Watched the first two matches, here’s what I saw:

1) Doing stuff on wakeup other than block. I mean, sure sometimes you can try DP or dash or something, but not almost every time. It’s ok to stay put.

2) Always moving and doing something. Again, it’s alright to just take a bit to think instead of dashing and pressing buttons. That Bison was just doing stuff and you were getting hit. I’m not saying to sit and crouch block all day, but find a happy medium.

3) Weak punishes. I’m still working on this myself, but cr.HK xx st.HK by itself is not a good enough punish to deter someone from doing something dumb. If you are going to use that target combo, make sure you at least do something after (SJC dash, super jump, whatever stays safe-ish).

4) TC4 vs crouching Ryu. Bad idea, use cr.LP st.MK or st.MP st.MK on him.

5) Mashing throw. I see you pressing throw like crazy. It’s better to eat a throw than a combo from your opponent (some situations differ due to unblockables). Don’t crouch tech unless you feel a throw coming.

I’m still learning myself, so if something I mentioned is wrong, someone correct me. ^^

Here’s an hour long video of my last stream, played against some Zangief and Akuma players mostly. If anyone wants to critique my losses, I’d appreciate it.

http://www.twitch.tv/trogdor0102/b/367472769
I think the first post of this thread needs a disclaimer, that says you should try and give yourself a critique before asking for a critique, so we can get insight into what you yourself think, instead of just the supplied match videos.

We want you to be able to think by yourself, and build strong analytical skills. Something like that old “teach a man to fish” adage.

Hey guys thinking about having ibuki as my secondery would love some crit on her.

I know im quite shit with her atm but ive only been playing her for about 2 weeks now.

These videos are old (about a 1/2 a week) and I am a bit better now, Better slide ranges, oh linking better more mixups (s.mk to dash…etc)

But any tips would be appreciated and if you see some BIG flaws im doing I would love for you to point them out

Here is the last sesh I had with just her IBUKI GAMEPLAY and here is the last gameplay I had with her at the start but then went to play other characters IBUKI GAMEPLAY AT START

Apprerciate the time guys!
Watched a bit of the first video, I’d suggest not so much jumping at a Dee Jay on his wakeup unless it’s a safe jump from Neckbreaker or something he wouldn’t really be able to react as fast to (forward throw HK dash instant kunai).

Against Ryu, I use Ultra 2 for fireball/sweep/max range cr.MK fireball punishes. Ultra 1 just isn’t that great in that matchup, there’s not a whole lot you can do (minus gimmicks of course) except for punishing his sweep safe jump.

I’d learn st.MP st.MP st.MK NB as a punish combo (works on all but Ryu and Ken, works on them if their hit animation doesn’t reel backward) or Tsumuji loops if you can blink them. Also, do full TC4 (2 hits on MP) if you can.

Of course, learn the timing of instant kunai setups so you don’t whiff them. I felt it every time you missed them (I still do from time to time ^^).

Other than that, not bad.
Just saw the first video. Some tips:
1. Kunai vortex doesn’t work on DeeJay. He can get out with regular upkicks and hits Ibuki with EX upkicks. Keep that in mind when you fight better DeeJays. Use other okizeme options like safe jumps.

2. To me, it looks like you’re trying to use her U1 like a grappler’s ultra. Ibuki’s U1 is a 2 frame grab, so anyone that’s not pressing buttons while you do an empty ultra can jump out of it after the flash. Use U1 to punish moves that are -1 on hit or block or punish those that press buttons if you make some reads.

3. Recommend using U2 for the Ryu matchup since it has full projectile invincibility which can be another tool to shut down his fireball zoning and punish blocked sweep.

4. Go for more neckbreaker knockdown than tsumuji after your hit confirms. It’s better for vortex setup and more okizeme options plus more damage.

unless im a hardcore derp, in the options menu i have it set to points off, but that only turns the points off during the actual match but not before the match during the vs screen. which to me is still rather pointless because it still shows the points.

ill have to check the options again, because i could be derpin out but, im sure ive checked it before. unless this is a new feature for the disk ver of AE 2012 vs the dlc ver of 2012

A little more than. It would greatly help if you also posted your own critique, and maybe perhaps some insight into what goals you had, what you were thinking at the time, etc.

here are some matches between me & my friend… please point out things that i’m doing wrong (non-execution related). like…bad habits, bad strategy, bad timing on kunai/jump ins, bad normals i’m using.

it’s a really bad video…so…don’t facepalm too hard :frowning:

First match vs Seth:

0:14 Pressing sweep mid-combo. Not a good idea.
0:29 Not really any reason to jump in here.
0:31 Be careful using Tsumuji low enders on block.
0:33 Nice air throw.
0:36 Again, no real reason to jump in at him. He was cornered and you can pressure/AA him as long as you stay on the ground.
0:41 Pressing sweep again after his combo.
0:43 When you’re jumping in (using this sparingly of course) use any of Ibuki’s target combos to break them focusing like this. It will also catch them if they only block the first hit high and then low block.
0:57 Decent opportunity to jump since he wouldn’t have a lot of time to block/AA you without doing something risky (I think). You also managed to land a counter hit and almost combo which is good.
1:26 Good eye on the focus and using TC10 to try and break it.
1:32 But using that here when it hit and with no followup, you would have been better off doing a normal BNB combo.
1:54 Nice AA on his wall jump.
2:20 Mashing DP like that is sometimes a good idea, you did have the meter to FADC it.
2:23 You should have chilled out a bit to block here. Play extremely careful when you’re in the corner and close to stun like this.
2:32 Not sure about this wakeup Ultra 2. Never a good idea. EX Kazegiri FADC would have been better if it wouldn’t whiff.

vs Akuma:

3:08 Getting counter-hit pressing sweep again.
3:21 Not sure about overhead into sweep since it doesn’t combo without counter-hit and not a good way to use it. I understand the thought behind high then low, but there are better ways to do that.
3:28 Pressing sweep again but this time it lands. Good that it did (although mistimed kunai afterward). Just be careful with spamming sweep since it’s very bad on block.
3:35 Another bad timing/spacing kunai. You’ll get there with time though (luckily you didn’t get DP’d again ^^)
3:44 TC10 for no reason again. If you feel like using it, learn to SJC dash afterward. My personal recommendation is to forget all about that until waaaaaaay later.
3:54 You did a nice slide under the fireball here and were in a good position to bait his sweep and U2 punish him (under the assumption that he wouldn’t cancel sweep into U1 since I never see it online).
4:07 Sweep again during a blockstring. It is working out against Akuma since he is mis-spacing his cr.MP cr.MP stuff. Just pointing it out so you don’t get complacent with that RH button.
4:08 Another bad kunai. Again, don’t worry about this, it comes with time and practice.
4:35 Another TC10 with no followup.
4:39 Blocked sweep with no punish. Again, assuming he doesn’t know about U1 sweep cancels.
4:45 Jumping in here and losing the round for it.

Second match vs Seth:

5:08 Noticing that you rarely build a little meter when you’re full screen with nothing else to do. A quick neutral/back jump kunai or LK Tsumuji for meter is always good if you have down time.
5:20 No punish on Seth’s DP.
5:38 Buffering EX Neckbreaker or just reacting to this Sonic Boom was the best option. In general if you can get away with it, focusing projectiles is almost always good so you can get free ultra meter. Just be careful while you’re regaining your grey life.
5:50 No reason to throw out EX Neckbreaker here. Reacting > guessing.
6:34 Using TC10 to punish his Hyakuretsukyaku. At that range, I would have opted for st.MK into either Tsumuji or Neckbreaker.

Other general thoughts:

Limit your jump ins.
Use sweep a bit more carefully.
Good anti-air reactions, although I saw a few times where cl.st.HK and cr.HP would have been better options but that will come with practice.
Kunai timing/spacing needs work.
Punishes need work.
You don’t seem to go too crazy trying to knock them down in general which is good.

That’s all I’ve got for now. If anyone has anything to add/change, feel free.

omg, thanks! i’ll rewatch the vid while reading your comments and jot down some notes as a self reminder for the future.

both my friend and i noticed how many times i sweep during blkstring, it’s SO DUMB…i started doing it when he started to stop his blk stirngs early to FA. I do it because i really wanted to punish his FA. any other way to do this? or just block the FA and continue to be pressured?

i can punish sweep with u2? does it need to be a certain distance?

i want to limit my jump ins too, but i have trouble doing any kunai/mixup setups after a forward throw/sweep. i jump in, in hopes of landing a bnb into neckbreaker

Next time please supply us with a self-critique so we can get idea of what you were thinking, and what you think your flaws are/were.

Akuma’s sweep is U2 punishable at any range, but he can cancel his sweep into his U1 once your ultra flash is finished and catch you.

When I do a vortex setup, I try to act like it’s going to be blocked/escaped and react to the hit if it happens.

I agree with Mingo, self-critique helps a lot.

Alrighty then…

Lets gets torn apart… Bit By Bit.

I played a longish set with Mike “Mike Ross” Ross on PC, and this was the result. The games were all picked at random, I literally closed my eyes and picked them.

[details=Spoiler]For some needed information, and a little self critique…
The games where also ok in terms of lag, some HUGE lag spikes here and there, but nothing too major.
I need to completely stop his anti-airs every time. I wasn’t looking for them half the time, because I wasn’t expecting someone like him to CONSTANTLY jump. But, damn…
Before you say “stop jumping in so much” he has no anti-airs. Or barely any for that matter. I only got smacked out of the air by his Honda.
He also doesn’t option select anything, it just so happens that he learns that he has to after about 6 games (which was shown in this case). I went unpunished on A LOT of wake up backdashes.
Some matches did lag, but meh.
I also dropped a TON of set ups, combos and vortexes, I seriously need to perfect that first, then work on footsies. I can’t really go anywhere if I can’t capitalize from my footsies game.
The matches were all pretty close, but he kept lucking out, I would always drop my combo or set up and he would always capitalize from it.
I also autopilot tsumuji loops, always. Even against Blanka. But then again, I don’t want to knock him down all the time and then autopilot hard.
I need to work on some of my combos patterns, for some reason I like to c.lk, into s.mk alot… on hit.
Also, I don’t know the Blanka match-up.[/details]
