Quick question, is there any drawback to using OpenDNS’s DNS? Is it secure, or is my network more exposed?

ok i to have time warner and this infact has fixed the problem. Though it seems like my latency has gone up a bit but only time will tell if its consistantly like this. what i dont get is i only experienced this problem after i dled the sf4 patch.
opendns is awesome. I use them exclusively for all of my network devices. you can change by going in to the control panel and selecting the properties of the network adapter, then click on internet protocol version 4, then click on properties. when the window comes up check use the following dns server addresses and add the opendns info. You can also go to www.opendns.com and setup an account and manage your own network.
you can also set this up directly in your router if you connect with mulitiple devices and want all of the them to use opendns. (this is what I do and it improves web surfing by about 30%)
After using openDNS I have been getting a lot more “Unable to Play” messages. More than before. Anyone else experiencing this?
Is it necessary to make an account to use the opendns?

Yesterday I got the Tournament failed message and lost like 1000GP. So I don’t think this fixes the bug completely. It helps though.
I’ll add that this has fixed the bug for me too and I’m in the UK where the ping is averaging 35ms which should be fine (I think they have a server in London). I’m gutted I’ve got a DC % even though I’ve never quit a game when all this time there was a simple fix :crybaby:.

this has completely fixed the bug for me and trust me i had it really really bad. I wasnt able to play ce mode for two weeks up untill i read this thread. What was once 9 percent dc went down to 2% dc in 2 days. THANK YOU AGAIN!

It works, but it does make games laggy. I turned it off and put it back on automatic.

i keep gettin’ disconnected, and i have nothing to show for it but a constantly rising disconnect percentage… ARGH
Anyone else find the new system update (version 2.76) has stopped the bug? Touch wood I was getting the bug everyday, but since the update (on wednesday) I haven’t had it happen once 
Also, why would other games not be affected by the DNS settings? Surely this means the problem lies with capcom’s netcode NOT DNS settings which work fine for all other games? And finally, we all have different ISP’s in different countries, so ALL our ISP’s domain name servers can’t be screwed, surely?
Nope you are wrong I was still having problems even after the update and not only with capcom games (mkvsdc, mkII, FIFA) I’ve actually have had this problem for a couple of years when I switch to TW. OpenDNS is a life and money saver for me since Im on my third N Router since a lot of people told me my router was the problem.

This defintely works for me. My DC ratio went from 8 to 5% so far.
Somewhere on this forum someone posted that this is a common problem to wirelessly connected PS3’s. I switched to wired, and so far no problems. The thing is, I only did this yesterday, so I gotta give it time to see if the problem will really go away.
Besides, I decided to buy a static IP dedicated to my PS only, as opposed to having one real IP serving all my home and every device on my home network has a dynamic IP.

I have been quite annoyed recently.
Not only have I had numerous problems with Sf4 since the CE update, but upon updating to 2.76 FW my save data for Uncharted Drakes Fortune has disappeared ?! - It shows up in XMB… but when I start the game, no saves are found. 
Tried Copying the save to another profile (and back again) and still no beans with either…
Gonna try this trick now and Hope it helps with me playing SF4 online.
If not its back to GGPO for me and I’m gonna start saving some money for an xbox360
- Other thoughts - Sony should properly test out firmware revisions before forcing them onto us !
Something weird with this shit.
It worked fine for three days, and now suddenly I’m getting the error left and right again, ALSO my DC% NEVER went down, I played atleast 100 matches without a DC and it NOT ONCE went down, I got the error just now and the fucking thing is up to 9% now! ONE MATCH CONSTITUTED FOR A WHOLE FUCKING PERCENT?!

Did you change your DNS settings to OpenDNS? I’m curious to see if this has any discernible effects.
