If They Ask Where You Went...Say Skyrim

VATS is hot garbage. Disabling that shit was the first thing I did. I like bullet time a lot more since it doesn’t actually halt the game to a complete stop.

Nope. Replaces all spiders with bears. Which looks hilarious.

First time playing Fallout 3? Yeah, VATS sucks. But the FPS is weird too because bullet hit when they’re not supposed to. Or something. It doesn’t feel right.

Fallout 3 has the weird morrowind thing going on that since it uses weapon accuracy and weapon skill to see if you hit or not (and maybe weapon condition as well? I know weapon condition also determines damage and chance of the weapon getting jammed in FWE), projectiles will go through shit a lot. Add weapon swaying to the mix (from low weapon skill and/or crippled limbs) and sometimes shit just goes dumb.

Like I said, bullet time is where it’s at. Activate bullet time, it drains your AP while in bullet time, you can still get attacked and if you get hit will still take full damage (pretty sure damage received during VATS in FO3 is drastically reduced) yet still allows you to do all sorts of great locational damage. Mysterious Stranger perk becomes useless though since it doesn’t get triggered (not that I ever needed it).

Oh, whoops, I didn’t realize you were responding to maziodyne. I feel stupids now.

Okay, that’s what I was thinking of with the projectiles. Bullet time it is.

Yes I was, it’s cool though, this is a discussion forum and not a private session.

Bullet time is only for PC though via mods. Console peasants are stuck with VATS :-p

Also, Gauss Rifle, why are you so good? WHY ARE YOU SO FUCKING GOOD?! (Only available to PC users, seriously why is this SOOOO GOOD?)

On Skyrim : I’ve got nothing. I do wish that I had a gauss bow though, shit would be amazing.

Heh, no worries then.

Yeah, my friend’s house/PC was all of my FO3 time. Mods ahoy! The Nexus pumps out some crazy stuff. I need to look back over there again.

Hey there guys.
I’m thinking about getting Skyrim since I see a lot of hype for it but I’ve never played any Elder Scrolls games. Would I be able to just jump into it or is there a bunch of shit I need to know about? Also, is the storyline linear or is it kinda like GTA where it’s basically like a sandbox type of game?
The latest RPG I’ve played is Final Fantasy XIII and that was pretty all right, would Skyrim be similar to Final Fantasy or is it totally different?

Anyone willing to share their experience with magic?

The stunlock perk for dual wielding renders most destruction magic completely useless in my opinion. I’ve been using dual wielding firebolt(the level 2 fireball) the majority of the game, since it stun locks enemies, even dragons, and i don’t run out of mana. i don’t even understand the point of using the other spells since i’m out of mana after a few casts, and if there is a group of enemies, i just use relentless shout and stunlock them one by one.

Also, i hope they patch in an option to turn friendly fire off. Can’t even cast a damn spell without my follower turning on me.

Skyrim is just like Final Fantasy except you can do ANYTHING.

Friendly Fire is part of the game, Msphere. It’s supposed to be part of the tactical fighting, not hitting your allies/bystanders. But if you don’t like it, by all means turn it off.

So a patch to fix the new patch comes out next week, lol.

Good news is, the Construction Kit comes out in January. The floodgates ore opening!

Huh, the steam workshop thing is… very interesting.

I’m all for patches, but that blog post makes it sound like they’ll be rolling one out every couple weeks. They really should just come out and say you guys aren’t only customers but beta testers as well. I ain’t even mad. I’d respect the honesty.

Honestly, I’m OK with constant patching as long as it doesn’t break stuff. The thing with Bethesda games is that even after multiple patches there is still so much stuff that needs patching that the patch itself is basically it’s own little game.

I would like to see more developers push out proper patches more frequently to be honest (or at least on a consistent schedule, with bugs fixed by severity). Yes, it is a pain in the ass having to wait for the download to finish and then to patch but that at least gives off the impression that they are working to make the game better rather than leaving the gamea s it is.

I think that it’s fine calling all games betas (or at least release candidates) regardless of level of polish (though they should always aim for a very high level of polish rather than not and should be called out for releasing unpolished turds). Having the game played by millions of people rather than just your small (in comparison) team is just better if you want to polish the game and find bugs. Software goes through this a lot and I think that the term beta gets too much negative flak around here (with good reason, fucking Capcom…). Though we shouldn’t really accept or pay top dollar for stuff that is clearly not complete or polished to that level but that is a decision that each individual must make.

The part that I like about the Steam Workshop is that they are trying to get mods on consoles (which is something they mentioned when they first announced Skyrim). The PS3 version of UT3 has mod support, and the PS3 is also the console that happens to have Steamworks. Hopefully by the release of the PS4 there is a strong infrastructure in place that let’s PS users use mods for Bethesda games. Microsoft would never let this fly, unfortunately but I sure as hell hope I am wrong.

Damn, farmed up my destruction skill on Vilkas and now not only will he not stop harrasing me, he doesn’t allow me to start finish Purity of Revenge since Vilkas couldnt follow up the quest by asking me where I was and to visit his funeral. Oh and worse off, I’m lagging badly every 2 minutes. The game just stops for some 30 seconds be continuing and the loading screen takes at least 3.5 times longer to load.

Lessons to learn kids: DO NOT FARM UR MAGIC ON VILKAS

I didn’t have a previous save and there was no surprise additional bounty that I have to pay off to get him off me. If anyone has any idea what to do please tell me. I don’t think Bethesda is gonna patch this. FML.

Damn…not played this ina couple days, so new patch = bad then? Xbox if that makes any difference.

Bethesda said they’re gna be releasing another patch soon: http://www.bethblog.com/index.php/2011/12/01/skyrim-what-were-working-on/

Oh wait, its The Blood’s Honor not the Purity of Revenge. Can’t finish Blood’s Honor since nothing triggered about Kodlak’s death.

Based on the walkthrough videos on youtube, the location of Aela and Vilkas and that one other guy (Torvar?) is not placed properly. Vilkas is forever at the backyard of the guild house, Torvar and Aela are happily randomly walking/sitting/eating in the building instead of being outside standing over the corpse of the dead silver hands.

I just hope the latest patch fix all these crashing and bugged quests.

As I said before, any info to help would be useful.

Cough Farkas cough

this might have to be my first elder scrolls game, but did the patch fix the horrid frame rate on ps3?

Damn. Sadly, I’m one of “those people” who got the 360 version.

Yeah, I’ll let myself out…
