I can't get high off of video games anymore, it seems

It used to be that I could be totally sucked into any 1 particular game at a time, to the exclusion of everything else. And everything else I did in life I only did to sustain myself so I could keep playing. Those were the days. But now, I can’t get that “omg must keep playing” sensation anymore. Its like something up there is broken. I hope its temporary, but if its not, I might need to find a newer, more hardcore virtual drug to get wasted on. But what is more hardcore than video gaming? VR?

You’re not playing the right games.

Welcome to manhood.

Thats usually the cause when this happens, and I can find something that quells my cravings within a short time. But this time its different. I can be browsing through numerous libraries of newer and older games, genre by genre, and nothing even sparks my curiosity. Not a damn thing.

That’s good. Games are a waste of time anyway. Take up more useful hobbies.

Me and ruiN- were talking about this very subject the other night, haha.

Two reasons.

Maturing.

Games are getting shittier.

Don’t give up. Try other games. A lot of games are pretty bad these days, and as we get older we have less free time, as Mno says pretty much.

I’ve been experiencing that “must keep playing” with Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey on the DS lately. Seriously, I start it up and can’t let it go for hours and hours. And I have some other stuff I really should be doing instead, so that’s not really a good thing

I’m amazed you know how to turn your game console on OP.

It’s called growing up. I’ve got tons of games that I haven’t finished. It’s crazy, but I can definitely see myself not playing in 10 years.

That’s another thing, there’s a lot of focus on finishing games these days to have fully enjoyed them. But when we were kids, finishing a game was a rare thing, at least for me. Unless I cheated, but that doesn’t count.

Making dumb threads over and over on a video game forum imo.

try pot/crack/acid/melted vinyl records/huff paint from a bag

You can get high off video games? I did not know this was possible.

Can you tell me how to get a buzz from playing Gradius, please?

The only way I get high off games is when I melt the boxes they come in and inhale the fumes.

This.

You’re also getting older and starting to notice women. Or men. Whatever.

Just means you gotta step up to the hard stuff - MMOs! That’ll getcha back into the habit. I got this dealer named Blizz that’ll set you right up.

But, uh, I think it’s more about having more things on your mind than when you were younger. It’s kinda hard to “lose” yourself in a game when you’ve got priorities. If you can’t find anything you want to play right now, just don’t. No need to force it. Just clear your mind, wait, take care of some other things, and eventually you might get the urge to play something later. Playing games isn’t work, so you shouldn’t have to work to play them… or something.

technically games ARE a bit more boring. I mean seriously, how many games are there that, while the premise might be decent, are nothing more than decent rentals???

They need more games that stimulate teh brain. Man, I wish MS would have finished BC

Dear God, please stop BeGuiled from making useless threads… strike his ass with a thunderbolt or something…because I’m pretty sure you hate these dumbass threads too…

I don’t know, for some reason the only games I can play these days are fighting games and that’s with an actual opponent that isn’t the CPU. I haven’t played and RPG in ages. I just can’t bring myself to start one and actually stay interested in it.

Yeah, I can barely take FGs seriously anymore. I just continue to play at this point for more of a social thing with friends because it’s what we’ve always done before.

There is a stack of un-opened or mint condition games collecting dust. I read threads here dedicated to one game. Try it and fade out within an hour or two. No desire to finish. Or any other new big title/underground hype title.

Personally aside from the dumbing down of quality. Games just aren’t interactive anymore. I don’t feel like I’m playing a game. I feel like I’m working the remote to a very generic, but pretty movie/anime. My opinion of course.

Whatever desire is left to play games is taken up by responsibilities in life and general priorities. I feel like a grandpa sometimes.
