Well, here’s some more advice:
Marvel is one of the worst games for a beginner to start with.
The execution demanded for the game is high, and there a shit-ton of very good, very experienced players who have been playing the game nonstop for almost 10 years. Don’t expect to become even decent overnight.
P.S. Living in SoCal w/ active arcades and complaining about having no competition makes people here want to slap you. Don’t do it.
If you’re too intimidated by arcade play at first, get some experience online…maybe with some of the older Marvel games to ease you in.
I am not lying when i say my local arcade is limited. It is because I check almost every day and there’s NO ONE THERE. Maybe this one latino guy that comes in late saturday nights, but most of the time he’s playing 3rd strike (which I also don’t really care much about). I guess I am a casual gamer. As for online games, I can’t do that because my computer sucks with emulators and I don’t have money for a new descent computer. Nor do I have a ps3 or xbox360 to play mvc2 on that as well. So as I was saying earlier, I am pretty limited. I only have 1 friend who plays mvc2 with me, but he’s busy with school so I would feel pretty guilty to call him up every day just to play. I respect people’s time when it comes to school, so Im not gonna bother him to play mvc2 with me. Slap me if you will, but I am not lying when i say my competition is limited. This is not to say “im all good and a bag of chips” but seriously, theres very few people near my area who actually know how to play mvc2. even if its with low tier characters (which I dont mind cuz I started using low tier now). The ones that play against me dont know how to block, and they think that spinning the joystick like crazy and pressing random buttons will own me. my friend owns me without doing that.
Hold up. You live in Fullerton. Where there’s a place called PC Arena, where many of the socal players have been gathering to play. And there’s no comp?
I play at camelot golfland in anaheim. I didnt even know about this PC arena place until you mentioned it.
thought about going to denjin arcade, but theres no way imma drive all the way over to ventura county. too far. Hell, even L.A is too far in my opinion.

So you want to get better, but you don’t want to go to meet the people that can help you get better? You want to go to Evo, but you don’t want to practice (see the point about you not wanting to meet people).
Stick with something easy like SF4, people have been playing MvC2 since it came out on the Dreamcast, and that’s definitely not the environment that you want to start with.
where is that pc arena place. I looked it up on google local and its no where to be found. Of course Im not surprised since every time I search stuff on search engines they always give me irrelevant results. I also tried to call this Arcade infinity place, but it doesn’t seem to be picking up the phone, which could mean only one thing: they went out of business.

yeah i noticed. but whenever i go to combovideos.com to post things, the forum there is practically dead.
And to make things worse, the net in general is a rough place. (find me some youtube videos comments without f-bombs or hardcore hatred.)
But anyways, hopefully the op has some other goals in life than just wanting to go to evo. That stuff is fun and all to do on the side. It’s just there are so many other fulfilling things one can do. runs away
going to EVO isn’t my only life goal. as a matter of fact, its just a minor goal cuz i am not looking for having my name in the hall of fame or whatever. I dont really care about that, its not gonna mean anything anyways.
