i just finished it, and i got nothing out of it, but wong hates a 9-5, gootecks was bumming it up, so he decided to roll with sf4 to make something out of it because he was bummin it up, gootecks wants to take joe and mike ross on for the money ride, gootecks doesnt play games, and has little passion for gaming in general (his words), wong is god like, and some individuals want to ride the coat tails of the fighting game community to profit THEMSELVES, and not so much profit others. it would be one thing if a certain individual was looking to push for more tournaments with higher winnings, and not just be looking to seclude the sf scene to the “pro players”. haha.
good shit on the documentary though. i enjoyed the fact that it was made, and hard work was put into it, and besides seeing the same fucking faces as usual, and hearing the same, i want money, i hate working shit as usual, i would still give props to the documentary just on principle. listening to the two goobers talk now on i guess some after show shit. shout out to joe, i liked him the most in the documentary. gootecks was painted, and painted himself in the way that most people are still arguing about, which is a way most people aint fuckin with.
it was just a docu of a few dudes who play sf4, and how their ultimate goal is to get paid off this shit, so they dont have to live “normal” lives. okay. well, except joe, he seemed to be on the fence in the documentary, but the footage is a bit old.
Exactly. It was entertaining to us because we all share a similar passion for the game that those “few dudes” do so we could relate to how they were feeling. Take someone who doesn’t give a shit about Street Fighter, and they’ll just be thinking things like “WTF this Gootecks guy is a bum and fucked up his life to play SF4.”
Also, I showed this documentary to like 5 of my friends, and while we were watching it together, they kept asking me stuff like “Who’s that guy again?” “Which coast is he from?” “Did he win or lose the match?” They kept getting lost and if I wasn’t there to explain to them what was happening, I’m pretty sure they would’ve just turned off the documentary after 5 - 10 min.
I mentioned it before, but subtitles man. That’s the only way I can think of to save the footage with bad audio. Anything that was filmed in that hotel lobby with the water running, with Ed Ma and Mike Ross outside of AI, or similar footage, subtitle it. Hell, you already have bad ass kinetic typography skills. You could probably do cool subtitles like Man On Fire
i’d have to agree with this guy quite a bit. i do think that even though majority of the major faces of the scene pretty much rambled on about wanting $$ to play sf4 really kind of lost the focus of spreading the word of fighting games, they kind of gave me the impression that it’s just a money soapbox for the top players that carry the scene.
like i said, venture out to common-people that play the games for inspiration or entertainment instead of money and show the world that the fighting game scene just isn’t another rat-race to make money and be famous. afterall, like wong said, the rookies and scrubs are more or less the substance that drives the scene.
wow that was an impressive short cut of the film! you really put in a lot of depth to the scene and with EVO coming around i cant imagine what else your gonna get out of it. Definetly looking forward to the final cut
i enjoyed it a lot, even my g/f who isn’t into street fighter was interested in it and was asking me all these questions about players and the game and shit. can’t wait to see the final cut
Does anyone know if the HD torrent of this is out yet?
Some people may not like the dude, but emp arcadia is a pretty damn relevant part of the scene, so IMO It makes sense for them to be featured regardless of people’s opinions of him. There are a lot of people out there that seem to be sick of gootecks too, but does that mean he shouldn’t have been in it?
(for the record, not saying I like/dislike either of them, just making the point)
ok, ok- I agree that the power glove is incredibly stupid, but it doesn’t take away from the empire’s relevance in the scene- and that’s really what the documentary is about, right? The scene- the good, the bad, and the…ridiculous.
