I’m on the camp that thinks that Boxer vs. Blanka is crazy tough if the Boxer player knows what he or she is doing, while Deejay vs. Blanka is crazy difficult even if the Deejay player is average. I know that because I’ve played Deejay against Blanka players, my Deejay sucks, and I still cause problems.
has anyone ever messed around with cr.mk xx super? the initial hit launches now and with some good timing you can get all the hits.
It’s a pretty useless combo but kinda fun.
I think both are slightly better.
DJ can’t punish your rolls with maxouts anymore, but you are not rolling on DJ often anyway, and that’s it.
Balrog can punish your rolls only when he has charge. You can punish blocked jab headbutt and his super does less damage.
Well, very slightly better, near imperceptible.
How do i go about countering Kens lp.srk’s? (i iz bad at sf lingo)
It has so much range and the recovery is too quick for me to get in close, especially when they spam it.
Spamming Ken’s j. lp SRK is the singe most common lag tactic I can think of. The recovery once he hits the ground is very fast, so don’t bother trying to punish the recovery.
If you take a look at the Yoga Book Hyper scans, which are linked a few posts up, you can see that on Blanka’s s.LK, his entire leg is invulnerable.
One tactic, that I think Mixah talks about earlier in this thread, is to do a s.lk just out of Ken’s range, so that the SRK goes through Blanka’s leg. If you pause slightly and then do a c.HP you should knock him out of the air.
You basically have to hit the punch button when he’s at the top of the SRK to knock him out of the air on his way down.
I like it
vs lp online srk spam, just prepare yourself for the inevitable 2nd srk and punish that one. Make him land on a slide.
and st.lk is a great bait.
This is actually good advice. Whenever I’m fighting a Ken that has pretty much no lag and I’m messing around with Blanka, I’ll usually walk-up and Bite if he misses the first DP (though I wouldn’t recommend this for beginners. It takes practice).
Here is something I’ve always wondered…
Which characters do you feel confident fighting against no matter who plays them?
For instance, whenever I play any Zangief, T-Hawk, Ken, Ryu, Guile, Bison, Cammy and Sagat players I feel pretty confident that I will get the win if I’m at 100%. Meaning my arcade stick is fully functioning and I actually have time to play.
So do any other Blanka players have a set list of characters they they feel like they can beat more often than not?
Just curious.
We need to play more often. :nunchuck:
Fei Long
and a scrubby question… (im new at SF hahaha)
how to I hop into a blanka ball?
Assuming you mean a forward hop then use df to hop so you keep your down charge. Then you can vertical ball afterwards.
Sure thing but let me clarify a bit on the character thing…
I feel most comfortable in the matchups mentioned because I feel Blanka has enough tools and options to win those matchups. Some, convincingly. Like vs Zangief and T-Hawk. Blanka can shut those characters down almost how DeeJay can shut Blanka down.
Sure, I’ve played many of Blanka’s bad matchups and still won more than my fair share vs decent players but that had more to do with my experience in the matches and a bit of luck on my part. Whenever I play someone who plays say Boxer or DeeJay for instance and they are on the level of an Afro or BruceLB, I will lose more often than win.
Bad matchup + top player = loss or rare win for me
But I think you’re alot like me Jiggly. You’re stubborn to the fact that your character has bad matchups. You probably feel you can fight anyone with your main and win lol.
Even though I KNOW they’re in Blanka’s favor, Gief and Hawk never feel completely free, since 1 mistake and the match can be over.
If played perfectly, then its a cakewalk. But those matches make me sweat more than any other, because I know if I screw up once against a good player its game over.
On the flip side they can throw themselves at me all day trying to get in and only take minimal damage for the most part.
Just a scrub’s perspective.
I have thought the same for a while. I play both Zangief and Blanka, and I always favour Gief regardless of which one I’m using. Blanka has all the tools to make the match-up quite strongly in his favour but a good spacing and good reaction times are needed.
For example, most Blanka players knows s.mp shuts out all of Gief’s jumping options but I get to jump in quite a bit with Gief since if they aren’t anticipating it, they usually can’t react in time with a s.mp.
For advice or to watch Blanka own then I suggest asking Empirion. He’s the only Blanka (I’ve played) with a good record against my Zangief and shuts me down completely.
That’s exactly how I feel. One mistake can hurt oh so much which is what scares me.
I need some help with timing the reversal up ball. I feel like I’m doing it right but often eat tick throw shenanigens/meaty combo. Am I just losing to online lag…what visual clue am I looking for to know that I’m going to hit that reversal frame? Is there a way to practice this? Should I just be going for the back hop instead?
Every normal tick has a different recovery, and good players will constantly change the normal move that they use, and in some cases the amount of times that they do it. (See Zangief c.Jab into SDP vs s.Short vs s.Forward…) If they’re doing this to you in the middle of the level, then you can backhop out.
If you’re in the corner you’ve got real problems. You need to guess when to reversal.
Try: pianoing the buttons to help hit that reversal window. (You can do this with a pad or stick, BTW.)
There is no easy answer to this. You’ve really got to just play against good Hawks and Giefs to get a feel for the timing. Even then, its very difficult to reversal the ticks with any level of success. You’re best bet is to not get put in that situation in the first place. Easier said than done, I know.
So we have had quite a bit of discussion over this matchup in the Vega thread but since this thread is currently on the topic of matchups how do Blanka players feel about the Vega matchup from their perspective ?
It sucks.
Then again, so do I.
Ball beats slide and trades with roll, c.Mp can trade with Claw’s c.Mp. Claw can’t walldive, and Blanka can’t jump in if both players are sober.
Claw can sit back and turtle up pretty effectively. Roll into bite/electricity mix-up is the biggest thing that Blanka has going for him.
I’m interested to hear what good players think about this match-up in HDR.
