^ I’ll have to echo those sentiments. I played NV more than FO3 and NV is much more of a fallout, and better overall, game than FO3 was. I’ve only managed to put in about 6 hours into Skyrim so far but from what I’ve seen it’s just as good as New Vegas and will most likely surpass NV after I play for awhile longer. Obsidian is still the best when it comes to writing but Bethesda has improved a lot when comparing skyrim to fallout.
I made a video guide on lock picking on the PC, which i assume is harder than console
Tell me your thoughts!
Thanks for the impressions! Will probably wait a bit to see if there’s a mod that improves this aspect then.
Blackreach is like the coolest place in a videogame ever,
This game just gets better and better the further through the main storyline you are.
fucking only managed to get to Riverwood on launch day. Yesterday I robbed everybody in Riverwood. Just gotta make it through work today then I get two days off work to basically live in Skyrim mode. I’ve only been able to play it for a combined total of an hour, and I’m still amazed. And it’s fucked, cuz I walk around town or sit on the bus to/from work, and I hear people explaining Skyrim (some dude telling his gf how he looked at a rock for an hour, amazed at its detail)
This is my first Elder Scrolls game (and really my first Bethesda game), and coming from a guy who plays Bioware RPGs (ME, DA, KoTOR, and Infinity Engine game like BG) this game is a bit overwhelming. There are so many stats to level up, so much shit to do, and there are TONS of items, I broke into these guys home and theres so much food and ingrediants…and since I am a horder, I’m costantly having deal with carrying too much stuff, which is real annoying.
Right now, I have mixed feelings about the game. The graphics and the story is great, but the melee fighting really sucks. It has that swinging-through-air feel that so my MMORPG’s are plagued with. I’d like to feel like I’m hitting something. Also, I dont like how you have to point directly at shit with those tiny crosshairs to interact with it. It makes gathering items way more time consuming then it has to be.
I’ll keep playing it for now, but if I can’t get past these controls, I’m going to uninstall it and go back to MGS HD Collection.
Anyone know where I can get gems appraised early on in the game?
i ain’t sure, but check out the city in the very South East of the world (name’s escaped me right now…Riven or something like that). I know that:
Spoiler
the thieve’s guild is located there, so it wouldn’t be a far stretch to think you could get gems appraised there
oh you happened upon one of them too? The quest should point you right to where you have to go.
Just finished the main quest line, it really does escalate, absolutely perfect as far as game flow goes. Do wish it was longer, but always do after an amazing game, I’ve got that don’t know what to do next feeling now, the climax of the story is just brilliant and some of the areas you get to explore are amazing. Still so much to explore, the world might not be as big as Morrowind but it feels like there is just as much to do. Almost strange to think that Bethesda actually managed to get from Oblivion/Fallout 3 to this, the only thing that I don’t love is the dialogue, but it kinda makes sense it would be limited seeing as its fully voice acted. I have so many questions now that I’ve finished the game…
I dont care who you are or what you do but all of you MUST, ABSOLUTELY MUST do the thiefs guild questline!
Spoiler
i hear that the dark brotherhood quest line is even better too!
Comments like this Troll the life out of me. I’m not even going to respond, You made me mad at the Underlined.
God damn it.
I usually ALWAYS do thieves guild first (thieving skills are too useful over the course of the game, compared to other skills). Hell, my all time favourite mission was stealing an Elder Scroll back in Oblivion. Huge ass long dungeon, tons and tons of sneaking around, way too many guards, and I didn’t bring enough potions. And the Gray Fox mask was fucking super SUPER useful.
I am hoping the Mage Guild final reward isn’t so shitty this time around (i was REALLY hoping to learn a new magic like necromancy or something, in Oblivion).
The unusual gems that you gotta get appraised is in Riften, just take a carriage there. Now that I am up again, time to play Skyrim for 14 hours again.
One thing I really wish though is that you got to pick major and minor skills. You just level way too fucking fast now. I am level 30 and all I’ve really done is level pickpocket, speech, smithing and enchanting. 2H skill is at 80, heavy armor in the 50s so it’s not like I’ve done a whole lot.
Also, class stones and birth stones. You can have a class stone or a birth stone power. Not both, which is kinda odd seeing as they do different things.
Uh oh, this area makes me CTD. Feels bad man.
has anybody became a warewolve yet ?
anybody know where i can find some out and about instead of doing the questline to become one ?
You gotta join the companions in whiterun to become a werewolf. not all that to be honest haven’t used it yet even once because no need.
oh btw heres the entire soundtrack

safe to say game of the year
I just picked up this game today. I never played this type of game, but couldn’t resist the SRK seal of approval on this game.
Being a total newbie, I was thinking of working with magic and one handed sword, kinda like a duel attack, so I can hit far with magic, then strike when the enemy gets close. Is it recommended in the long run, or do I have to go either or magic/ melee? Also, if I go magic/ melee, what armor type is recommended?
Ive got Skyrim just not really got into yet, but I can see it has huuuuuge potential. Never played any of these games and the amount of choice is staggering and I’m not really sure how to ‘spec’…also U can reassign perks without starting over can u?
I wouldn’t worry too much about the perks. They are very useful for the most part. You just have to decide what you want to play so do this. Just level up normally and save the perks, but try out all the weapons and a few spells first. When you level you have to pick to level stamina, health or magicka you can’t save this unfortunately. So just level without going into your skills tree and try shit out. then when you decide that you want to focus on a certain playstyle, then you can go and increase your stats accordingly. Magic users need a shitload of mana.
I am going for my usual easy mode warrior with restoration route
Cool, cheers for the tip. Ive actually been doing that, upgrading stamina and health as I see fit. Just thought cos I was getting bodied (died quite a few times doin a side quest involving bandits…wont say nemor cos I dunno how to do the spoiler tags) I was doing something wrong.
Yeah, going the warrior route as well! Broke as hell tho haha, so my weapons are shit. 3am here but screw it, gna go have a session!
