Ibuki Critique Thread ver.2

Again, I said you need to know when to mash it or when to use it. Between frametraps are good, but if they are getting blocked its probably only because you mashing really really really loudly. In that video you posted, the answer was mash dp on wake up. He went for a meaty every time. Every time. If the opponent is next to you then try to just reversal it with one or two button presses so they don’t react to the noise. Unless he is using some sort of safe jump or jab pause jab pause pressure, he should not be able to bait out your dps. Chances are you are probably just mashing it too hard or at the wrong situations. Again, if you don’t want to dp try stand teching if he is delaying his frame traps to catch your dp, then stand teching will get him thrown out of it. If you can’t handle it don’t put yourself in that situation in the first place, just back dash out of it make sure to test out if he has any option selects, if not abuse it.

Blocking the vortex or kunai vortex is impossible, not even other ibukis can block it. Chances are you just have a terrible vortex and make EVERY SINGLE kunai cross up. Which of course is easy to block. Hit the training room and set a dummy to controller and make it so that it holds down right. Then see if you can make it cross up or not cross up on command. A easy way of doing it is neck breaker, s.lp, super jump, kunai (at top of the arc). if you immediately super jump after the s.lp you will cross up (i think) if you delay it just a bit, it won’t (maybe its reversed). If you can control it on command, then you should be able to keep him guessing. But if you’re also mixing it up with knockdowns he will have to guess every time. From neck breaker try things like walk back, sjc. Walk forward (whiff a normal) jump. Walk forward kunai. Empty jump low. Sjc kunai. Jump kunai. Slide kunai. All can or cannot cross up. Not only that you can also use different set ups / timings with ex neckbreaker, mk tsumuji, raida, forward throw, sweep, safejumps whatever as long as you never do the same thing over and over again, he will never find a consistent answer to blocking your vortex. Just make you you chase him down once he decides to ex dp out of it.

Whiffing s.lp will get you a safe jump timing, if you super jump immediately afterwords and kunai at the top of the arc you will get a cross up, delay the super jump just a bit and you will get it to not cross up. I think they are both safe jumps, but I don’t go for it that much. Just try to mix it up with safejumps and crossups. sjc after ex tsumuji works on pretty much everyone unless if its at max max range I think, to some characters. You can do the same for mk tsumuji and hk tsumuji for that matter, just make sure you throw out the kunai high enough and is super jumped. I’m pretty sure that the only high level understanding that your viper has is “if it works, why stop doing it?” if his hp tk beats out your kunai, then why would he stop doing it? I’m pretty sure latif wont do it against sako because it will just whiff.

In fact there’s A LOT of things Latif will never do simply because at high levels people will always punish it. The only times where you will see him use unsafe / not so safe things is when he knows the player doesn’t know the match up and just goes ape shit and then you have a 10 second round. Things like sumper jump full screen burnkick on your wakeup.

The Viper match is somewhat funky. You can’t really stop them jumping around and spamming all this shit. The only thing you can do is stand in good locations that will bait them into doing things and punishing accordingly. You can see it in that Sako video. Ibuki was never in Viper’s c.mk or tk range for example, Sako would always run away from that distance. But yeah, the reason Sako was able to beat latif was that he blocked most of the mixups on wake up, he didn’t dodge many or c.mk under them, he just blocked them.

Yeah, he does like jab wait jab to bait DPs, and he has set ups to get crouch/stand techs, as well as OSes to get backdashes. I just need to learn when he plans on doing that shit so I can tech/DP/backdash appropriately, but that’s specific to this match up. Although I’m sure it’d be useful against others, this guy just fuckin KNOWS MY BRAIN it’s like he’s psychic omg.
Or gee I dunno maybe I’m hella predictable lmao.

I do not cross up kunai every single time. That would be fuckin retarded. The way I used to do it was neckbreaker, half step forward, kunai = cross up or, neckbreaker 2 or 3 steps forward, kunai = hit in front (At least for Dud, doesn’t always work with other smaller characters.) And then once they start blockin that shit you can delay the jumps or kunai to make it ambiguous.
But when I found out about her nb getting nerfed in Ultra, I’ve tried using them a little bit less to be able to ease my way into Ultra. The timing off tsumu knockdowns, sweeps, throws, etc., are still off but yolo

Although I listened to your sage advice and started mashing DP on wake up and it worked like every time. loloololol

Thanks again

Need some advice. All I can figure is jump less and stop dropping combos :frowning:

Also need help vs grapplers. I don’t have any of my ibuki vs grappler, but I was wondering if I can translate some of my fei habits vs them to my ibuki?

As an aside, what are the main reasons for playing ibuki over other vortexes like cammy, decapre, akuma, yun? My reason so far is “because ninja”

Ibuki’s main advantage are her variety of tools and options. She has a huge toolset that still hasn’t been fully explored, so it’s up to each player to be able to approach each matchup. Grapples are tough because it requires a lot more patience than other matchups. Work on anti-airing so you can control the pace of the game more, and change the tempo when you want to. If you’re playing Fei, get comfortable in the neutral game and transfer that to Ibuki, it’ll only help you as a player.

Here’s a link to an Ibuki guide, be sure to read and follow it so you can identify what you need to work on
