IaMP - Immaterial and Missing Power - Touhou Suimusou - GGPO-style Netplay

yeah, Tazu’s patch came out about a month ago, it’s on Tasofro’s webpage. It speeds up the game a little and adds Cirno. Meiling also has better damage output, but they haven’t touched her projectile density :frowning:

In every freaking thread I visit…

?/10

search a little harder. maybe read this whole topic again for hints.

C-block was pretty boring save for matsuda vs saku, which was awesome. The rest in the block were pretty much filling the slots in this tournament

[edit] I just finished writing a basic guide for Yuyuko, if anyone is interested. Grab it here:

see if you can find it

i swear to god why do i get all the winners

gonna go play sf4 instead now god

if only, right? but she is THE STRONGEST so i guess she’d unbalance the game with Jin re-freeze combos and shit.

finished watching d-block. Hagoromo’s matches were pretty interesting to watch, can’t wait to see his matches against the better players. (I’m not watching finals before commentary is out)

I have played against the guy myself too, results were 2-5 in his favour. Good times

that booster thing is a really cool program. it does some weird stuff sometimes though, like just dashing at you on wakeup or doing slow bullet moves right in your face.

just out of curiosity how hard is it supposed to be?

like for example the ST AI is hard to beat without exploiting programming holes. then you have something like melty arcade which is pretty much training mode with a moving target.

It’s not that great. The learning isn’t exactly perfect or optimal in any realistic way. I’m not really sure where it learned some things. Like, I’ve had it, using Yukari, just sit there point blank doing 2C over and over again until it drains itself. Which whiffs at that range. It’s funny, but pretty braindead.

The biggest problem is it has no clue how to deal with bullet pressure properly: Try picking Patchouli and then just mashing on f.a and tornadoes all day long. It has no idea what to do about it. Overwhelm it and you’ve as good as won.

Despite this, because of the way it works, it still plays a bit more ‘human-like’ than most AI and doesn’t require mechanics abuse to beat, so it’s decent practice on real pressure strings that actual players use. More or less. It does depend a lot on the character you give it, so I usually prefer having Booster use Sakuya or Yuyuko.

The Booster is fine for learning the game up to a point and practicing setups and combos in real situations. Practice mode doesn’t get you far in this game because most of the openings don’t happen on a dummy standing still; they come as a result of moving around and getting punished.

Bracket E has been finished, featuring SYO’s Marisa and Ame’s Yuyuko. Both players are more defensive in nature and SYO’s style varies quite a bit from Darkman’s, in case people wanted to see other ways Marisa can be played.

Wow, okay, so you wanna get spoonfed before you even play the game. God help you once you actually play. I’m feeling generous this morning so here’s some pointers.

 1. You got trolled. 1.11 is the current patch. Tazu is a player and Patch is short for Patchouli, who is a character. If you had gone to the wiki at all, the front page tells you what the current version is. There has not been an update for about three years; the game we have now is what is being played.

 2. Booster is completely explained on wiki; in fact, it has its own page here linked right off the main page. Don’t bother making your own pack, Armando’s has a year’s worth of Japanese tourney replays in it already. That’s sufficient for what it’s used for.

If you couldn’t figure those things out the game itself is probably going to be incomprehensible for you. Every question you ask is going to be answered on the wiki in some form; I suggest you read closer and actually pay attention to what’s on the screen. Thanks for participating though.

Bracket F will be done tonight, featuring EXT’s Suika (drunk girl) and Misumi’s Reimu (shrine maiden).

Tohgeki 4 replays will also be going up.
The tournament is smaller this time (only! 75 or so people), and honestly a lot of big name gaps.
All the scrubs moved the SWR but a lot of the BIG names also aren’t present so it evens out.
It’s pretty solid play I guess from a lot of named mid-level players that I recognize but I don’t really find that notable; there aren’t that many S+ class matches to follow.

It shouldn’t bluescreen your PC so you should be good!

Wow I’m really enjoying watching those matches with the commentary…
Very good job!

Bracket F is up, featuring EXT’s Suika and Misumi’s Reimu. EXT plays a cleaner, more “orthodox” Suika than Kai while Misumi has a very aggressive Reimu that reminds me a lot of how HeartNana used to play her.

I’ll begin doing semis next week. Thanks for watching guys.

I liked watching misumi play. Playing that style Reimu is why I liked iamp in the first place. Watching these makes me wanna play more. Thanks for the shoutouts lol. 2B XD

Big ups for the tourney with commentary. I love watching shit like that when you’re trying to learn a game. Starcraft commentaries are fun as hell to watch too, even if you only barely play it.

I just wish you could see the players like you do in Starcraft. I bet that guy in the second match was crying like the SC player named “Baby” did after he lost.

Previous commentaries I did were more for color since they were for the people who already played. Since I’m releasing this set for a general audience I figured I’d go more into straight commentary and try to explain a bit of what’s going on. Hopefully it makes a bit more sense now.

I wish they’d somehow backwards-release SWR characters in IaMP. I like Tenshi and Reisen so much, but I don’t like SWR nearly as much as I liked IaMP.
