on a different note, in response to the damneds WOT up there… a balanced game isnt necessarily boring. its HOW a game is balanced that makes it boring… or not. perfect balance is impossible, but that doesnt mean that it shouldnt be strived for… its kind of like saying that perfect play isnt possible (it most certainly isnt possible, even if you perfect daigo you probably made some mistakes along the way AND you still have to continue to perfect every player you ever face)
so why go into training mode and practice combos to make yourself better when perfect play isnt available. of course it isnt but you can always IMPROVE. and thats where balance IMPROVEMENTS come into play.
seriously i get tired of the “perfect balance isnt accomplishable” argument, sim[ly cause no one is stating that a game needs to be perfectly balanced… just that certain games could do for BETTER balancing. so that catastrophies like mvc3 chun hsien ko and shuma arent a mainstay.
i like balanced games more than broken ones. and yes i think XF can be in a relatively balanced game. and i also think chun hsien and shuma could run mvc3 had they been designed to. the characters dont suck… thats impossible, there movelists suck and thats the faults of the shitty dev team not doin g there fucking jobs…
way to alienate chun etc players while making wesker etc lovers all of a sudden seem as if they are actually good.

They’re already nerfing her in Ultimate and Good team won an hour ago.
Phoenix is just something they tried to do something different and it came out a bit too good…oh well they tried something different. Capcom is giving you every incentive to beat her now in Ultimate. Step it up when Ultimate comes out or just play Skullgirls (I’ll be playing Skullgirls too).

Fuck balance…just make a game where the mid tiers aren’t shit and the mechanics aren’t geared towards not being able to put people in bad situations or do any real damage (NOT LIKE SFIV).
Tiers shouldn’t matter as long as you have the skills to counter what your opponents do. Picking top tier teams doesn’t always mean victory if it isn’t the team you are used to playing with. Stop complaining about this, pick a team you like and learn how the characters work together that way it won’t matter who the other person is playing because you will be prepared for them. If you want to play top tier characters or low tier characters it doesn’t matter find a team you like and master how to use it simple as that. Why do people have to hate on certain characters or the people that pick them it sounds so childish to do so.
Watch his interviews, watch his money match pop-offs, watch people pop off when they beat him in money matches, etc etc.
He might possibly be the saltiest non-terrorist on the planet and proof that there’s no limit to how much salt one body can contain.

but a “game where the midtiers dont suck” is basically a well balanced one. so i think we are in agreement. its just that you seem to (wrongly) think that balance = homogenization, when it certainly doesnt. you can have tods and near impossible to block mixups and a deep neutral game in a balanced game… it just hasnt happened yet cause it hasnt even been tried by a dev team that knows what its doing.
its kind of like you can have a character that can kill an entire team off of one combo… and yet he still isnt in the top tier (mvc2 ironman)

I’m not saying Homogenization is the only way, I’m just saying that’s the easier way. The problem is SFIV tries to make a game where the characters are different but they all just have a bunch of different shitty shit. Their shit needs to be more powerful and the rewards should be greater for making good moves off smart shit (not just shoryu FADC blah blah).

i just think its high time devs actually start trying to do “the harder thing” capcom has been flowcharting out fighting games since 3s. personally i’d like them to aim a little higher. i blame the stupid execs in control. a smarter versus game that actually has a FULL compliment of robust tutorial, deep training mode options like hitbox viewers, frame counters ala vf5 and better recording mode also like vf5 is something that should be strived for… not this flowchart faggotry casual user friendly (nothing wrong with casual friendly as long as it isnt the main design spec) lack of tournament modes/button configurements/bad online spew that capcom is making nowadays.

They need to make them more like the way Mike Z makes them.
ima try to go HARD on SG… i just REALLY dont like the character design… sigh. fucking loli fighters. ill buy it and try my best to find a character that resonates… but it hasnt happened yet. capcom still knows how to deliver the best boring characters that actually seem interesting (ala nova) if only sg had have had something cool not random… like fighters history. playing fighters like a roman centurion versus a s.e.a.l. versus an african zulu warrior vs some guy from the year 3000 versus some chick from the amazon would have been dope and would have made for a great storyline since the characters wouldnt have to have actual canon in concurrence with each other… story would be easy and amazing, yet players would be able to get into there respective characters…
still mike and team are going about designing there game mechanics the right way. and thats the biggest thing BY FAR.
on topic: ive never hated on viscant for using phoenix… hes probably one of the only “tier whores” ive had respect for since he was using that team from the start when no one knew whether or not she would end up being broke… i respect innovators and originators and dislike copycats. thats isnt to say that ive never copied people… i most certainly have. i just dont think im great when doing it.

Hey I dealt with those nasty looking SFIV characters (Ryu looks like he’s on the juice and his gi is too tight) so you gotta try.
I knew Dark Phoenix was gonna be broken from before the game came out when my friend got a bootleg copy. I just didn’t realize at the time how easy mode it is to build 5 meters in this game. Still…Viscant found a way to make a team that didn’t get blown up by Wolverine while still fitting Phoenix in there which is a strong achievement in itself.

yeah, i knew phoenix would be op as well… but then again i thought EVERY character would be broken to some degree so i didnt think it would matter so much… i mean when the game first came out we had pre-patch sent, million move +easy as hell first day marn combo into lvl1 xf tod with dante, wolverine going gangster with slashs… buktooth killing niggas with chuns loop… wesker with the highest hp of a character that was THAT fast.
phoenix in the middle of it all just kinda seemed like “well maybe she will be truly broken… or maybe not” LOL

Again, this is arguable–I agree Zero, Wolverine and a few others are more broken, which is why it’s surprising I don’t see Zero as much.
Even if I agreed, it’s already being changed in Ultimate and yet I know those particular people are still going to bitch. So, yeah, it just seems like a fruitless discussion to be trying to get into at this point even if you and I don’t actually disagree on that much.
Again, “balanced” doesn’t automatically equal “made well”, at least when it comes to how you’re defining both. (Not you personally, I mean “you” generally; damn English language and it’s nebulous “you”.)
This I can’t agree with at all. I must rather her be nerfed/changed appropriately, which UMvC3 is at least trying to get at even if I don’t agree with all their changes of her (yet), rather than just be nerfed into the ground and utterly unusable just because people don’t like her. No reason to waste a character slot that’s in the game if you aren’t going to outright place her, which isn’t going to happen; this game doesn’t need another Chun-li or Hsien-ko, thanks.
Again, arguable, especially depending on the type of game we’re talking about. I actually agree that games should be fun, even at a competitive level (since otherwise, why are you playing that particular game over another, money aside), but saying it the you did and as an ending point just makes/made you look like an asshole, sorry.

DarkPrince wasnt really salty himself, he was more of fighting game’s biggest and best troll. He made everyone so mad and he wasn’t that good. He basically tried to do what neo did, which is come out of nowwhere late into MvC2’s life and MM and beat every top player to build a name for himself, but he did so by running his mouth, and he didnt win.
