I definitely agree that 2I’s music is better than 3S’s. I also prefer 2I’s end of match screen with the victor delivering their win quote standing over the beaten up loser.
Yeah…Dudley’s song in 2I is probably my favorite. I love the soundtrack from the entire series and the soundtrack is the one of the main reasons why I like the 3 series (especially 3S). 3S is the game I grew up with so I just learned to like the soundtrack (already being introduced to a bit of urban music as a youngin). Everyone else was listening to Jay Z and Tupac’s “new” CD’s and I was listening to like Chemical Brothers, Adam Freeland and Junkie XL. I was already into house/techno music by the time the game came out.
First time I heard Ibuki’s theme in 3S I was like wow…this new SF game has some hot music. It was like DJ Krush came out and composed a song for the ninja. I couldn’t wait for the game to hit Dreamcast. I remember when I first rented the game…I didn’t even play it. I must have spent like 30 minutes just listening to the soundtrack. Jazzy NYC was such a beast song to me. The way Hideki Okugawa and gang were able to make an upbeat soundtrack seem so fitting in a SF game was to me amazing at the time. It was like I could dance and fight to it at the same time.
What I really like about 3S’s soundtrack though is that it has both an arranged and arcade mix. The arranged mix is definitely of higher quality. In the PS2 version…like the arcade release interchanges inbetween rounds which I thought was really unique for a fighting game. Listening to the arcade mixes of the game they are still very good and there are some instruments in the arcade soundtrack that are not in the arranged.
One real good example of how the arranged music sets the tone of the match is the arranged version of Crowded Street. (which is actually one of the songs that has carried over since the first SF3) It starts off real slow with the bang of a gong to signify that a fight is about to go down. The mix is mainly composed of traditional Chinese instruments with a James Bond theme. Then when the second round hits the music completely changes to a much more electronic based mix that signifies that things are gonna heat up after the first round. Then the final mix if you are still alive is a combination of both mixes in the final fight to the death. For me…it was really cool to arrange the soundtrack like that and definitely signifies why I love 3S’s music to this day.
Dudley song for 2nd Impact (the actual one, not the one erroneously labeled in this thread) was a rearranged version (I think) of the one in NG and is still quite good.
Songs to hear:
Leave Alone - Either is good but I prefer NG’s
The Flame- 2nd only
Good Fighter-Either or; doesn’t matter
Funky Bay-2nd only
Caveman - 2nd all the way. NG’s sounds almost sinister.
Nile-(preferably Gill’s) 2nd only
Crowded Street- (2i, preferably Yang’s)
Tomboy-2nd please (sex to your ears)
Giant Attack- 2nd only
Bottums Up - 2nd only
Get On a Train - Definitely 2nd
Jazzy NYC - Hah. There are three; two in NG and one for 2i. Take your pick
Sno Paolo - 2nd only I think it should be called “Sao Paolo”, but isn’t.
Also, I found the NG arranged album to be quite enjoyable (it has leave alone AND good fighter). They never made one for 2nd Impact, did they? Shame, really…
gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/s <— It’s all there.
Cuz u suck, obviously…
anyways, 2i is better overall in terms of presentation.
but 3s Urien and Q themes are top notch.
yea…alex sounds sooo gay “you cant escape!” and yun and yang sound like bruce lee, while dudley sounds like some drunk
All 3 of the SF3 games have beast soundtracks.
3s>2i
I aint a big fan of Hip Hop thus I like SF3 NG and 2I’s music better than the Rap almost inspired 3s.
That site is sexcellent.
Just got 2I soundtrack it aint bad at all. Anything jazzy with a beat is great!
I think all 3 of the soundtracks are superb, i cant really say which one i like more… Ive listened to 3s so much so im trying not to be biased.
Took the words right outta my mouth.
I definitely prefer 2I’s music over 3S, it gets me into the match more just like SF2’s music and thus I’m more enthusiastic when playing. I think that type of thing helps (it’s the very same reason I simply HAD make a custom mix for MVC2). I can’t think of a single song that I don’t like on 2I but there are only like 4 songs I can really get into on 3S:
-Ibuki’s Stage
-Necro/Twelve’s Stage
-Dudley’s Stage
-Q’s theme (which apparently can only be heard fighting shitty ass CPU Q, unless there’s something I don’t know about).
The other’s are okay but I really wish they would’ve kept the 2I versions instead wherever applicable.
I prefer NG’s music over 3S as well but not quite as much as 2I.
This would be one amongst the list of the reasons I’d opt for a Hyper SF3:
3S top characters vs non-nerfed 2I characters fighting to Elena’s 2I background = dope.:lovin:
Loved that tune, good post. the 3 series has had some real good tunes. ryu’s 3s round one music is my alarm every morning, and i still love it.
Most fighting game soundtracks aren’t very good, so it doesn’t matter.
eDit: K, so maybe it matters but I enjoy to play my own tunes when playing fighting games. XD
NG Remixes

These remixes of the SF3: NG themes are great. I love the remix of “Crowded Street” and the “Jazzy NYC” Latin mix.
I kept meaning to look for a thread like this. So it’s been over a year since anyone here was discussing this but I’ve been thinking about it everyday for some reason. I love Second Impact–way more that 3S.
It’s the whole presentation of the game. It just feels classy. And the graphics are way sharper than 3S. I have Double Impact on Dreamcast and the graphics are beautiful. But 3S–it just looks blurry and low res, even with that code you can put in startup to remove the shitty blurring effect 2I still looks better. The BGs in 3S just don’t have as much color or variety. Even in Anniversary Collection 3S looks kinda blurred. I just don’t get it, Capcom nailed it with the Double Impact collection, I just don’t know went wrong graphic wise for the 3S stuff.
When it comes to gameplay I also felt like it was easier to pull off moves and combos in 2I. I feel like everything got more strict in 3S. There are dudley and oro combos that I have no problem with in 2I but as soon as I jump into 3S I feel sloppy for some reason.
Sorry if all of this is old news–but I would love to see a Double Impact tourney. It would be cool to see a tourney without Chun for once too.
Once I get my own place out here in San Fran it’s on. Willl post in the Pacific NW thread.
Yeah 2I is closer to a classic SF game in presentation, backgrounds and BGM’s and such, I also like that aspect of it better than 3S. Too bad 3S has more content, it’s like with SFA2 and SFA3.
Yeah–it’s a shame there’s no way to get the best of both worlds without playing two separate games. I had mentioned another thread that it would be totally cool if SF3 got the rebalanced treatment along with incorporating all the old BGs and music.
I don’t need brand new HD graphics. SF3 has amazing graphics and the animation is incredible. And if SF2 HDR graphics are any indication of future graphical upgrades then I will totally pass. [Cammy–you look like bad fan art though Dhalsim looks so bad ass now].
Overall presentation of NG is really beautiful and colorful. The entire game has a different atmosphere than 3S.
But, I have to give credit to 3S because they adopted a theme that no other fighting games really approached. The whole hip-hop, urban motif gave the game focus.
And, then there’s Second Impact. Where color comes to die. Don’t know what happended there.
Music is still great, though.
Whoa. What? What’s wrong with the colors in SI? I think they’re fantastic–and quite similar to NG. Maybe I’m missing something here?
