this is so bogus, why does the 360 edition of this game suck so much dick. the slowdown ive been getting from the last few games is beyond retarded and makes it so i cant even play my own team (Team Keep Away) online. i cant play it offline much because i dont learn shit from playing the computer (especially with that beyond bullshit boss at the end.), i only get like one chance a week to consistently play with other human competition. it just pisses me off beyond all comprehension because a game like this has to be razors edge smooth otherwise you cant do combos or even defend yourself properly. im just really mad that the version i have is so balls terrible (long load time, slowdown, intro screen has improperly timed music and loading). i hope they fix it otherwise im just stuck waiting for a PC edition that may or may not fix my problems correctly. sighs so stupid.
It’s ok, just let it all out man. Maybe the 360 version will get nice patches.

Too bad there’s not a thread where you can vent all of your frustration.
Wow i don’t have a full game so i can’t comment on the online play, but yeah, those loading screens are horrid. Its like i’m playing on a 5th generation game system(PSOne, Saturn) with its long load times.
The sad thing is this is a download-only title, which means its running on a Hard drive. HDD load times are quite a bit faster than loading from disc, one of the reasons why installing games to drive is preferable. Yet it still takes so long?!
That leads me to believe its the result of a bad programming issue.
I doubt it is “bad programming issue”. I think it is either the specs of the HD that you are using or the requirements imposed on loading stuff (read somewhere that a requirement(special decoding is needed I think; xbox360 only, short load times on ps3(again, not sure))). I remember reading that this game has the more sprites per character than any other fighting game so it has to load a lot. Characters are composed of vector images(scalable images that don’t lose quality) so that might also make a difference.
I own both versions and am really torn. The Ps3 version is better but Xbox 360 has way more people playing.
Yeah at least from what Mike Z has said both PS3 and Xbox aren’t that great when it comes to running 2d animation and since they’ve been doing some interesting stuff with the 2d sprites in this game I can see that bogging down things. The game I’m sure most likely uses up more hardware space than most other sprite based fighters so it’s not too surprising for me. If anything it shows that Mike Z does a better job developing for the PS3 than the big boys do. Capcom must not be very good at coding for the PS3 because every single Capcom fighter I’ve played runs better offline on the Xbox even though the PS3 is a more powerful system.
Yet…Skullgirls is the first fighter I’ve seen (at least coming from playing the Capcom fighters) where it actually runs better on PS3 like it actually should.
This logic only makes sense if you assume that they achieved maximum performance on the Xbox. Could just be they’re worse at Xbox developing than Capcom is, or that their focus was in a different place.
How would you have trouble developing for what is easier to code for?
To even bring that up you’d have to assume that Capcom has made a game that uses the the level of sprite work that Skullgirls has…which they haven’t. They use different tools for development since their games are rendered entirely in 3D. It’s just they have a track record of developing more efficiently on the inferior system spec wise which is…interesting to say the least.
I don’t see how they could be any worse at developing for Xbox since at least from what I’ve heard…Xbox is much easier to develop for when it comes to the coding. They might have some small things they could polish up with the Xbox version, but it’s not really surprising that an indie company creates a superior running version of the game on the PS3 whereas the big companies slop up on the PS3. You’re going to have a harder time with long dividing two big non prime numbers than adding two big non prime numbers
I definitely don’t see how Reverge Labs could be worse at developing for the Xbox since it’s literally easier language. The had an easier time coding for what Capcom has traditionally had more trouble coding for. Which means if they already did the hard stuff…the easier stuff should be easy enough and then issues with hardware would be more excusable. If Capcom games always ran worse on the Xbox it would make sense, but they always have trouble running games effectively on the more powerful system.
It at least falls in line with the way things should be working. If there SHOULD BE hardware issues they should be on the Xbox and not the PS3. The PS3 having hardware issues for fighting games doesn’t seem to be anything more than lack of knowledge when Skullgirls is running mad smooth on that system.
Apparently a patch is coming for the game that should make the PS3 version run even smoother.
Long load times seems to be strictly a hardware limitation. just sayin’
I’m wondering about the slowdown for online, though. That sounds fixable. What kind of pings do you get and what do you set your delay to? If you set it too low, that does actually cause slowdowns (same if your opponent does it too)
Also, is your connection good? (is your xbox hardwired, etc. etc.) those are all things that can contribute to online slowdown and don’t seem too hard to fix
i get mostly 40-60s sometimes 20s or 30s with certain people. its definitely not a connection issue. at first i thought it was lag switching cheaters because it made no sense that the game would move so slow when my connection is so good. and then i heard about the rampant slowdown on the 360 version. Hell, even this year’s CEO in Orlando is using the PS3 version because of the BS surrounding it and dont want to deal with the headache that comes from people losing because of it. so i dont know what to do now cause it means im missing out on easily available competition via online which means its gonna be harder to get better with my team cause i wont understand most of the possible matchups.
That… actually sucks. I thought the only problems were the hit box and loading times stuff. the fact that there’s dramatic slowdown on good connections does sound like a pain (though maybe it’s also a harddrive problem, but getting a new hard drive is never an optimal option).
I guess the only thing that can be done is stick to local and hope the eventual patch makes things suck less. (well, not only thing, I’m sure there’s some weird dramatic fixes, but I’m not the person to ask on those )
Welcome to Marvel 3 on the PS3.
The newer your 360, the better it runs. If you are rocking that old 20 gig or something, it’ll run hella slow.
im using a Slim with the 4gb built in memory (dont ask) and im not about to pay $99 for a hard drive. especially when i have 32GB flash drive that works just as well.
Not telling you to go out and buy anything, just stating my experience.
It seems like somebody…can’t control it
I think that may be your problem (though be sure to ask Ravidrath for confirmation).
From my understanding, problems with the Xbox version are highly variable. For some there are none but for others they get long load times and such. I haven’t heard of anyone having online problems with the Xbox version but that doesn’t make your situation not real. Anyway, the problems are mostly based on streaming data from the HD and how the Xbox differs from the PS3 in this regard. Not only are old HDs bad but USB drives are supposedly bad as well. Most of these problems didn’t show up in testing because the test Xboxes they were using were new models with pristine hard drives (I could be wrong on this but that’s what I heard). I don’t know too much about the Xbox architecture but that built in memory you are talking about might be an issue. The upcoming patch should fix these problems but I don’t know its ETA.
ive never had any probs with mine on the 360, and jeez are the load times really that much to bother about. its gotta be only like 10 seconds max, are people really that bothered about 5 secs extra of wait (assuming 5 secs load time is a good start point).
on a good connection ive never had probs with combos either and can land j.lp restands with bella pretty consistently.
says nothing about slowdown and i was fine with the long ass load times because it didnt affect me IN A FIGHT. but slowdown in a fighter like this where you need to be on top of your game is horseshit no matter who you talk to.
It slows down in a fight because, even in a fight, the game is still streaming data from storage. It’s not a one time load before the fight. Even mid match, the game is still streaming art assets from storage.
