OH yeah that was against the guy with the button fight…er…stick. Great match : D
Edit: Also wanted to say how important it is already becoming to be good with her outside of DPh considering the runaway game people like to do, not to mention the strategies people are already coming up with to avoid her flash and kill her before you can even get going with DPh.
I’m not gonna go so far as to say i would prefer to play Phoenix over DPh, but the important thing to get out of P Gorath’s match is every Phoenix player should proficient with her natural abilities. The more damage you deal as Phoenix the exponentially greater you success will be. Getting Phoenix killed on purpose just to transform is not smart, Phoenix herself is a viable asset. IF you can take out one or two characters with Phoenix and still have a team or DPh on reserve the match becomes greatly in your favor.
Is it wise to use your two other characters until you get 5 bars and then bring out Phoenix until she dies, or just wait until Phoenix is the last character live? Or am I just creating a false dichotomy?
The best way to play is this game is to try to keep your entire team alive for as long as possible. If you really need to use Dark Phoenix badly then build meters as soon as you can then tag her in and try to do as much damage as phoenix till she dies. From that point you have the freedom to use your team and spend meter as you see fit.
I do not believe completely relying on XF3 DPh is a solid strategy. Use your entire team so Phoenix wont have to take risks and damage. Lvl1 xf DPh can kill anyone in the game easily so decide where to use your xf wisely.
I haven’t been playing much but yea you cant play too Passive with Phoenix. If you have 5 bars and all 3 chars alive.
Its ok to pop a super off and build later. That sort of thing.
Regular Phoenix is pretty darn strong. She is like IDK Zone you out and Teleport for days if your defense is on point tho.
Also Viewtiful Joe should be able to Trigger DPH as an assist lol.
I have been testing some set ups for this and Shulkie is actually the hardest one to deal with. With her ability to stun she can be more precise as to when she kills Jean, but even then it’s gonna be a crap shoot in most situations. X-23’s can be tricky, but I found just holding up and spamming H will keep her away. DPh normal projectiles make for some great keep away tools.
Edit: Oh yeah a Hsien-Ko with hyper armor is scariest. If she times it right she can pendulum during the flash and you have to guess as to whether or not it crosses you up, if you guess wrong she can get you into a combo that will kill you. Luckily Lei Lei can be rushed down hard with regular Jean, not giving her a chance for that BS is the best way.
Yeah the She Hulk setups are harder to avoid because you’re not on the ground. Mashing f+h gets Phoenix out of all the ones I tried though. Only messed with it for like an hour though so maybe there’s something that covers that option too.
Phoenix by herself is an amazing character I cant understand why a lot of people just build meter and purposely die instead of kicking butt with her. She has ridiculous teleport and cross up ability. my favorite is H TK shot Teleport and go for air dash cross up from behind it hardly EVER gets blocked.
lol been watching that winter brawl, just saw mike infinites phoenix get snapped in, and the proceed to OCV storm/sentinel/chun-li. Goooood shit. I personally am not a fan of phoenix yet since I really do not know how to block so ill be getting opened up consistently, but I do love watching phoenix matches. And I love the reactions some players have, calling for bans and shit, too funny.
But if I ever picked her up, I would probably practice playing her on point for a bit so I can learn how to survive getting snapped in with her.
because she can do all that last with 5 bars die and come back even stronger…
Why risk starting her when she has the same options plus more last with 5 bars? Phoenix is good on point but it doesnt take much to kill her, you can kill her from chip damage mostly needing only 1 hit and two supers that chip well.
Is it too early to say she’s the best character in the game? I was watching the IPlayWinner stream of casuals last week and Filipino Champ was using a team of Sent/Doom/Phoenix and Mags/Doom/Phoenix and just owning people. He kept facing some guy who was really good (can’t remember the name) and the guy eventually got used to Filipino Champ’s Sent and Doom and would start beating the crap out of them.
But he’d let that superbar hit level 5, Jean would hit the field, and it would be over. A couple times he’d own with normal Phoenix. The other guys would just be too afraid to put pressure on her. And then DPh would hit the field with X-factor… and it’s over.
From my experience, she just controls space better than anyone else in the game. She controls opponents better than anybody. She has practically every great offensive tool in the game. Flight, 8-way air dash, Normal Overhead, Instant overheads, Tracking fireballs, traps that control space and movement, the best teleport in the game, Great jump-ins, a really good slide, She can combo off of air and ground grabs…
The only think she doesn’t have is a friggin command throw and a Level 3 hyper (that doesn’t scale).
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
I think Sentinel is overrated. He’s got a great assist, he hits like a tank, and takes hits like a tank. BUT… He’s slow, his moves are slow, and fly/unfly isn’t as beastly as before.
Yes Phoenix is quite impressive… She’s definitely got it what it takes to be top tier. While I don’t think Sentinel is broken, I think he’s ridiculously easy to use and that’s what makes him more popular. He might fall out of use in the future once the metagame shifts.
It’s all match-ups like always but jean just beats the shit out of sent if you ask me. I felt a few rhythms in that matchup where it felt like there was literally not one thing sent could do cept switch out. Not that there wasn’t anything safe he could do… but literally nothing he could do. He’s to big to ever get around floating tk shots without getting connected into a combo. I don’t even go to the ground in the matchup if possible… ever… unless im dive kicking his dome. No reason to… only way his ass wins that one is somehow pin you down and chip you out.
No bandwagoner here… I been commited to her since she was announced i luv this bitch!
