I like SF3 2nd impact soundtrack better than 3rd strikes

Yeah, I’ve been trying to locate a copy of that soundtrack but I’m having trouble with the usual ways…rare indeed…

EDIT: that 3rd Stike soundtrack is everywhere, no luck with NG.

ShadowHaxor.net has the OST for NG and 2I IIRC.
…and I think the arrange OST is there as well.
Urien is usually my main in 2I, his specials may not be that good, but his normals are OK.
His QCF+P is an interesting anti-air that works similar to using 12’s NDL against a jumping opponent.

Do you know where on the site?

Then why do you guys hate MVC2’s soundtrack?

Because no one wants to be taken for a ride.

Net works fine now so I can finally access the site-

I think I read somewhere that in its stages of development, SSF2 was going to be on CPS1. So they might have had the music already done.

There’s this strange deep bell sound in SSF2/T’s PCM ROM that was never actually used in game as far as I can tell. Maybe they were planning to use it for that song but decided against it for whatever reason.

Those are definitely not the Genesis versions. They are even weaker than the “CPS1 New Challenger” music.

I’ll always hold a soft spot for Genesis version Guile theme in Hyper Fighting. I think it may be my favorite version…

I downloaded the NG AST sometime ago and the tracks are definitely weird and too different from the originals. I didn’t like some of the tracks, but most of them were good.

Like:

GOod Fighter (Ryu/Ken)
Jazzy NYC latin mix (alex)
Jazzy NYC (Sean)
Leave Alone rare (dudley)
Tomboy (minus the rap, I like rap but they kinda sucked) Elena
Crowded Street (yun/yang)
Sharp Eyes (ibuki)

The ones I didn’t like were:
Caveman (Oro, OST is better)
Get on a train (Necro, 2nd impact is much better)
Judgment Day (gill, OST is better)

I didn’t like the last three at first either, but owning the soundtrack for awhile, they grew on me. I think the thing is to try to accept them as their own thing, rather than simply as add-ons to the original songs.

Genesis HF music was good. Genesis SSF2 music was bad.

SNES was the opposite.

Tizoc–thanks for the links man. I’m going to listen to these while I work today.

Speaking of CPS1 vs CPS2 vs SNES vs Genisis I was wondering if anyone knew of a site that might catalog the different specs on these sounds chips. Something with a table to compare and contrast old school sound hardware would really be sweet to geek out to.

Off the top of my head:

CPS1: 8 Channels of FM + 4 Channels of PCM

CPS2: 16 Channels of PCM. CPS3 is the same as CPS2, as far as I can tell.

SNES: 8 Channels of PCM

Genesis: FM and PCM, don’t know how many channels.

I like the rap…but, that’s because I’m from “Chicago, Cook County”.

Another excuse to get the 3S trolls to come out.

I like 2nd Impact’s music a lot too but nothing beats the arranged 3S mix for me. I’d like the original 3S mix more if it wasn’t so low quality.

I feel the same way about SFIV’s soundtrack. A lot of the songs seem like rushed takes on what the music in the next SF movie would be like. It tries to be theatrical but there are only a couple songs that really stick out for me. Like the Thai stage’s track would fit well in an overseas spy action flick but it just seems monotonous and out of place with the pace of the game. There’s nothing about it that really sticks out. It just does enough to fit the background. At least if it had some kind of a beat to it it’d get things going a bit more for me. I’m also really dissapointed in the music selection for the diner stage. It doesn’t fit the background at all. The tune itself is ok as a generic dramatic techno track but it really doesn’t fit the North Memphis 3 Six and Lil Jon themed background. I wish Hideki Okugawa would have stepped in and did something nice to fit the more hip and crunk background.

I do like some of the remixes of the old SF2 tunes that are in the game though. Hopefully you’ll be able to listen to those during vs. matches as well.

I like the arranged New Generation soundtrack a lot. It was definitely made for listening to as opposed to a replacement for the original fighting music. Especially the later half of the soundtrack. As just plain listening music…it’s really good. There’s a few upbeat tracks in the beginning but it gets real chill towards the later half with Sean’s Jazzy NYC mix being just a bit more upbeat.

The answer to this problem is my remix. Seriously.

Some of 2Is music is better but not all of it. Some backgrounds are nice but not all of them. Like Ken’s backgrounds in both NG & 2I are just crap. Alex’s background is alright but I prefer his 3S background. His back alley background from NG wasnt that bad either. but the voices definitely suck and the sound quality too. If Ken kept the subway then Alex should get something from his previous games or maybe something better.

Maybe in 4th Contact we’ll look back at all the 3S goodness. Or not. I definitely do miss having people in the background like dudleys 2I. In fact in 3S theres only Remy, Dudley, Chun & maybe Oro/Sean who have people in their backgrounds.

BG’s in 3S dont match the game. Looks ststaic, and like the characters are just overlayed onto it.

I like the original…
