Ideas for Street Fighter 5

Your ideas are mostly horrible. 2/10.

Brilliant!

First off, SF3 was a long time ago. Capcom can still take a risk in SFV, but it doesn’t have to be as risky as SF3. And after SFxT, Capcom needs a rebound. Now the rebound doesn’t have to be SFV, but if Capcom was to stop making fighting games today, it wouldn’t be on a high note.

Capcom shouldn’t make SFV in fear of failure so much that it compromises its individuality. Whats the point of making a “new” street fighter if most of the ideas in the game are refurbished copy/pastes. I do not want SFV to be simply a nostalgia trip. A fighting game being so familiar that its impossible to be bad b/c that’s boring, lazy, and a short-lived high. I want SFV to stand on its own two as a unique fighting game experience i can’t get anywhere else.

My opposition of every single SF character ever in SFV is based on tradition. The main games (SF1,SFII, SFIII, SFIV) never went that route (even though SFIV got kind of reckless). Alpha-series on the other hand did. Alpha 3 pretty much had everybody in it when it dropped on consoles. Why not do the same with Alpha 4 and have two franchises running @ the same time:

SFV - for more of the hardcore vibe. A good balance of new characters & old revamped ones. Fighting mechanic(s) exclusive to SFV. A COHESIVE STORY.
Alpha 4 - every SF/FinalFight character that ever existed. X-isms, A-isms, V-isms, IV-isms, 3rd-Isms, whatever. a few new characters too.

And i would classify old non-playables in the SF/FinalFight series as NEW characters if they were playable in SFV.

Agreed. They should go back to SFIII’s framework as a base;

  • Smaller stage size
  • Keep the EX moves
  • Universal super jumps

And build on that.

I’m sure majority of people liked Ultras…

If Ultras are coming back they should have sterner requirements.

I recall when SF4 was announced I used to think that you required both a full super and revenge meter in order to do an Ultra. Considering how powerful they are and how they basically function as a deus ex machina I think it’d be best if they worked this way.

You must be new.

Ultras, and comeback mechanics in general, are quite disliked in the competitive community.

Are they? Why do people play then?
Also competitive community’s opinion doesn’t really matter in terms of general things like Ultra/Characters… people who buy this game for fun (majority of customers) do like Ultras.
The only thing they did for competitive community is changes in frame data/ultra properties in the super/2012 update.

I really wish people would go beyond “I liked it” and “it was fun” and instead focus on how a mechanic affects the metagame. Back in vanilla, a good part of the meta-game was all about being able to land your Ultras. In other words, to access your best option, you needed to get hit. This is an ass backwards concept no matter how you look at it, especially since a big part of playing well is not getting hit. Even now, after all the fixes, Ultras still represent an option given to the player for doing badly.

I disagree obviously, but was was so “horrible” about my ideas? The way I look at it, the majority of my ideas are something Capcom will probably do anyways.

Any thoughts on who the villain would be? I wasn’t at all impressed with Seth (worst villain in SF series), Bison was awesome, as well as Shin Akuma (ST hidden boss). I didn’t care for Gill much either, thongs on guys is never a good idea.

My pick would be Goutetsu, the master of Gouken and Gouki (Akuma). Yeah he is supposed to be dead, but look what they did with Gouken? Goutetsu represents a perfect balance between the light and dark sides of the hadou, they could make him immensely powerful (unplayable of course).

The only thing I’d like to see in Street Fighter 5 is Cody return and another character that uses Baji Quan. That would be awesome. Also no Ultras, please. I hated the idea of a meter that was built around only taking damage and FADC’ing attacks, completely stupid.

Nope, he’s dark side, not a balance.

Why do some of you feel that a revamped parry that does grey damage also needs a whiff animation?

Nerf DPs.

  1. Don’t have such a self righteous attitude.
  2. Like I said, whether you like it or not, a MASSIVE majority of SALES (this is what companies need to make money) are from people who play for fun.
And tbh, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Yes Ultra is a comeback mechanic but by no means do people rely on it… the furthest it does is change matchups (for example, Abel’s U1 doesn’t allow fireballs to be thrown) but that’s part of the metagame, if you don’t like it play many of the other games available?
    Simple.

Because he gains that option from getting hit.

I’d say that either one or the other is fair. Either one should shut any whiners up.

I prefer grey damage though.

Gouken witnessed Goutetsu’s death, so it would be very hard to debunk that. Goutetsu’s actually dark, and Akuma surpassed him. Getting killed by his student is a rite of passage to inherit the mastery of Hadou.

The best way to make the next Street Fighter game memorable is by releasing it on the 30th anniversary of the franchise, make it non-canon, and feature every character that appeared in the game.

Also, they could turn Evil Ryu and Oni as Ryu and Akuma’s buff super art similar to Tanden Renki.

Maybe they could also feature a “create your fighter” where you can customize your own character with moves from other characters. Of course it should include a points system so that there would be a limit on which and how many moves the customized fighter could have.

For example, I have a fighter who has Ryu’s Hadouken, Juri’s Senpusha, and Cammy’s Cannon Spike. Wait, that could be broken. o_o

I thought it was really hard to debunk Gouken’s death but they went and did it anyways. Oh, he was just napping in a cave all this time. Yup.

I hate how they’re deliberately putting so little effort into the story that it ends up becoming a parody of itself.
