I’m curious to see what other peoples strategies are against Balrog (boxer) in the blanka match up. I know my game plan and its pretty effective, even against players like afro or graham. Just trying to see if any1 can enlighten me with new things???

My strategy is to knockdown with slide or sweep, hop forward immediately, and go for the cross up…that’s pretty much all I’ve got. I’d really like to hear the strategies that you OG’s use cause I’m at a fucking loss on what to do against a good rog.

Oh, the other strategy I use is to go to the kitchen and crack a beer while I’m caught in endless headbutt mix-ups. Might not work too well in a tourney…

Ha all those sound like good tactics, but nothing new I have heard yet. What do you do with a turtling Rog, where its almost impossible to trip him and he presses down fierce punch when you jump in?

s.lk will knock him out of most of his rushdown and is a safe poke if he headbutts. if he’s turtling, seriously, trap him with s.lk and s.mp. If he starts to feel uneasy, hop in and bite his fucking head off.

If he knows how to get around this strategy, chances are there is no gimmick that will work for you. You just need to outplay him.

I know it’s generally bad advice, but I’m not afraid to roll against Balrog. I know that he can punish it on block, but sometimes just knowing that I’m not afraid to take that risk (especially before leading on life) is enough to force a Balrog into the turtling situation. Then I’ll stop rolling, alternate low attacks, or (as Mixah suggests) you could go into the s.lk/s.mp/biting mindgames.

He can punish a ball without a charge… so that’s not good…

s.mp is also a good whiff to go into bites. :slight_smile:

I just don’t like throwing away rounds for no reason. If they know you ball a lot, a good rog wont turtle. They’ll walk up c.mp all day, and there’s nothing you can do to get around it. Even though s.lk has the invincible legs, you will get hit via trade.

I am going to agree with Mixah on this. I actually try to avoid doing balls as much as possible even as a counter attack because he can always hit you and trip you and gain the advantage really quickly. The only time I do balls is when I am coming two medium kicks or something like that because i am looking for a stun, otherwise I am trying to stop myself from doing fierce balls at all cost. I still throw in some whiff balls of course but that doesn’t work as well with the high levels rogs who are constantly jabbing or crouching medium punching.
I also do a light ball to fierce kick trip often cuz its unexpected but also become really easy to catch on

I do this, or follow up with a hop back > baiting a rog dash.

hop back, if they’re not expecting it through the punch, and USE THOSE INVINCIBLE FRAMES!
You hop back and bite.

Can Hop Forward be cut off into Horizontal Ball?

I can do Hop Forward into Super or V Ball, but not H Ball. At 7:52 of [media=youtube]5A7S7ST7nlY"[/media] it looks like H Ball but I guess it could be a V Ball too.

that’s a vertical ball.

you could tell from the rebound, how high he goes.

and Blitzfu, I’m pretty sure you can’t hop forward at h.ball. I don’t know about HD, but I know in HD, you can definitely go lp h.ball, and then super… but yeah…

that’s way different from forward dash horizontal ball. there’s no charge overlap there to make it work.

nah, it’s a thing in HDR that lets you lp ball forward and then do super.

the trick in OG ST is this.

I’m on P1 side and near the P2 corner. I sweep my opponent and charge :db:.

I hit :r:+:hp: and hold the :r:, then when I crossup, I hit :l:+:p: and I get the super.
