All those years ago with Tech that doesn’t scratch the tech now, the managed Shivering Isles. I want to know what shit they can pull of now.
Speaking of Shivering Isles…
Apparently…
Spoiler
…the ending to that was canon in the lore. That made me such a happy nerd.
I am thinking the same thing. Its fun to sneak attack a couple people to death, but 90% of the time they turn around and see me. Plus, while I slowly shoot people one by one I know I could just walk in there and melee everybody to death if I had any melee skill. And 3x sneak attack damage?? is that even a big deal?
All I do is steal though, very fun. I am lvl 19 and I havent even seen the grey beards yet. I just wander around hunting elk until I run into something interesting, and pickpocket and lockpick everything
Btw, what does anybody feel about so many of the map locations being known so early and easily?Skyrim is supposed to be about exploring but my map is filled with so many black markers its like eh…and I found out where the Thieves Guild is through a loading screen, not sure if I am happy about that…
Yes it is [details=Spoiler]which explains many things, on top of the overall dislike for Daedra and the Daedric lords in Skyrim you also notice that the lords have little to no influence on top of many being shadows of their former selves.[/details]
Got my first word last night then forgot to use it an got bodies by the boss. Went to bed, I’ll try again tomorrow.
The Tamriel news is epic. I’d pay full price to go see how Vivec looks now, or the Imperial City. I’m probably going to save modding for after I beat the game…in a year
Okay.
I played a lot of Dark Souls.
But quit playing due to UMVC3, intending to go back.
Skyrim came out.
I played it a bit.
Then Zelda and KoF came out, and I put it aside to taste them.
I bought Ico, Batman AC, U3, Sonic, Rayman.
I am back in Skyrim.
And my other games weep for their loss of playtime.
And shall for many months to come.
I am glad that they are already thinking of working on a Dark Souls combat system for this game, where stamina actually matters.
Gonna be a while, since the construction set isn’t out yet~ But they already figured out how to export models, work on the UI and people are making mods for stuff even without the CS just using some of the tools that Oblivion used to some success. Once the CS is out, I expect the mod production to increase by a ton. Few college of winterhold mods being worked on too that are going to expand the college by giving it more classrooms and such, where you can actually go and learn to specialize in magic. Those are gonna take a few months to come out though, minimum.
woah…i need to check that out when I get home. Only allowing 2 gigs of ram? Eat a giant dick, my 8 gigs is fine. Tying it to steam? Wow, I was worried about Bethesda after the whole Rage incident, now i am terrified.
I am still checking out Morrowind tonight though.
Stamina kinda matters, its just dumb that when you’re out of stamina, you just do no damage (so you end up having to attack, then wait awhile to attack again). I still have to admit, combat is kinda fucked up a little still. Seems like they want you to switch between various weapons, shields, and magic, but even with favourites and hotkeys, its too confusing and time consuming.
I am LOVING boss fights now though. No more getting to the end and just fighting another thug/bandit with good equipment. Now its giants spiders, demon zombies, or shit like that. Can’t wait to put some SERIOUS time into this game
Dark Souls Combat wasn’t that great. Whilst you had to manage stamina and work out a Boss’ patterns. It’s still pretty Old School with not much innovation. I’m only talking about the actual player here. The game itself was great, I just can’t see the hype for the Combat…
I did the Black Reach quest last night. Man, that was crazy! When I entered Black Reach I was completely amazed. Definitely the best quest I’ve done so far.
On thing Dark Souls had over Skyrim wen it comes to combat IMO is impact, every hit in DS feels like it has weight to it, Skyrim it feels like I’m swinging paper. When I hit soemone with a BK Greatsword Heavy attack I feel that, when I nail a Zwhieander normal I feel it.
What makes the combat in dark souls great despite it not being innovative (or flashy) is that everything connects together nicely and it rewards timing, patience and practice. It is also very crisp and gets you killed for mashing. Bad swings mean you eat a ton of damage (specially true if you miss a swing with a ultra greatsword or use ultra greatsword attacks when you can’t make enemies flinch), you messed up you pay the price usually with your life. Not managing your stamina properly and blocking an attack instead of moving out of the way or dodging it means that you take damage, and are probably now knocked down which puts you in another bad position. Having parry (small shields) or bash (large shields) in shields is nice as well since you can go for a more risk-free playstyle if you want to give up flexibility (the ability to parry vs the ability to block just about any attack without losing all your stamina), add that most large shields are heavy and this further adds to equipment burden, thus limiting your mobility (unless you go for really high Endurance) this means that it’s important to pay attention to equipment instead of going for full armor sets because they give a bonus to armor if work together, since there eventually is no real downside for wearing heavy armor in Skyrim (except for sneaking, but I’ve managed to do plenty of assassinations in stealth while wearing heavy armor anyway). Enemies with shields can be kicked to break their guard (useful for enemies with spears and rapiers), as well as enemies that parry (with both shield and weapons), but mess up the kick and BAM you eat the counter for most of your life (if not all of it), you can also attack while blocking with spears which is something that more games should do.
Shit just makes sense, but Skyrim doesn’t even have spears (and they were all 2 handed in Morrowind), as well as have the ability to wield weapons with 1 or 2 hands (this I really like, and could have worked well with perks and with sneak attacks IMO). The magic, archery and sneak style playstyles are much better in Skyrim than Dark Souls IMO, since Dark Souls has many restrictions for things like spellcasting (despite it still being ridiculously strong in the right hands) and things like bows and crossbows seem more for pulling enemies than an actual playstyle.
tl;dr version : Melee combat in Skyrim feels like I’m swinging at the air most of the time even if I’m hitting enemies and it doesn’t in Dark Souls.
The one thing that I still don’t understand is why the hell hasn’t Bethesda hasn’t gone ahead and incorporated the Dark Messiah of Might and Magic combat system in their games, I mean if you look at some of the improvements with Skyrim, it’s pretty clear they want to go for this route. I’m sure ZeniMax could talk to the guys of Arkane Studios and strike some sort of deal…
Well, doesn’t matter, I just hope we get Deadly Reflex for Skyrim (which the devs clearly used as inspiration for some of the stuff in FO3 and Skyrim) :-p
I need to stop writing these walls of text, haha.
Edit: Oh hey Steam sales are here.
I just got skyrim a few days ago. I never beat oblivion side quests, but this game I am spending a lot more time on since I am out of school for now.
This game is awesome so far, good fights, good battles and great music and graphics. I love how they added a ton of different animals too while exploring. Just some quick gameplay questions…
Is it just me or does the menu seem unresponsive and laggy sometimes? I have the game saved on my 360 HD and I downloaded a patch (not sure what it was for) but the start menu and sometimes talking to people, I have to wait a couple seconds before I can click to continue.
Also, what do you guys do will all your weight that you are carrying? I can carry 420lbs and I have an average of 350 after dropping all my shit off at my house and carrying my necessary outfit. Just frustrating.
Also, dragon bones, what do I do with them? I can’t find anyone who buys them
I try to limit what I carry with me at all times. Companions can hold some stuff for you but they also have a weight limit. If you are wearing heavy armor, you are going to want the perk that makes equipped heavy armor not weigh anything. Potions are probably the fastest way to get overweight without realizing it. There are a lot of potions and they weight .5 each. Try to limit the amount of potions you carry and deposit the rest in your house chest (or sell them).
Dragon scales and dragon bones are used to craft dragonscale and dragonplate armor, you need 100 smithing to craft it. If you don’t care about this, you can go ahead and sell them as they are good money.
True dat. You could get punished legit in Dark Souls. But in Skyrim you really don’t.
Meh. Different games. I dont think an open world RPG would benefit from anything like Dark Souls, Theres more to it than combat. Although, The same can be said for any game in history.
In Dark Souls case, that “more” being dying.
Not being able to go from the Dragon armor perk in Smithing to the Daedric perk in smithing makes me a very sad light armor user.
A very sad light armor user. Unless there’s a better sword and dagger than Daedric stuff…I should look around on UESP.
Daedric Weapons are pretty Legit. I’m repping a Legendary Deadric, Soul Trapping + Health Draining bow and I can 1 Hit KO Giants, Mammoths and NEARLY dragons with a sneak attack / Critical.
