If you are having problems with PSN connectivity, read this thread (openDNS)

Update on my situation. I am now at 1% down from 8% because of this fix!

Yea, generally online seems better for me too since trying these settings… (Replays seem to work properly now)
Also my pc internet connection is a tad quicker
Thanks

  • btw - I’m not using time warner shin ryu.

I’ve been having issues connecting to the PSN recently with DNS errors and I’ve just recently started using OpenDNS to hopefully solve this problem.

While it seems like I can connect to the PSN regularly now, I’ve been having more disconnects than usual with HDR. I do have Time Warner as my ISP, too.

dbostick go here check that smart cache and dynamic update are on.
I believe these should help

Thank you, I didn’t have smart cache on but I really haven’t had any problems with the PSN since using OpenDNS, save for one disconnect in HD Remix; it’s on now, though.

I’ve also noticed a faster connection as well, which is always welcome.

I too am now at 1% because of this issue. Let me explain my setup for you people.

I currently have a wireless network in my house with a MAC ADDRESS lock. I didn’t feel that I wanted to add my PS3’s Mac to the list, so what I did was grab a crossover cable and run it from my PC to my PS3 to use internet sharing! (It emulates having a hardwired connection perfectly, even though my PC is wireless).

So when I originally did the fix, I thought I should change my PC’s DNS to the openDNS, which did help alittle, but after while it started happening again.

So what I did then was change my PS3s dns to it too, and now it’s smooth sailing

Down to 1% from 15%

It works for me. I suggest everybody to config your PS3 manually and set the DNS there as well. I did both for my router and my PS3… no problem so far.

If you guys are experiencing any slowdown after matches or at random times offline (like selecting arcade mode), you might want to delete your install data in the game files.

I noticed after downloading the CE update, suddenly it would take forever for certain parts of the game to load. I usually just play arcade mode and have the game find matches for me (which is fantastic, btw). After winning/losing it would take like 30 seconds sometimes for it to ask me “go back to arcade mode/go to main (orwhatever)”

I believe I’ve read this has something to do with watching online replays. And since I’m also on timewarner here in socal, my SF4 online experience was becoming nerve racking to say the least. I had the point glitch happen once (I don’t play TOO often, or for long stretches, so once is enough) and random disconnects were becoming more frequent for seemingly no reason, since online was smooth sailing the first weeks of owning the game.

Anyways, I deleted the game data (not game save data), reinstalled the update and the game data, and also did this openDNS business, and things have been solid so far. It was made crystal clear that it works because I was trying to DL the update again, but the download would stop randomly each time I tried, and I tried like 7 times. Then I did the open DNS thing and it downloaded fast as hell the first try.

It probably won’t do much for anyone that has a decent connection that they want to improve just for the helluvit.

I had the GP loss bug too, and it seems like the problem is fixed so far. Thanks

I had the same problem not being able to play online.
Thanks to this thread my problem was fix

fixed disconnect issues for me

disconnects were random, and had no relation to latency

never lost gp though

I still get random disconnected on using open dns. Its about the same dc rate when compared to using fios dns server.

Fios DNS: 9 to 10ms
Open DNS: 10ms

so is this heresay or what? Does openDNS actually fix the bug 100%, it’s disgusting and it’s happening to me and I have optimum online in NY.

It’s worth a shot. It may or may not work for you. Just have to try it out and see. It most likely won’t be any worse.

Didn’t fix it for me, still getting the ‘previous … did not finish’ and my DC rate is climbing…Very frustrating. Is there any other fixes I can try?

this is NOT a fix.

I still have the problems too…and some times I’d get dropped out of the game, caused some of my opponents whom were winning at the time to think I’m a plug-puller. And I’ve been using OpenDNS since day one.

Well, I did this about a week after championship mode came out (my disconnect rate was getting to about 5%) and since then I can’t remember the last time the connection loss was my fault.

I also live in So-cal and have TW cable btw.

After I updated PS3 firmware to 3.0 ,my PSN in SF4 disconnected all the time. :annoy:

But it works perfectly without any disconnection after I use openDNS ,good job !!!:lovin:

Should this fix the disconnects in between rounds too that happen all the time during ranked and player matches?

Using openDNS doesn’t seem to solve that problem :S As far as I can tell from 2 disconnects in 5 matches
