Ibuki Critique Thread ver.2

Sounds like you already know what horrible habits you need to get rid of.

I have been working on learning combos and I feel I have a good grasp on them now. I am still learning on the best times to use them within a match. The following match was a bit laggy so I missed some combos but was wondering about my general strategy and approach that I took on the match up.

RD 1

Tried to use some Kunai for easy damage/defend my space
Using dash to get close without jumping
:39 accidental neckbreaker that worked out
Tend to jump back a lot and use ex kunai
Was taught to limit jumping in at end of round

RD 2

Using dash instead of jumping in
ex neckbreaker on hadoken
trying to use Kunai to make space
More jumping back with ex kunai

RD 3

Bad combo (ex raida) created too much space
2:47- giving up space when I should have used anti-air
More ex Kunai
Jumping back became predictable at end of round

Round 2 looked glaringly bad in my opinion. Not only did you walk yourself straight back to the corner with almost no pause, at about 1:45 you do a crossup j.LK on Gouken which puts you into the corner. Try to avoid doing that as much as possible. Unless you’re 100% sure that the other person will eat whatever mixup you throw at them, keep them in the corner. It will give you a more positional advantage rather than potential damage.

At about 2 minutes, Gouken had no meter and you let him wake up for free. Why?

In Round 3, I don’t necessarily think that EX Raida put you in a bad spot at all. An MP/HP Neckbreaker would have put you right on top of him to start some corner pressure.

All of Gouken’s dash palms are almost always (not sure about spacing) punishable by far st.LP into whatever you want.

As far as anti-airing Gouken, I tend to go with air throw or get out of the way.

I totally agree. I gave up too much ground too easily but I didn’t realize it until after I was in the corner. I have moments of awareness in my matches but I forget about spacing sometimes. Guess im still putting it all together when it comes to managing my game plan.

I think maybe im playing too cautiously or scared?

Also looking to train/ practice on Xbox live. Username is rjh8705. Hopefully will have a decent gaming PC in a few months .

More matches. Start at the 54:00 min mark. I messed up quite a few inputs and mash crouch tech too much. And also basic ground game against Sim? And I roundhouse too much.

Depending on where you’re located (I’m northeast US) we can try to play on 360. GT: Trogdor0102

I’m not the greatest but I can give you some pointers.

Hey guys i’m looking for an Ibuki training partner since ive finally come back to play sf4 after learning sfxt for sometime. My psn is devilstar22 and im available to play around 5pm eastern.

Hey Guys,

im looking for some trainingpartners and for people who need a mentor
Also im interessted in FT5 matches for my YT-channel www.youtube.com/thegamingblogde

It would be nice, Mingo and Damascus, if you both would play a FT5 with me and some trainingmatches.

Grtz.

I’d be honored to have you as a mentor, I really like your videos. I’ll add you the next time I log in to GFWL. I’ve been playing for about 3 weeks but I try to spend some time in training mode everyday and also play online whenever its possible.

^^ My match with the great Sherry Jenix. I can at least notice I MAY be getting better but who knows :stuck_out_tongue: hard training starts after the 23rd! (after finals)
Starts at 1:30

lol

other than you, she is probably the best player ive played with the cheapest character. but she is good, and hopefully I can learn more about the viper match up a lil more over the summer.

I think you can learn some from sherry as the first step, but I believe it’s better in your best interest to go against the hardest viper players you can possibly go against, if you’re investing your time into getting really good.

I’ve personally played against her and she isn’t a bad player; however, I see the way she plans her entire game plan and that’s what you should take note of. Notice how you’re getting hit with those burn kicks all the time?

So you’re saying my CViper is better than hers, when she mains CViper lol?

Lol, no I mean top players like that are placing top 8 or top 16 in majors. Fighting against anyone offline is good, but if players are looking to break the ice and win major’s, that’s the kind of players you would have to eventually go against.

Of course! So Cal has their killers! and I live in a good place to be training, especially since EVO time will be soon. If I end up getting good enough, I can have the opportunity to play against the best of so-cal like Valle, Mike Ross, JaycetheAce, DRS Chris, DRS Bren2xt, EG Floe, Jwong, (continues for a while longer). and these are just the known guys :stuck_out_tongue:

Once I start taking them down, then Ill know Im good

MingoDynasty vs Samifish

(hint: look under my picture to the left)

Mingo(Ryu) vs Samifish(Ibuki) BattleLog

Game 1
0:33 - Need to stop random EX Neckbreakers.
0:38 Note to self. Dash + Slide= MK Kazagiri. Curses, sf4 leniceny.
0:56 -I freakout backdash alot. ate an unnecesary fireball
1:09- Second random jump in. Should know that Ill be eating that dp everytime, especially from someone like mingo.
1:16 Did I seriously put myself in the corner with no mixup ?!
Summary of Game 1- Stop freaking out all the time. Most of my issues come with not thinking.

Game 2
2:41- Terrible Slide Dx
3:07- Shitty inputting. I dont even know what i meant to do.
3:08- Focus fireball, dash in. I should probably block when not dashing thru a fireball to go grab.
3:21- Landing st.MP, should do better to link that to st.MK and convert to Neckbreaker
3:25-Nothing done about the random FA that Ryu did. Free neckbreaker i didnt take
3:31- I knew what had happened the second after I did it. LK Tsumuji is -4 on block. Ryu super starts up in 3. Blam. NEED TO BE SMARTER ON SIMPLE AVIODABLE THINGS LIKE THAT
Summary of Game 2 - Doesnt really have a time stamp. Most of that round was me trying to occupy the cr.MK space of ryu, which is not advisable. Other times, I was doing better by staying just out of it. more of that. also, stupid shit up and down the game adds up

Game 3
3:54- Lost 25% Health because I didnt respect the zoning. Major disadvantage now from the getgo
4:10- Ryu jumps in for free and I have an extra bar. Would of tied up the game healthwise.
4:20 - Sweep punished the whiff rather than MP/MK to Ex Neckbreaker. Could of won the game with unblockables.
4:26- Fuck me and my execution.
4:35- Not respecting zoning.
4:53- Did i decide I didnt want damage or something!? aka fuck my execution.
5:03-Were trading wake-ups and I cant calm my ass down to not get Shoryu FADC ultra’d. brilliant.
5:10-Am I pressing buttons when im -4 on block smh
5:22- I cant do a decent punish to save my life for some reason. shoulda U2 and won. i didnt and fucked up on the t-loop again.
5:30 -seriously, kidna just got lucky.
5:37- Best thing to do against a ryu walking up on start of a round? neutral SJC -_-
5:42- wow. so lucky.
5:45- execution again. fucked up the MK Cmd dash, tried to bait dp with Ex Kunai and did it to late and still ate the dp. awesome.
5:48- dash INTO the fireball… this game is really hard to watch for me Dx
6:04- No punish. And I have about 17 things i can punish with on a whiffed FA
Summary of Game 3- Fuck my execution. Need to work on that. Also WHIFF PUNISHING!!! DX
watching this makes me wanna cry.

Game 4
6:24- … whiff punishing…
6:32- FA’d right in front of me and I did nothing. PUNISHING
6:38- Trading wakeups again. ate a free combo.
6:43- After my third time of eating a OS for backdashing on wakeup, I should of learned by now. didnt.
6:50- …yup. Execution.
6:58- random jump in. Ate DP. Again. for the third time…
7:08 -Starting another round with Neutral SJC? brilliant
7:19- dashing into ryu’s cr.MK space again.
7:25- Should of buffered poke into something useful.
7:30- WTF was that combo?!
7:34-idk whether I should of kunai’d or not, but I shouldnt have press buttons after
7:36- Eating another OS. I think I go away with on in the first round but its no reason to think I could get away everytime.
7:41- Jump in kunai. really…
Summary of Game 4- Stop jumping in, betting execution and punishing. stop eating shit to can easily avoid, and stay out of the cr.mk zone.

Game 5
8:06- Ate another jump in punish. Well done.
8:16- Too much dp’ing. 5 frame ex dp is not a good tool to GTFO
8:31-Froze up.
8:40- Oh wow, Ima scrub…
8:46- cr.mk space…
8:51-no punish
8:53-Execution!
8:54- pressing buttons after being -4. again. brilliant.
8:56-shitty punish and after jump in. no mix up potential and ate a dp for my troubles.
8:59. EX KAZAGIRI IS NOT A GOOD WAKEUP TOOL
Summary of Game 5- DP’s killed me. execution came back to haunt me. stop jumping in . better punishes.

Set Summary/Checklist to fix
-Stop jumping in on people who will AA you.
-Focus on better punishing, especailly with ibuki, who can lead to her #1 game
-Speaking of which, my #1 is ass. Get a scarier vortex(not that i had many chances to use it)
-EXECUTION. so easy to fix.
-LK. Tsumuji is okay to use. be smarter on what you do after though.
-Ryu especially, dont get into the cr.mk space if the opponent doesnt let you. stay right outside of it. also, respect his overall zoning
-BE PATIENT. you chances will come. and when they do…
-Captialize better. on the few chances you’ll have against good players.
-up your vortex. its weak and almost non-existence. Review your options per character and make decisions accordingly.

If I missed anything, please let me know!

I have taken the feedback from the previous videos and tried to use it to shape my game play. Its not pretty lol but I have tried to look at the game from a different perspective. I have had some good matches but sometimes I feel I could have a better understanding that will probably just take time to adapt too. The video has some matches where I felt that I left a lot of opportunities empty. I think I also need to do more with anti-air attacks. Thank you for any suggestions.

I put my notes on the mingo vs samifish fight. please tell me if i missed anything, or add your own input. again, thanks to mingo for letting me play against him!

Self critique:

disclaimer: East coast to West coast connection on AE PC.

game 1 round 1
0:00-0:10 - purposely walk back and throw some jab fireballs to gauge your reaction. You slide, I react with a dash into FA to catch any button presses. Nothing happens so I take the frame advantage with a simple blockstring, cr.LP + cr.LP+cr.HK option select, but forgot that sweep option select doesn’t work on Ibuki.

I sit there dumbfounded for a few seconds, then walk back and return to “chuck fireballs mode” (thereafter known as default mode). This mode I basically autopilot and throw random fireballs, cr.MK, and look for horribly spaced slides or random jumps/EX neckbreakers/etc.

After hit with a slide (without realizing I was hit), I assume I am positive and stick out cr.MK xx fireball to get you off.

0:15 - try to whiff punish obvious slide with sweep, but online lag does not permit. Random jumpin afterwards.

0:24 - slight adaption with a cr.LK walk up cr.LP xx cr.HK option select. Looking back, doesn’t seem like it should work, but somehow it did lulz.

0:27 - mistime safe jump because sweep was hit on later active frames.

0:30 - blocking a st.MK, I stick out cr.MK xx fireball and return to default mode because I know it is minus on block.

0:33 - semi fake fireball with whiffed cr.LP. Big meterless punish into dash up and wait, expecting a reversal of sorts. You do a bunch of random shit and I get a free punish.

game 1 round 2
Start round with same default mode + whiffed normals to fake fireballs, because you have meter and I already realized you either have crap reactions or simply randomly guess with EX neckbreaker.

x-1:09 - I land a dp, dash up, and do nothing, expecting an EX dp (knowing you dp a hell of a lot).

1:10 - I inputted jab dp but lag saves you.

1:17 - I block 2 hit Tsumuji, and option select FA backdash in case you went for a third hit somewhere. At this point I’m content with just keeping you in the corner, and keeping super/ultra at the ready to punish any random shit you do.

1:32 - dropped combo into super. I have a good enough life lead. Just whiffing jabs to get you to do some random EX neckbreaker.

game 2 round 1
x-1:54 - Default mode again.
1:55 - you whiff a slide under a fireball, I charge FA again just like last game. I realize I’m a bit too far to do anything with that, so I dash up (bad idea at this range).

I get punished with an overhead into dropped combo into random buttons. I go back to default mode.

1:57-2:22 - a bunch more default mode.

2:27 - you push way too many damn buttons, so I’m like why the fuck not, random fierce dp.

2:29-2:42 - rest of round default mode.

game 2 round 2
x-2:55 - default mode.

2:55 - I was looking for a whiffed slide, and thought you did it, so I swept. After missing a sweep, I seem to autopilot jumpin.

3:12 - basic jumpin into blockstring solely to build super.

3:15 - same slide and lvl 2 FA to catch any button presses. I release and backdash, waiting for EX dp.

x-3:30 - bunch of random shit by me that I can’t even explain.

3:30 - LK Tsumuji easy for an Ibuki veteran to spot and punish with super. Round is pretty much over.

3:34 - walk up and block next to you, waiting for you to do a dumb EX dp. You don’t do it, so I just mash dp for chip anyways.

game 3 round 1
3:45-4:00 - bunch of random autopilot by me.

4:00 - thought I could recover in time to autocorrect dp. Didn’t quite work.

4:08 - exact same setup you did on me 5 seconds ago. Absolutely no adaptation from me and I just autopilot cr.MK here again.

4:12 - safe jump into option select ultra. Didn’t quite work. Should have just option selected HK tatsu instead.

4:19 - not sure wtf that was lol.

4:25 - empty jump into delayed crouch tech, expecting EX dp again. I should have just safe jumped and option selected HK tatsu.

rest of round - autopiloting.

game 3 round 2
4:46-4:52 - default mode. Too careless with fireballs.

4:53 - I discovered the EX neckbreaker unblockable. I know exactly what it looks like and how to escape it.

4:55-5:32 - bunch of random.

game 3 round 3
5:36-5:38 - no fucks given. Walk up and see what your reaction is. You jump, I dp. Dash up into block again, expecting EX dp.

5:44 - easily realized the messed up MK cd attempt. Expected a superjump to maintain pressure and had my dp at the ready knowing it will not be safe.

5:50 - tried to whiff punish your sweep. Lag does not permit. After a failed sweep, I flowchart jumpin again.

5:57 - horribly unsafe meaty fireball. You could have U2-ed this.

5:58-endround - content with keeping you in the corner with my life lead.

game 4 round 1
6:20-6:29 - default mode.

6:30 - I actually tried to dp here but mash fail.

6:36 - you push too many damn buttons, get off me.

restofround - default mode.

game 4 round 2
7:07-7:29 - default mode.

7:30 - too many fucking buttons. Tried to mash dp here but fail.

7:32 - HK tatsu expecting random FA.

7:34 - no fucks given.

7:36 - you like to wake up with shit and you have no meter. I expected backdash and caught it with HK tatsu.
edit: this was not an option select.

7:39 - back to default mode.

game 5 round 1
7:53-8:14 - default mode, with a little more autopilot.

8:15 - empty jumped this time because I thought you were going to EX dp again, and the sweep was hit in later active frames (too damn lazy to time a proper safe jump).

rest of round - default mode

game 5 round 2
8:40 - lag saves the day.

8:46 - expected backdash since you had no meter.

8:48 - the beginning of no more fucks given.

8:49 - went for f+HP, expecting a backdash.

8:51 - no fucks given.

8:54 - expecting FA.

8:56 - was supposed to be autocorrect dp, but ended up looking like less fucks given.
