Very well-done teaser. Looking forward to it!
I’m excited, and i really can not wait to see this.
I liked the more serious touch to the new trailer, and the explosive cheers followed the music perfectly. Shame I have to wait so long to see the real deal.
New trailer is awesome, epic in every sense of the word. I love how each shot of the players shows their determination, and really looks like it shows that each of them has a “reason” why they’re playing. beyond just wanting to have fun and that, y’know? Like Joe’s face at 0:37. You can tell he’s really in a whole other world, at that point, and he’s ready to play.
Music is great too, makes me feel like i’m preparing for a fight for my life. Good stuff man, can’t wait to see the full-length version. How long is the extended cut supposed to be?
I wonder what this trailer would be like set to the Karate Kid song “You’re the Best”.

Yeah, Ian the new trailer looks amazing.
Just wanted to jump on the train and say that the new trailer is really hype, and I can’t wait to see the final project. I was just thinking to myself the other day what was going on with this. Every penny of the donation was well spent.
That was fucking hype!!!
Just giving this a bump. Any new info or word on this? I searched the forums and couldn’t find anything.
Yeah, an update would be great.
Hey Guys,
Sorry for the lack of updates. So right now I’m in the process of editing the film so I can get it in shape for my composer Miles Mosley (www.milesmosley.com) to take a crack at it. I’m nearing the end of the film. After that I’m going to go back through and do some initial mastering before I hand it to a friend to do the final mastering, so that you’re not having to constantly adjust the volume as you watch the film (like last time). I’ll also be going back through adding animation and doing color correction. So I have some work ahead of me, but I’ll be hitting the release window (sort of…), which brings me to the next announcement.
You guys can get a sneak peek of the film in May at East Coast Throwdown in NJ, run by my friends John and Joe (http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=223424), I’ll be showing a preview of things from the feature-length cut.
Beyond that I have to apologize, because everything else is up in the air. Originally I had set the date for Spring 2010, because by that point the film will have been finished, but unfortunately the film festivals that are interested in I Got Next and that I’d like to apply to are opening submissions this fall, which means they will not be shown until Spring next year. Almost all festivals have a submission rule that if a film has a commercial release (e.g. on DVD, television, theaters etc.) it will not be accepted into the competition. So unfortunately I will not be able to release I Got Next on DVD this year, although you will have a few chances to catch showings of it. I’ll also try to do a few exclusive test screenings of the film online, that way I can get some feedback from you guys and you won’t have to wait a full year to see the final product. Again I’m sorry for the second? third? 40th? delay of the project, but I’m hoping bringing it to festivals first will bring more exposure to the film and ultimately to the community.
Also coming up in the future, a store, I know you guys expressed interest in t-shirts and stuff. So I’m working on getting that together.
Here are a few shots of things in progress:

Wow Ian, that is quite an update. I totally forgot all that awesome stuff happened since the short cut of Igotnext. This is definitely going to be hype, can’t wait.
Bummer…
Am I mistaken or was the movie originally being released for free online?
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to buy it on DVD, I’m just wondering why this change of plans happened…
the film will feel pretty irrelavent by then, considering it’s of footage 1 1/2 years old.
Well, the overall “Fighting Game History” (like all the legend of Tomo stuff) part of the film will always be relevant, but of course Evo 2k9 footage won’t be the most exciting part of the movie if it’s out in summer of '10 or later…
Well, the short cut was originally envisioned to be free, and it was released as a free product (which accounts for the unlicensed music and such). Now that I’m working almost full time on it (and I’ve brought on a composed) and it’s no longer a school project I’m looking to turn the film into a feature length property. Because I never originally planned to take the film this far I’m hoping to be able to recoup the money I’ve put into the project and if I can also launch a career out of the film that’d be spectacular.
So there are a few points to discuss here. First is the viewing audience. For people involved in the community, like you or me, this footage is already stale by now, since we watch streams every week, keep up with the forums, know what drama is happening with what players and know who won the most recent major. For an audience who is not as familiar with the scene, this will be brand new to them, and the stories of the players, let alone the EC and WC will be fresh and exciting.
Beyond that, I hope that this story, like any other good story is timeless, and not a piece of news, that once it is old is no longer relevant. I think an interesting analogy would be with the King of Kong. The King of Kong was shot over a 5 year period, and to me, it’s a timeless story. It’s almost three years old now, and Steve Wiebe has still been fighting for the number 1 score spot in Donkey Kong Jr. That fact, or the fact that Wiebe’s record at the end of the film was then beaten more than once, does not change the really powerful story that was crafted. So my point is, if the story and characters depicted are interesting and multidimensional, it shouldn’t matter whether or not it’s 6 months old, a year old or 10 years old.
^ good shit good shit good shit
will be worth it to travel to see if possible, if not hook it up with the online screening thanks <3
Holy crap, I’m in IGN.
Good luck with your project.
Ian Cofino is dope.
