I agree. I like the music of all the games, but its just really got the classic feel to it on NG. I love Dudley’s theme on NG, and I love how the stage changed whenever you fought on Ryu/Ken’s stage (first on the paddywalk, then to the hotsprings), and it was so colorful. Only problem is Q isn’t in those games…
Wait, what am I saying? I’ve got a humogous backlog of fighter’s I’m playing, including Star Gladiator and Street Fighter EX3. I don’t have time for SF3!
But this thread makes it so tempting… You bastards.
Totally been meaning to check out Star Gladiator / Plasma Sword. There’s something about SF3 NG/SI that reminds me of the reason I got into fighting games. Like when I first saw the Blanka headbite in WW. That ‘I’ve never seen that before’ feeling. I gues 3S is a refienemnt in a lot of way–you know I finally realized what I want. A version SF3 that’s similar to the SF2 Hyper Fighting from the Anniversary Collection with all BG, Music, and multiple versions of the characters.
When I was living in La Habra, CA, I wasn’t close to an arcade (STILL am not, actually). However, I did live by a laundromat with an SF3:2I machine.
The first time I played it, I was blown away. The music was super slick. The graphics and animation were unbelievable. I was immediately sucked in by the slick intros before the fight, and seeing Alex stand over a battered and beaten Ryu never got old. That game drained loads of quarters out of me.
When SF: Anniversary Collection came out, I was pumped about owning SF3: 3S. It isn’t a bad game, but I don’t know, I felt kind of… Disappointed by it. The music wasn’t as good, the intros and conclusions weren’t nearly as satisfying, and maybe it was just because it was on the PS2, but 2I seemed smoother graphically. The one thing I will give 3S is that the voices for the most part were better (I liked how Alex had a New York accent. I preferred Ibuki’s old voice, though. In 3S, her high pitched screeching was irritating).
Visually and sonically, Third Strike is the least remarkable of the series. NG is the best, and 2I is pretty close to it. Though I’m sure I said as much a million years ago when this thread was first made.
The sprites are exactly the same sizes in all SF3s, any discrepancy is due to shoddy image scaling in console ports. eg. PS2 3S sprites are larger than DC’s even though it’s the same game.
So 2I has nicer backgrounds and a couple of better voice actors, I can’t figure out why posers tried to make it sound better than 3S just because of that. Music is too subjective to mean anything.
ps. butters is the only thing that prevents me from hating south park. also, damn @ galbadia.
Logically, a lot of the sprites and backgrounds are the same, but I dun’t know…for one thing, the player select screen and VS screens sap the life out of me compared to NG.
The NG VS screen has that intense music, the lightning striking, that colorful purple sky.
SI on the other hand has a bland blue and red screen.
And, where’s that beautiful stage Ryu and Ken shared in NG (with the colorful pink trees and the blue sky)? They took it out and replaced it with Urien’s lifeless, orange stage.
And, then some stages don’t change colors anymore like Dudley’s.
I don’t think we have any “posers” here trying to make is sound like it’s better than 3rd strike. The thread is about aesthetics and audio/visual impact of the game. It’s an important factor is good game design and we’re just comparing the different aspects of that.
I just went back an played a couple of games of both SI and 3rd strike. They’re both great. I just really appreciate some of the visuals in SI.
2I did had the best looking backgrounds, they were colorful and beautiful, 3s were just plain and boring.
I love the announcers voice and sound effects on 2I better. I never liked the mumbled announcer’s voice on 3s and the sound effects on 2I sounded loud and painful, kinda how Alpha 3 hit sounds on full blast Q-Sound!
