No offense man…but if you think UMK3 is the most broken MK you str8 up don’t know what you’re talking about. Don’t play the SNES version btw; play it on MAME (or in the arcade.)
As for the initial question, I think others have already covered it. IMHO there just aren’t enough players to warrant such, and getting all of them in one place at one time seems to be somewhat difficult.
There are many more games (many of them being popular/being played competitively right now) that are much more broken than UMK3 too…
It doesn’t surprise me to hear the fake ass comments that have been littering this thread, but there is one thing people have to realize. UMK3 and MKT have nearly a 50% top tier in both games. Out of 23 characters in UMK3, about 10 of them are usable to some level in competitive play, others still have to work harder towards the bottom of that specific tier, but you will still see them used to some degree of success. In Trilogy, if you exclude the bosses and Chameleon, you have 32 characters, and about 15 of them are usable in competitive play. Remember that game MvC2? What is it, 56 characters? I can count the top tier on one hand. More than double the characters, nearly half the top tier, yet it’s still one of the most popular tournament games there is. Anything bad that is said about MK comes from pure, concentrated, ignorance.
You can’t really compare Mk and MvC2 for tiers in that way. MvC2 is entirely team based, the only time assists aren’t being used is when the player is on their last character. So a team of MSP is, in essence, a completely different character than a team of,say, Mag/Storm/Sent. If MSP=Ryu, then MSS=Ken (not based on gameplay or anything, just an example of what I’m trying to say). This ends up giving you much more than 4 top tier characters.
Although if you do this for every character, the ratio would be the same. You get the point though, right?
Regardless of how you compare the games doesn’t matter, what is fact is fact, there is a more usable character ratio in UMK3 than MvC2, based on each respective default system, and if anyone who doesn’t play it would take the time to, they would see that. MK is not the only broke ass game there is and everyone knows it. I can play and understand Capcom Fighters and MK, yet, it’s rare to find predominant Capcom players who can make the transition to MK. Why is that? Besides tiers in general, it’s a whole other world of a game that a lot of people don’t have the aptitude to get into. “Oh the block button is dumb, oh the run button is dumb.” Small words, from small beings trying to attack what they don’t understand. For all the people who complain about autocombos, then stop playing vs games and stop using V-ism in A3.
What vids have you been watching? Go to cyberfanatics if you want to see good KOF matches. High level KOF matches have more jumping than the average fighter, but its mostly the quick low jump to keep pressure on.
So wait, there’s 4 top tier characters in Marvel, and you’re comparing that to 10 USABLE character in UMK3? Now don’t get me wrong, I generally respect the stuff you say, but I gotta call bullshit on this. If you want to compare TOURNAMENT USABLE characters, Marvel has about 30, UMK3 has 10. Marvel’s roster is not 3x the size of UMK3. As for the top tier of UMK3, I’d imagine that it’s 2-4 characters like most 2d fighters.
lets take a moment to reflect on mk gayness…mk1 consisted of the following…GET OVER HERE! WOOOOAAAAAAAWWWW!!! rinse repeat. Mk 2 consisted of…MELENA FLYING THROUGH THE FLOOR! FLAWLESS VICTORY! mk3 consisted of kabul kicking the shit out of you with ridculous combos only your mother knew existed. summary, mk should be burned inside and out and sent down to the pits of hell. gg.
10 usable characters in the top tier. There are only about 3 completely unusable to nearly unusable characters in the entire game for UMK3 and MKT for that matter seeing as that everyone who was added to MKT is usable, and added about 5 more top tier characters, and one God tier.
I can kinda understand the miscommunication on my wording, but please try not to read inbetween lines that aren’t there and/or put words in my mouth. It’s not bullshit, it’s just the way things are. People have to take the time learn about the games to find this stuff out. Doesn’t the main MvC2 community consider the top tier Cable, Sentinel, Storm, Magneto, and maybe 1 or 2 others? For the MK equivalent, we know who’s who as well. It’s not impossible for someone to beat Kabal, but I mean, Magneto having the option of infing on almost any hit, that’s kinda difficult to compete with.
Hanzo, I’m trying to figure out the best way to record if I can’t get someone to actually tape the matches. I might have to use MAME record input.
