Ibuki Player Guide (book)

Speaking of which, I played against someone who auto-piloted his Fierce Shoryuken against the Kunai Vortex. “THAT DOESN’T WORK ANYMORE!” I shouted, as I preceded to get several clean punishes in a row.

That what he gets for questioning my choice of Yoroitoshi against his Boxer.

I do the same thing, but only to keep him fearful of his close-up game, and possibly to punish a deep rush punch. Any other way it can be used?

I punished his safe-jump, I tried to tell him it was guaranteed but he was probably too pissed by that point. I also told him it gives Ibuki Okizeme when using it as a punish, and it is the most damaging punish. It also eats up a close TAP and his Overhead.

Anyway he brought it up when I did HJC Yoroitoshi. I guess he assumed I was styling, but it was the most damaging combo I had at the time I could use it.

You see the thing is, the only other Ibuki player is F-Word, and he uses Hashinsho for basically every match-up, so a few people down here don’t know the uses of Yoroitoshi. It’s fun.

Good tips. Yeah, I thought I was the only person who uses U1 in certain matchups. I find it quite useful versus a majority of the rushdown characters, they tend to play a bit more conservative when it’s fully charged up.

I don’t use it in the C.Viper match-up anymore though. I can’t punish Fierce TK’s start-up anymore (sad-face). But yeah, I prefer to bring Yoroitoshi as much as possible since I’m remembered as the HJC Yoroitoshi guy.

If for some reason I’m on stream at a large event and I pull it off, I’ll improvise some sort of dance to go with it. /sarcasm

today i got some abel! …only cr.lk > cr.lk > cr.lk > st.lk>st.lp > st.mk cancle and then again cr.lk aso…
just mash that S-Word out…no combos, no game plan, no strategy, just mash his block string out over and over…if i press a button its gonna counter hit me.
the only mix up he did is his command grab, and when i get a chance to do a blockstring, he mashes that command grab out.
And finally i get my knock down and he do his roll
i was like "Oo okay…this sucks"
so how to handle with this kind of players! it seems to be more risk to me than for him

i was fed up and used the new (improved) cammy…this is where his fun stops

the mashing against ibuki is incredible and really hard to handle cuz after a whiffed lp srk follows again a lp srk and again and again mixed up with hp srk or ex.srk…so he tells “don’t punish me, after lp dp follows an ex. dp” witch has invincibility frames on startup…
they do everything, just not to get knocked down!
thats the same with adon and his over overhead kick (jaguar tooth) THIS S-Word IS SAFE ON BLOCK, i’ve tried to punish it with raida/ex raida, nothings work and if pressed a button its double pain because its counter hit…so he chipped me out like a chipmunk!
frustrating!
then cody…his moves is even always counter hit and when cody cornered buki, only way is block and whait to focus lv.2! this is the only way i found out.
got no problems with ken, cuz when ken players is mashin, they mash hp/ex dp and it whiffs always (its banana srk) and i can punish with everything!

Look to Juicebox Abel for tips on that, he’s top tier in the art of dancing during ultras.

Huge post for mmx :

Mash EX Kazegiri after tha MK cancel, and laugh at him.

If he command grabs you, you were definitely not doing a blockstring.
Also, Abel’s grab is EXTREMELY unsafe. If you notice Abel mashes it, go for the “EPIC BLUFF TECHNIQUE”: something like cr.LP cr.LP cr.LP -> neutral jump. If he command grabs, you’ll be airborne o not affected, and then punish him (if you can do it with a double Tsumuji loop it’s even funnier ^^ ). Otherwise LP kunai to land safely.

He mashes roll on wakeup? Do an empty-jump, and just throw. Abel’s roll is NOT invincible to throws!
Even better: YOROITOSHI. With the easier command in v2012 it’ll be even easier. Empty jump to yoroitoshi, I swear at least half of Abels you’ll see will just fall for it. (cause even if he’s doing something else, you may get him… )

QFT.
This is exactly my problem. Try to analyze your opponent’s game. Try once a face blockstring, look if he mashes shoryu. If he does, it’s bluff time. cr.LP cr.LP to nothing, and let him shoryu for nothing.
Also for shotos, learn the EX neckbreaker unblockable which is REALLY EASY to do and incredibly useful (even more in v2012  )

Nope, they’re not.
I understand you cause I used to hate Adon. Then Mingo told me. Now I love Adon.
Against jaguar tooth, you should just st.LP, or backdash if he mashes.
Or, if you want the really funny way to counter it, you can Raida a Jaguar tooth. Basically, the timing is easy: you have to input Raida when he is on the wall ready to jump in. Funniest punish ever. You’ll see, once you get used to it, Adon will become a fun matchup =)

Cody is a frame-trap character. You should never try to hit him when you are under pressure (okay, maybe an EX tsumuji occasionnally, but not more).
The most important thing with Cody is to take the match under YOUR control. When he starts pressuring you, it’s very difficult to escape. Moreover, he walks faster in v2012 so this’ll be even more difficult!
He doesn’t have any reliable way to get out of your kunai vortex, so put him down and kick his ass

WHOA wait a second Damascus, there’s no reason to empty-jump into Yoroitoshi. You can do a safe-jump and option-select it.

I went for empty jump to give the “easy” version =)
Everybody’s not used to option selects (I also still have trouble using them consistently), so I assumed somebody having trouble against Jaguar Tooths & Abel’s command grab wasn’t used to option select =)
It takes time to become an Izuna. Before that, we are all Damascuses.

If you’re playing Abel, and he lands a command grab between your attacks, then you most definitely did NOT do a blockstring. Keep in mind that do a st.mk from a jab series is NOT a true blockstring, and will lose out to mashed out reversals. If you see that your opponent is doing this, then you should intentionally leave a gap in your attack, and punish accordingly. If you land the knockdown, and Abel is mashing roll, then simply do a safe jump setup and OS a throw, Abel’s roll has no throw invincibility. You could also option select a neckbreaker to catch.

If you’re late on punishing ryu’s DP, then don’t bother. If he does another follow-up dp, then you should have plenty of time to punish it, since you can expect him to do another one. Tbh he does’nt sound like a very good Ryu if all he’s doing is mashing a shoryuken, be sure to punish him for his randomness and make him stop those shenanigans. It’s important to punish him, or else he’ll just keep doing it until you’re dead.

If you’re having problems dealing with adon and his jaguar tooth, then keep yourself out of a position where he can do it. If he’s just doing it constantly, you can always just backdash to get yourself some space, or slide to the other side to get your own offense going.

Cody is deadly on the ground. His frame traps will deal a WORLD of hurt to you, so you have to fight him on your own terms. Try and create some space for yourself if you get caught in his ground game, and you cannot let him jump in on you for free. The Cody fight is actually in Ibuki’s favor, imo, due to his limited options to deal with the vortex. You have to learn to play patient, play lame, but when you land the knockdown, you have to work to create openings to land big damage.

Jaguar Tooth can go full screen…? I’m not sure how you’re going to just simply “keep yourself out of a position where he can do it.” Anyways, just block and mash U1 and that will solve that problem.

Adding to what others have said, when Abel does st.MK xx dash, he’s at 0, iirc. Or maybe he’s at +1. I forgot what Juicebox told me. But anyways, mashing throw at this point is generally a good idea. Since Abel’s fastest normal starts up in 4f, he’ll get thrown no matter what he does unless he does TT, which is quite a risk. If you predict this, neutral jump and then come down with Tsumuji loop punish. Or backdash if you don’t want to take the risk (such as Abel’s cr.HP into U1).

Jab dp should be easy to whiff punish. Work on your reaction speed. Either that or stop playing laggy matches online.

Are you talking about Jaguar Kick or Jaguar Tooth? Adon doesn’t have any kick attacks that hit overhead… unless you’re talking about EX Jaguar Kick or instant neutral jump HK.

Jumping it on reaction is a pretty good way to get out of it, if you don’t want to directly counter it with a normal poke, or a raida if you’re trying to be fancy.

If you want to be fancy, you’d might as well reaction neckbreaker. I haven’t really tried it since U1 is pretty much a braindead punish, but I think it would be a good way to catch any purposely whiffed Jaguar Tooths to bait an antiair. Even if you get hit, he can’t really follow up with it. And the reward is quite in your favor because after that neckbreaker comes vortex.

I should try that reaction neckbreaker. I’m just afraid of doing it too late and having Adon land from Jaguar tooth and block it, and end up getting caught in a HUGE punish because I mistimed my own punish.

I didn’t know that U1 punished a blocked jaguar tooth for free. Does this also apply to EX version?

It definitely applies to EX version. All versions are minus on block. I’d be more worried about the spacing, which is why sometimes I walk forward and then try to block at the last second.

Isn’t this with Ibuki’s back to the corner only, as well as only if you’re standing?

Yeah I remember there was an issue where if you blocked it crouching, there would be more pushback or something such that you’re out of range for U1. I never really bothered to test, and I usually just block it standing just to be sure.

Kind of like Fei Long has to block Honda’s headbutt standing in order to guarantee a Rekka punish, iirc.
