Not quite.

Ok, I think I made that up. Or is it? The sources doesn’t say if Gouken witnessed the deathmatch or not. Is the Udon comic accepted as canon?
Gouken has been Raging Demon’ed but survived because of the power of nothingness but reduced to a comatose state maybe because he doesn’t know how to get out of it.
That’s why it would be a good idea if their milestone, if not the next Street Fighter game would be non-canon so that they will be able to put every character in the game without worrying about ruining the game’s already holey plot.
I want them to address what would happen if Hugo met Zangief.
Maybe, in the storyline, all the different characters are on “teams”, or have a sense of camraderie, based on the games (“tournaments”) they’re from. Alpha characters stick with Alpha characters, SF3 characters stick with SF3 characters, etc…
That’s the problem. Let’s say that your Ryu has done a good job at keeping out Abel with projectile zoning throughout the match. Why should the opponent get rewarded with a powerful tool that negates your winning strategy by failing to get around it?
That argument would only be valid if Capcom couldn’t care less about the competitive side of things, something we know isn’t the case, what with them working with the IPL.
Good players can adapt, the way I see it. I’m not defending Ultras by any means, though.
Of course.
The question is then, should a player be forced to adapt because their opponent gained a new option by losing.
The sources say that Gouki and Goutetsu were alone when Goutetsu died. No Gouken with them. Udon’s comic is not accepted as canon.
Gouken does know how to get out of it; it’s the same way Gen does, and it’s a technique rather than a power (‘power of nothingness’ was a particularly crummy conversion going from Japanese to English along with raging demon).
I don’t understand how you find it so stupid though… like it changes the metagame… if they released the same metagame as SF3 it’d be boring.
People complain about change when its new (like you said in Vanilla) but once you open your mind a little and learn to accept new things you can see the positives of how it ADDS to the metagame.
Makes it harder and more interesting.
Some things are just insane though, like Akuma’s Ultra 1 I find is ridiculous…
Tripping would also add to the metagame and make it more interesting.
The problem is that it creates a reward for getting hit, which is dumb.
Thing is they still have to land the ultra and they can be baited. For example, I can’t just throw out Abel’s U1 and hope to get lucky (unless they are chucking plasma from fullscreen lol), I have to land 1-2 1f links and time my U1 as the opponent comes down from my c.HP. As for people who just throw it out when they are in a bind… you know just as well as I do that someone who panic ultras is going to die shortly afterwards.
I don’t really mind ultras as I feel that people who have their ultra, had SF4 had a meter system like SFxT, would have usually built enough meter for a super anyway. I can definitely see how it would piss people off in really high-end competitive gameplay where comeback mechanics and luck have no place, though.
If the current ultra mechanics disappeared from SF5, I wouldn’t mind. If it didn’t, wouldn’t mind either. Either way, I’m all for what makes most players happy.
I like the ultra moves because of the eye candy animations and nothing else. I’m actually ambivalent towards it since both players have them at their disposal. If they’re going to remove the ultra, they should at least use those ultras as super moves instead.
I also don’t mind if they implement roll-recoveries, it would make okizeme and wake-up options more interesting instead of being jumped on everytime you get knocked down.
I know this is almost impossible, but it would be a lot better if super arts will be a single motion instead of double. They can just make the meter gain harder in order to compensate.
Doesn’t super meter also go up when being hit/blocking hits?.. and doing special moves… and pressing normals (YESSSS mashing cr.MP in 3rd strike SO BAD ASS!!!) and… yeah…
Idk man, maybe you’re too old fashioned to appreciate it? I think it makes sense that the more the fighter is pushed the stronger he gets and is able to unleash his/her deadly(/iest) attack(s).
I don’t really see Ultra’s going from SF anytime soon but SF5 is still a lot of years away and Capcom like to surprise so we’ll see I guess
Rolls should only be implemented if they fix movement and don’t make everyone walk ass slow.
Also, Super are at least build BOTH from dealing and receiving damage. The comeback factor is minimized by the fact that someone who is beating someone else up most likely has just about the same amount of meter available to them.
For SF4 the answer probably is yes, because without Ultras that game would have been quickly reduced to a land first hit -> vortex -> turtle -> win game. It will depend a lot on how they design SF5, if it didn’t have the SF4 damage scaling, the SF4 walk speed and nonsense like FADCable uppercuts then Ultras would be a lot harder to justify.
Casual audience is what Capcom is going to strive for with its flagship series. Look what it has done with Marvel btw? It has kept simplifying the controls in each installment to make things easier for casuals. You think the hardcore/pro players wanted simpler controls, less normals? The fact of the matter is money talks, and Street fighter is a big name…so big potential payoff. They are going to want it to appeal as many people as possible, if only the hardcore FGC buy the game it will be a massive failure and they would suffer grave losses.
As mentioned before Goutetsu’s death wasn’t witnessed by anyone…so the ‘state of nothingness’. This is street fighter, they don’t take their storylines seriously, they could easily find a way to include him in the game. Didn’t Akuma break Bison’s neck? Wouldn’t Ibuki and Makoto be toddlers in the time period SFIV takes place in? Gouken miraculously survives? A fat guy can fight (Rufus)? Wouldn’t Sakura now be a young woman (since she is from the Alpha series)?
