Please discuss details. It’ll be easier for people to help you out. For example, was there a specific pattern or situation that seemed to trouble you?
In any case, try to learn to punish random SRKs. Some players love to abuse random SRK with Ken since his recover is so good.
I find that Blanka is one of my easier match ups with Ken. I feel like all I have to do is keep Blanka at 3/4 of the screen away and I feel like I can zone out with fireballs and SRKs. I’m not really sure what I do if Blanka is close, probably a lot of SRKs. Would you mind commenting on how to get around zoning for Blanka? That might help out a little.
s.lk is invincible. you can bait dps with it and get free sweeps then crossups. The throw loops don’t work because blanka’s throw range is much higher than ken’s. his hadoken animation is long, and except for full screen, i get free j.hk’s if i see a hado coming (this isn’t so for ryu as often), your jump ins get beat by my s.mp (ryu’s roundhouse doesn’t), and hurricane loses to up balls (whereas ryu’s will usually trade).
Unless the player is a better player than me, it’s not really a difficult fight for any semi-experienced Blanka.
I’ll always say that Blanka’s hardest fight is DJ, followed by Sim, Boxer, and Chun.
yeah, I just tested it. dash super works anywhere in classic. It’s easier than chun’s kikoken super.
did you know that you can use your trick to hit frontside too? if you wait a moment for the falling feet to stop the ball you can do whiff ball landing facing the corner then super to keep them in the corner
Thanks a lot, Man. Your experience is greatly appreciated. I think I’ll try picking up Blanka since he seems like an interesting character.
Edit: I played a bit today and it seemed 75% of the time I tried to punish with Blanka cr. hk Ken’s jab DP he would just block it. Is it supposed to be tight timing? Or is it just harder online?
low fierce is much easier to time (snice you can do it earlier)
further remember you can only punish it on whiff.
just gotta be looking for it and react faster.
my problem is that I react so early to the animation with df+HP slide (cause it’s super meaty and therefore very lenient on timing) that if the opponent does a stronger version of the move, the slide will whiff and he’ll probably land safely.
That comment reminded me of a bad match I had a few days ago. I was playing Honda vs. Blanka. Blanka kept doing j. lk bites over and over on me. I couldn’t manage to reversal lp headbutt once. I should probably try butt flop instead of just lp headbutt next time.
LOL, was it me? That move beats everything. Two ways to get out.
HP thousand hands and jump forward, taking a hit, but you’ll get out of it.
take 2 hits and butt flop. Problem, don’t lose track of this because you’ll get bitten.
I hope it wasn’t you. My network DCed after the second match and he ended up accusing me of rage quitting (understandable). I tried explaining the situation (my mistake I should have just left it at the first message), but then I just got labeled as a sore loser.
Are there any tips on how to fight Honda in this thread? I’ve found that jumping lk and hk (stuffs butt flops and headbutts) mixing up cr. hk and throw beat a lot of the Hondas that I play against, but are there other things I should be worried about?
Don’t be worried about it. Gimmicks will knock out almost every Honda out there. You have it down.
s.lk (I know, I refer to this a LOT) will knock him out of headbutts, so if you’re playing silly and jump back lk a lot, mix it up with s.lk and their timing to headbut you will be fucked up. BE CAREFUL OF OCHIO…
I’ve gotten lazy lately so decided to start working on my Blanka a little and try new things.
One question for the good players, how do you deal with certain characters that charge down-back all day? I have problems with DJ, Claw, Boxer and sometimes Honda and Guile. I have less problem with Honda and Guile but even they can be annoying to get in at times.
This next part is copied from my post in the Vega forums. 'Anyway I remember reading a while ago that Blanka did pretty well against Claw but I have absolutely no idea why when I can’t get near him. It seems all he has to do is charge down and back. Sure the occassional jab/strong roll into bite works but I find it hard to press the advantage without Claw pulling out a reversal and getting out of harm’s way.
So any advice for Blanka?’
As for DJ, his normals pretty much stuff any attempt to get in from the ground. Horizontal ball can be punished by a well time Max-out? Of course if I jump in I get his up-kicks as punishment.
My advice would be to roll into bite, short ball/rainbow roll to bait a move, avoid jumping towards them and use hop a lot to keep up the pressure and stay close to them. In the end though, Vega, Boxer and Deejay are some of his hardest matchups.
