit more do-able then Yun but then again, this is just one person opinion. I want to see how others fair against the twins and see what others think. Though I’m pretty certain I’m hitting this right on the money.
EDIT Max Range EX shoulder can be stuffed by HP AE
cr. LP, cr. LP, st. MK xx EX WoL, immediate j. HP does 227 damage and 350 stun into a high-low mixup.
cr. LP, cr. LP, st. MK xx EX WoL, HP WoL does 227 damage and 320 stun into a hard knockdown.
Same damage, less stun, corner carry’s not greatly improved. Meter gain is not a whole lot. And to add to this, HP WoL needs practice to time correctly.
Seems like a lot of trouble to go to for a character-specific combo. I don’t even think I like this in the corner.
Yeah I agree. You can’t win the fireball war against Gouken, he has the fastest fireball in the game after all. He can even out fireball guile…
Basically I just turtle a shit load, get a knockdown and mix up empty grab/safe jump, being mindful when he has meter to watch for ex tatsu and ex demon flip. That match is dumb but not as dumb as sagat, dhalsim. Guile might not be too bad because of the health nerf.
and BARF i’ve never seen cr.hp beat yun’s dive kick once. there isn’t enough words to describe how fucking retarded that match is/character. completely brain dead dive kick that will beat most of your anti air options unless you buffer kbg that will trade at best, into a red focus combo that takes off 40% of your life which leads to another mixup that probably is equal to stun. I got 2 words for this matchup. COUNTER PICK.
