"I Make Any Team Better." Official Hawkeye Discussion Thread!

i will be 100% honest, when i start hawkeye point i wiggle around and hit launcher and assist immediately at the start of the match almost every single match.

this will scare the FUCK out of people/guaranteed to hit them the first time because everyone thinks hawkeyes are gonna jump back and do arrows.

jump back-> wiggle around- launch or slide

sometimes i even do st.m flip just to be an asshole

i have hawkeye as anchor. he’s saved the game for me on numerous occasions. my team is zero/nova/hawkeye

with x-factor level 3, he is a monster. most people go for chip and arrow spam, but i prefer the rushdown game. go for grabs and crossups with hawkeye, because at this stage in the game, nobody expects it - hawkeye has been losing popularity since day 1, since he’s not a very easy character to play.

it’s when x-factor wears off and you find yourself assistless that you may be in trouble. with that said, i do find myself often stocked with 3-5 bars, and i’ll probably play the zoning game. when i have that much meter, i like to throw arrows (triple arrow in the air, speed shot on the ground) at the opponent. if they get even remotely close, i don’t want to risk myself getting air grabbed - so i’ll do kiss of fire (super scattershot) to push them back to the other side.
of all the popular anchor characters i’ve seen in tournament and casuals, i find that hawkeye shuts down doom VERY well. just don’t get grabbed and you’ll be fine. if he’s coming toward you, super jump away or use your kiss of fire super to push him back. doom players will get very frustrated. if he goes into the top corner of the screen and tries to throw projectiles, you can gimlet on reaction.

i don’t usually post in these forums, but i’d really like to see hawkeye players grow in popularity. i don’t like how hawkeye’s main bnb is still his day 1 MMHS relaunch combo. yeah, i know we also have the tiger knee cancel combo thing - but that’s only midscreen and i’ve only seen one person ever do it in tournament. hopefully this forum can progress somewhere as people pick up hawkeye.

Same here, except I do St.m + jam session > S. If it hits I just do a late super jump MMHS into relaunch MHS. On block I get to charge up at least 2 arrows and then cancel into whatever depending on the character, or I can dash back and then shoot arrows. Pretty much how I start out against every wolverine player since you can really shut down more of his options at that range. Super godlike in the footsies game too when you need to get them back.

Is there a video of an optimised hawkeye bnb with hidden missiles assist?

Hey saw you on the Norcal stream the other night, nice job.

But I think the reason people try then abandon Hawkeye is there’s more strategy to him than meets the eye.

Everyone has their own Hawkeye strategy but nobody uses everything in his arsenal. And that’s the way he’s supposed to be played. It’s like how some use Dormammu… FChamp is the only one who has unlocked his full potential. In any fight with Hawkeye you should be prepared to react to every situation with one of his arrows. If you just mindlessly spam, you could get burned. What makes him so great with XF3 it gives you the ability to spam with barely any consequences.

Is hawkeye on point viable? I ran him on point a couple games and just got bullied into the corner then realised I pretty much have no way to get out quickly which is a luxury I have with all my other characters. That seems to be his main weakness, the fact that he has nothing to alter trajectory in his jumps and you have to commit to super jumps to really get anywhere safely but then that gives your opponent time to wavedash over to you landing and mix you up.

I run him with Haggar lariat for a get off me but its so awkward to confirm off of it seems.

You can cancel blocked normals into qcb h and flip over their head under the cover of an assist.
For hawkeye on point,i think you need either doom or vergil on the team to offset his damage issue and their assists also work really well with his keepaway.

Quick question which has prolly been answered so I apologize ahead of time. Does anyone have general frame +/- of his qcb moves cancelled at the earliest frame point blank? For instance s.mp xx qcb (any button + any arrow).

How do you know which straight forward projectiles to use with Hawkeye. I use him on point so not really talking about x-factor use.
But what determines whether hawkeye should roll speed shot, Piercing Bolt or Triple Arrow.
Triple arrow specifically I don’t see the use for. Its Minus on block and does less chip than Piercing but I see a lot of top players still using the move. Why?

Most of the time you’re gonna wanna use Speed Shot on the ground. Its speed, combined with durability, combined with being safe in block makes it very spammable. I use Piercing Bolt when somebody tries to lazer battle me on the ground, i.e. to shut up Dooms who think they can straight Plasma Beam. Aerial Piercing Bolts are good to throw out just for the chip.

You’re right, grounded Triple Arrow is actually kinda bad on paper, but I feel it has its use. It’s far and away the easiest hit-confirm into Gimlet. People shouldn’t be pressing buttons when Hawkeye is fullscreen, but if you land an aerial Triple Arrow, s.H > Ground Triple Arrow > Gimlet does nice damage. I also throw out grounded Triple Arrows when I’m looking to Gimlet punish an assist.

I guess triple arrow has an advantage over speed shot in that when you’re cornered you don’t have to roll towards your opponent.
I still hate how minus grounded triple arrow is. Piercing bolt at least pushes the opponent backwards on block. I also feel like piercing bolt has a better projectile hitbox. The only real disadvantage of piercing bolt is that its slower.

I can’t speak for everyone but I don’t find it particularly difficult to gimlet confirm any of hawkeye’s special moves. So I still don’t know why all the hawkeye’s I see use this move.

Because they’re anticipating incoming projectiles like beams or soul fists… Piercing Bolt blows through just about anything.

I figured I would go around and post this on character forums so folks can check it out:

<div class=“QuoteText”>^Dante/Hawkeye/Strider might work better for certain start-of-round shenanigans. Jam Session’s priority is a bit lacking when compared to Tatsu. Regarding Strider, he can still do damage without Ouroboros in XF3 if you do the Richard Nguyen Bird Bomb combo.</div>

<br><div>I was considering that team at the start of ultimate but the issue is damage, when dante is the character with the highest damage output on your team, I think your gonna have a serious problem.</div>

Any advice for an end match situation where both you and your opponent have XF? While Hawkeye is a monster in Lvl 3 XF, I am struggling if my opponent can activate as well and simply block the projectile spam. Aside from a H trick cross up attempt, I’m at a loss for how to open someone up in this situation.<br>

HA!!! Hawkeye IS THE ONLY REASON I play this game, I’ve literally not played a SINGLE Match since last January with out him…I run him on point with Dormammu and Sentinel. My friends always poke fun at me cause I am obsessed with him,…I have worked very hard to make Hawkeye my own. I know I have a really good Hawkeye…there’s been a running joke among players…Kill his Hawkeye and he’s free… I’m constantly working on you shouldy projectile in the game but is not considered a projectile itself…if timed right it cancels out Full Zero Buster. UTILIZE his mobility make it to where you are ALWAYS on the move…Zoning is his Strength, but his Trick Shot flips great for side switch, cross up, and you should ALWAYS be canceling into either one depending on situation or where you want to go…AFTER a blocked hit. Repeated ST Mxx Poison Tip Lockdown is your go to close game 75% of the time, because most of the cast cant do much about out it due to his ST M…very few can handle this onslaught, if your push Blocked during it start doing Dashing Cancelled ST Fxx Poison tip, its 2 projectile simultaneously if you cancel like lightning and of course Ducking F…Getting into the rythm and using the correct Normal make the Poison tip assualt unbearable. Create your own “Arrow Sets” for each character…an Arrow set is 3-4 of Hawkeye different Arrow attacks specifically designed to handle THAT character specifically. Example…Here is a basic Anti Projectile Spammer Set…Jump Triple Arrow on your decent to spread out the arrows the ST F for the single arrow shot cancelled into M Trick Shot (roll) Speed Shot. when done and spaced correctly it’ll be a wall of arrows and and the speed shot to pierce through the point char to hit the asssit…making it an excellent anti spammer. Mix and create your own…

So I’m planning in playing Hawkeye second…how is his synergy with strider backing him up? Also, how does he fare vs magneto and other zoning characters (dorm, strange, Morrigan, Trish, etc)

I’d be super appreciative if someone could help out with these questions

So…What point characters can deal with Hawkeye / Missles? I run Morridoom or Dormadoom. Kinda depends. I feel like Hawkeye / Missiles beats both of those shells. Opinions?

I run Task Spencer Hawkeye and i personally enjoy playing him last. Him with xfactor 3 i end up setting a few thing up midscreen. due to the Vast amounts of anchor dooms in this game he is a def stay. But it has gotten to the point where i am trying to keep a solid ground game with him. I am trying to not spam his assist repeatedly so, What are good time to call his assist with my characters?

If you see Doom snapping his fingers, call Triple Arrows, if you have good reactions, you should be able to stop most of them from coming out (you can also snipe out a good amount of other assists). Besides that, call them to assist Task while zoning, making a nearly endless stream of arrows; you can also use them to cover your approach and plug into combos. With Spencer I don’t really know, since Task’s arrows would be better to help him approach.
