IaMP - Immaterial and Missing Power - Touhou Suimusou - GGPO-style Netplay

iamp casuals went down at digiops tourney in michigan yesterday

i, unfortunately, did not have much time to play since i made it to the finals for both SF4 teams and singles. did get beat up by greats a couple times while playing on pad…hopefully i’ll be able to get in more next time.

What do IaMP players think about Daemon Bride using IaMP mechanics?
I mean other than “OMG how dare they copy!” and "OMG no touhou characters why should I care!"
Does the gameplay make DB interesting for you?
I think that the thing that limits IaMP the most is the usual “not enough crowd->no arcade->not enough japan hype->no console->no world hype->not enough crowd” circle of doom.
DB on the other hand can turn out somewhat popular. Animu Fighter players will be willing to give this game a shot, and you’ll get to play a popular game that will put your IaMP skills to good use.
You can even see it as a “spiritual successor” in a very weird way.
What do you guys think?

I think the world needs more iamp clones and less gg clones.

Simply having grazing mechanics doesn’t really make it much of a clone or anything. It’s not just the grazing, but the cancel tree that IaMP’s got going for it that makes it what it is. DB’s cancels look very different, so the flow is consequently also pretty different. Like it looks very limited, which fits with the faster bullets and larger overall arena. Watching match videos doesn’t show a lot of similarity in overall flow to IaMP, though I do see a lot of SWR in there. (I’d go as far as to say it looks like SWR without all the stupid shit that makes the game depressing to play, but we’ll see once people figure out the game better.)

That being said, I’m actually very interested in it as the midscreen game looks pretty fun and diverse. Sadly, the odds of me actually being able to play it some time this century are fairly slim ATM.

I do think that more fighter developers should try out different mechanics more than they do. Too many get stuck in the whole “there’s only one way to make a fighter” rut.

I actually find it interesting that other fighters are using the mechanic and hope that Doujin Bride can be a gateway for more people to play IaMP.

On the other hand if the port is as good as the AH2 port was then yeah, forget it. But I get the feeling Examu was focusing more on this game while rolling around in the dirty money of otakus who bought into the Arcana franchise.

I agree with myself. The Marvel analogy stands.

In other news, I continue to fail HJC off bullets, especially when practicing Marisa punishes and the j.b loop. Hopefully will get it soon. I have the ideas to pull mixup and what not, but my hands are just not executing. I might try playing on stick.

AlterGenesis, we are apparently fated to never have a match. I blame my router.

on the topic of other fighter mechanics, more games need to incorporate D button dash. Makes movement so much easier, heh.

Agreed. Then again if I had to choose between an attack strength or the D button, I’d probably choose the attack strength instead.

I have a tutorial video coming. It is taking very long to encode.

It will talk about fuzzy guards.

This ended up being much, much longer than I expected.

Helpful stuff, thanks! I would only suggest that you edit the title to something like “Stagger/Fuzzy Guard tutorial” since it ended up focusing more on the former.

This game is fucking awesome to watch, too bad I’m horrible at it. When I get my stick maybe I’ll give it a real shot.

it’s awesome to watch, but way more awesome to play.
Not many people play the game with a stick, pads and keyboards are way more popular.

Learning the general flow, how to cancel stuff smoothly and move doesn’t actually require much execution at all. It’s only a matter of getting used to it.

Don’t be afraid, just pick your pad, go over to #iamp and start having long sets with the other newcomers, or why not one of the older players if you want a complete massacre

beats and krad: how dare you bump the swr topic over the iamp one

nobody plays that game seriously on srk, have fun convincing people to play a lolifighter where the game decides you randomly stop blocking

Done. I was going to do it anyways since I veered way the hell off-track. I might do a tl;dw version of the tutorial later, but I think I should probably tackle my idea for Character Primer videos first.

Here’s a vid I made awhile ago with most of Yuyuko’s situational combos as well as a couple ways to use her best spellcard supers:

If you’re not an aspiring Yuyuko player it could be a good example of how situational combos work in IaMP.

Also, DigiOps was a lot of fun, but we only had my laptop and half the iamp players who said they would go didn’t show up cough

good stuff greats, that pretty much covers all the combos yuyu needs

Made a video showing about a third of Youmu’s combos. Gonna do two more videos to cover the rest of the stuff maybe tomorrow. Maybe.

Great stuff, info, and hype about this wonderful obscure gem. I’m from MA, looking for offline matches. Quick question, all the information is applicable for the newest patch as well?

The game itself has not changed since 2005; the way people play it has far surpassed all expectations back then. All the information in the wiki is current for 1.11.

I’m going to start playing around with this again. SWR was fun back when I thought it had competitive potential. :<

For some reason, my keyboard won’t let me cancel my bullets into super jumps (which is pretty much vital for playing properly) I do the inputs, but nothing comes out. I can do them just fine by themselves. Is there any way to fix this?
