You get a free tag out with phoenix or dark phoenix by throwing H fireball and having Medium punch trap out.
Dumb question, but about Trag’s combo which most of you have seen already:
It seems pretty practical, perhaps it’s worth mastering? Or go for basic combos instead?
i have been using wesker/sent/phoenix and its been doing me some justice i agree sent and phoenix are a deadly match made in heaven lol but im thinking about doom too would be a powerful teamate…Doom/Sent/Phoenix? maybe? …im just trying to figure how i can focus on phoenix for now though i think wesker is gonna end up staying on my team would it be safe with an alternate like this?
I’ve been working on that combo for a couple of days and it is HARD. OMG i want to kill my self lol. Just the very beginning is tough. Getting to the M TK Trap -> is crazy, you’ve got to do 6 Hard punches in like 60 frames. The timing is awkward, but the damage is crazy. If the beginning wasn’t hard enough, the post-teleport part is pretty weird too. But not as difficult. Doing it in sequence is really tough.
I’ve since tried to modify the combo to see if there are any other situations to land M TK Trap. ALL of them must have c.H, t.H, M Trap since they have to be off the ground, but you have to be at a specific distance to get the trap to connect. I think i’ve found some pretty good ones. I have an HD PVR i dont’ know why i’m not putting videos up lol. Maybe i’ll do that this week, because i’ve found some setups for m TK Trap ->teleport that are so so nasty and do like 900K damage with DPHO
Doom with Rocks or missles would be good, although I must admit, you probably won’t have him by the time Phoenix gets to level 5. reason it, you’ll only have 1 assist to use, and will pretty much be flying solo. That’s the beauty of choosing phoenix… you have to actually be good enough to play the other two characters on point because you can’t really use her as an assist. That being said… I think its best to try to offset any disadvantages phoenix brings. she has 3 major disadvantages that I can see… 1-low health (obviously), 2-combos as regular phoenix only do 5-600K at the most, and 3-her assists kind of suck. So you need someone who will offset at least 2 of those. So i like doom in this situation. Good health, great assists. Haven’t used his assists in combos, so I don’t know how he can increase the damage of her combos, but i think he’s a good choice. Tron too, and for the same reasons. Haggar also. I think… there just needs to be one big strong ass charachter on the team. It helps out a lot IMO.
Anyone else like to use short a bunch with Dark Phoenix and then teleport behind? And with Dark Phoenix is there any other combos than lmhs air mmhs? because down H doesn’t launch them downward (maybe it does but the projectiles stop it?) so I can’t extend the combo but I can go into air tk shot xx super
Also with Dark Phoenix, in the corner, you can do s. A xx l overdrive over and over until about 25 hits when they fall out. I don’t know, it’s fun and you can probably cancel the last jab into H teleport or just dash in overhead.
Haha, so I’m not the only one! That combo was really frigging awkward for me, managed to get it down somewhat in training, but I will never land this online lol. Also, it’s awkward to land on taller characters, as the height for the initial cross up sequence is height dependant.
There’s some ways you can set Trag’s combo up, but it’s kinda risky and gimmicky. Stuff like Medium teleport behind them, then immediately IAD cross-up. If you use a fireball to cover yourself, you won’t get it to combo unfortunately.
There’s a variation of it for less damage, cr.light, cr.medium, cr.hard>Medium Trap, which flings them back, Medium teleport immediately behind them, then go on with the rest of the combo, or you could do Frog’s Trap loops with Light Trap, however, they don’t work against all chars in the corner, I know Light trap misses Ryu and Trish in the corner.
And off topic, but holy crap, I suck at this game lol. Still trying to find characters to fit in with Phoenix, think I should give Hsien Ko and X-23 a miss and the characters I tried to use like Morrigan and Amaterasu, I just couldn’t use them at all. Still early days yet, hopefully I’ll find a team.
@Chuck: Yup, there’s definitely more combos with Dark Phoenix than that, check out this thread: http://shoryuken.com/f372/progression-inevitable-death-phoenix-combo-thread-265997/
thanks man! i get what you mean…so are you saying that all of Phoenixs assists aren’t really usable? IMO i’m thinking that her TK shot and overdrive may have some uses for that team. Overdrive seems interesting after OTG and TK shot makes people crouch (maybe set up for overhead?) Can Doom do pretty well by himself with just using more Sentinel assists and sometimes Phoenixs assists (TK shot)?
Thanks in advance.
Firstly, Doom’s multihit assist fuck up the damage scaling. Try :l::a1:, , :h:, :rdp:
, assist hits,
, :h:, :s:, sj.:h:, sj.:qcf::atk::atk: (with Doom’s beam assist). The damage sucks. It’s better to teleport
and cross up with multihit beam assist.
And Doom with a meter building assist should stay alive long enough. Just be as lame as possible by abusing the frame advantage of his Molecular Shield H (13 frame start up) Plasma Beam H (+2 frame advantage on block). I switch between the 2 and use photon shot at full screen. My Doom stays alive and looks smug as fuck while doing it. When someone gets in they risk eating a half-life meterless combo.
EDIT: Using plasma beam in DPh mode is still nice damage though.
Useful fact I noticed friend some silliness in training mode with a friend. I think Phoenix Inferno may not work if Jean is hit even after the super is out. We were having fun clashing super projectiles against one another and we noticed that if Jean shoots Phoenix Inferno out into a Hail Storm, it clearly looks like Storm should be hit by the fire bird but she’s just fine (meanwhile Jean eats ice to the face.) Similarly, a Phoenix Inferno x Proton Cannon clash has the fire bird practically wash over Tony to no ill effect, but he doesn’t stop shooting Jean.
I thought it may be because Phoenix Inferno has just being destroyed by these other supers and the graphical representation of it remains on screen regardless, but according to the guide, Proton Cannon has only 1 high durability point, while Phoenix Inferno should have 5 high durability points. It should technically overpower Proton Cannon. Either something is up, or the guide may have some numbers incorrect. It was right about Dorm’s Stalker Flame eating through Proton Cannon (which, by the way, I totally recommend doing at least once as it looks really flippin’ sweat.)
I’m guess I’m just saying, be careful if you want to clash supers during clutch moments near the end of a round. You may be in for a very disappointing sight.
Oh yeah, and early reports of her being able to teleport out of Hail Storm seem greatly exaggerated. It’s already too late if the super spark happens, and even if done before, I don’t see how it puts you in any better position to survive the storm. I recommend just super jumping to the opposite corner for now until a better solution presents itself.
Sorry for interrupting the thread with noob Q’s, but would you guys say Phoenix is hard to pick up? She’s one of the only characters that appeals to me tbh and I’d love to learn how to play a decent Phoenix. Granted, the info on here will definitely help me with that.
Yeah so far I am finding Ryu’s beam eats through a lot of shit, like Dormammu’s stalker flame lol. A few more things to test though. Like HSF, though now that I think about it I am surprised I didn’t do that first lol.
She has some pretty easy combo’s and set ups, then some harder ones as well. She is actually quite deep. The hard part of Phoenix is learning to not die. A LOT of your meter usage and end of round tactics goes into her.
She is good at keep away and rush down and generally needs to do them both in a match to be most effective. Learning to get on people who run is particularly important as more than once I have had folks run away from Phoenix when I had five meters, resulting in them winning by time out.
^^Good shit, nice job showing what phoenix can really do.
Although, you could throw her out around 4 1/2 bars since, most combos(if she does get hit) can give you that half of meter for DPM.Also, after Teleport, I find it best to use C.M since, it quick and goes under high attacks.
My tip for the day is…M.Teleport to another M.Teleport is a good way to cause your slower moving character’s(hulk, sent)to whiff and you and get a good free punish.
And C.Teleport to C it a great way knock down fly mode characters watch out for sent’s S though…
i posted this in the combo thread but ill post it here to, what do you guys think,
Guys i don’t know if anyone else has found this but Phoenix has a sick tri jump/tridash j.h mixup. Depending on when you do the tri dash, you can either hit them on the side you are on or cross them up. the best part about it is the mix-up doesn’t end with the j.h. Say they block it whatever side you end up on, there natural tendacy would be to block low well once you tri dash j.h do a d.h so she does her burning beak and it will hit as an overhead from there you can do whatever you want for big damage, at a minimum i get 400k, theres a lot of stuff you can do with her tri dash actually
Phoenix got some pretty damaging combos mid screen am trying to chain offence together to keep my opponent guessing, teleport shenanigans are working well though there much safe with High TK shot’s
Has anyone else been playing phoenix on point? I’ve been testing it out with Doom/Storm or Doom/Morrigan and I actually like it better than having her on reserve. I dislike how quickly dark phoenix dies as well as how she consumes five bars. That and with the versatility of phoenix I thing she is optimal on point.
Edit: Also has anyone else found the X-Factor overdrive Loop? Sorry if its old news. It would have been an infinite if not for Decay but basically you do Light TK Overdrive during Xfactor than another up to 24 hits. Usually on the 20th hit I do a Medium Overdrive to Level 1 for maximum damage.
I think someone mentioned the loop already either on a previous page, or in the combo thread, can’t remember. I wonder if you could hitconfirm into the TK Overdrive and just loop, probably could. I’ve also been playing with Phoenix on point, and I really like her in that position, it’s just a shame she dies so quickly if you get caught, it’s not that fun keeping a character on the sidelines for ages and sometimes not even getting to use them if things go well. A no-brainer, but you have to make sure you’ve got Healing Field on if she’s on point.
@Nole009: Lol, I was messing around with this in training and if you’re in Dark Phoenix mode and you land j.h into Burning Beak, you can hit-confirm into a 1.1mil combo with L Trap loop, no X-Factor, 1 Hyper. I’ll post the notations later.
Funny post cropped up on the front page I thought was amusing. If it has been mentioned here before i apologize. Some guy said if you run away from Jean with 5 bars he’ll just kill himself on Joe bomb assist lol.
P Gorath your Phoenix is incredible.
