Ufrag is atrocious. I dedicated my whole bandwidth to the stream and it still buffered like I was on dialup, wtf?
Looking forward to that torrent.
Just my $0.02…( I hope this is the thread to leave feedback…)
First Impression:
For a film not especially made by a “filmmaker” (or at least someone who never had the intent to turn this into a feature film project), I applaud this work :). It is definitely the first film of its kind that has the largest support from the community. Everyone will talk about it and shoryuken.com as your base will definitely push this film far. Your most exciting images are definitely hype moments that you’ve captured and I think you’ve done a great job. It’s a very “human” film (I suppose in a way, one could argue that contradicts my point mentioned later…), and I think that is one selling point because everyone has their own story to tell. Also, I think the that the film is fairly mixed well, and the soundtrack accompanies the footage well. It moves at a fairly well pace, images are strong/well chosen (40 hrs. of footage FTW), stories are told well enough (for a short version) and opposing comments on the community are addressed well, etc. In general, the film is technically executed well
I think that one element that is missing (in reference to its success in film festivals) is a sense of “personality.” I’m also a fellow fighting game competitor in the East Coast, but I also major in film. I feel like I don’t get a sense of personality from your interests in the film in a way. Perhaps it’s because I don’t really see a variety of aesthetic shots to accompany the elements of the film but nonetheless, the fair lack of personality (or style rather…) in the film may make the film seem “less important.” That is, your only target audience are only the people that understand the community and gaming itself, leaving out people out of the loop who know nothing about this community. Personally, I think that making your film seem important is an essential element because a documentary film is usually associated with writing a persuasive essay. Of course WE know it is important, but I think everyone outside of the community will have a hard time feeling some kind of compassion for the subject.
However, like I said previously, this is of course the first film of its kind and I find it very courageous for what you are doing. I’m also planning on working a fighting game documentary as well (as soon as I have the money, lol), so watching this film definitely provided me with sound insight (as well as the post-commentary session) on how a project like this will turn out. I hope to hear more about the feature release of this film in the coming months and I wish you the best of luck on the success of your project. I’ll also attempt to donate a little cash to support this soon
ufrag has it up now, virtually lagless
Damn dude you did a great job! I can’t wait to see the full length version. Congrats on all your hard work and thanks for putting in the time to make something like this.
It was a great short cut, very fun to watch and it was cool to get to know some players i’ve never heard much about (example LongIslandJoe seems like a great guy).
Link to it?
How do I view it on uFrag?
edit: thank you
REALLY good stuff. It gives a good history of where the competitive fighting scene has been/where the top players see it going. It was enjoyable to watch and definitely hypes me up to get into more fighting games, since i’m just starting out. Can’t wait for the final cut.
The graphics were very cool and great choice of background music, particularly the Go! Team. I’m sure it’ll only get better after Evolution.
My power went out at 7:45 and I freaked out that I wasn’t going to be able to watch it. Good thing UFrag records shit!
Great movie, I’m excited for the full edition
When will I be able to download a high quality or HD version?
Finished watching the film. One of the best documentaries I’ve seen on a game. The longer cut of the movie is going to be awesome for sure.
The Q&A was great.
Mike Ross hating on MvC2
Gootecks with the JUICE
LI Joe, dont leave the beast coast
good to see you used ‘RJD2 - since we last spoke’ for the gootecks/jwong match @ final round.
Ian, I’m about a third of the way through the movie and I’m liking it a lot. When the torrent comes out, are you planning on uploading the whole movie onto YouTube or Vimeo in HD? I know a lot of people who’d most likely watch the movie, but aren’t commited enough to torrent the movie or deal with UFragTV’s really bad streaming.
If you’re not down, I’ll gladly upload it to Hulu. Great streaming and compression.
Can’t wait for the longer cut. Good shit, Ian!
