I like it better that way anyway.
Brilliant. I can’t wait to own with Phoenix tomorrow.
Longest.Day.Ever.
Dark Pheonix with full X-factor is worth it.
Yeah for those that dont know yet. The ideal way to use Phoenix is to basically have 2 characters baby her like Miley Cyrus’ entourage. You play for Phoenix…the other 2 characters are just bitches for her. She’ll definitely be an ideal character for people that thoroughly enjoy playing Phoenix because she IS the team. You only really play one character because that one character when played right is your ticket to victory.
X-Factor’d D.Phoenix = free win. You basically can not lose. Your health wont drain for like 20 seconds so there’s no need to really even activate the healing field unless you want to cover yourself that much more. Though Level 3 X Factor means if u have a firebird super that super is instant death on hit so ur basically just going to go balls out any way cuz if u land it off anything the character is dead. D.Phoenix builds meter ridiculously fast any way so u can easily put yourself in a sitaution to do this. You basically just use the firebird super to kill characters with a lot or full health and just chip everyone else out. The opposing team NEEDS to have X Factor also to have a chance. If they already used their X Factor…its just done.
Non X Factor’d D.Phoenix is still pretty broke but a bit more vulnerable due to the constant health drainage. Though if she isn’t the last character on the team u can be cheap with her for a bit then tag her out to restore health a bit then have her come back in again. If she’s the last character on the team then u just build meter for healing factor and get in so u can keep your health up while you’re being super cheese.
The minute I saw the Phoenix trailer she turned into the character I was most hype for. If she ends up having to rely on Dark Phoenix so much in the long run though, that’s gonna be pretty disappointing. Dark Phoenix, especially in the way I’ve seen her played so far for the most part, is pretty much the opposite of the reasons I was hype for her in the first place. Hoping myself or someone comes up with some technology that makes her more than that. Guess we’ll see.
It’s funny because IMO this is the only way they could have implemented such a character of immense power in the X Men storyline without her being broke. What were some of the things u were expecting out of her that would have made her better for you? I mean you CAN use regular phoenix but it requires good ues of her zoning, teleport and healing factor and then pretty much once ur done with her ur going to have to go right back to building up meter for D.Phoenix the way things are looking. Otherwise you’re only using 2 and a half characters and that’s not good odds against 3 solid characters. People will probably eventually find a way for Phoenix to work on point safely but inevitably the super low health means that you will have to take advantage of D.Phoenix to have Phoenix be a complete character. Especially since both characters add up to the health for a full normal character.
IMHO people need to start exploring good non-meter combos, resets and setups with normal Phoenix. You should absolutely make use of her normal form, even when you are sitting on 5 meters–don’t just be like “fuck it I don’t care if I die.” No, get in dat damage. If anything it’ll be great training for when people start snapping in your normal Phoenix and you don’t have 5 meters ready.
I wanna see one of yall winning with her on point too.
That’s what I plan on doing once I get the game tonight.
Completely agree. Seeing Phoenix on your team, if your opponent has any brains, his strategy is going to change. His #1 priority will go from, “Kill everybody who stands in my way” to “Kill Phoenix before that bar hits 5”. Snapback should be the 1st thing on their mind. So we (The Phoenix Army) need to create strategies and create matchups that…
- Allow us to stall/runaway until we can switch out
- Find combos with Jean that build up the most meter
- Find out what attacks and strats we can avoid by teleporting
Uhhhhhhhhhhh…
… yeah… yeeeeeeaaaah…
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
Hey look! It’s Jill Valentine! runs away
Lost fragment: Dude, phoenix is still beastly without even being Dark Phoenix. When she enters as the last character, you just dont sit there and wait to get killed (if you have 5 meters), you try to win with phoenix’s already ridiculous movement, mixups, rushdown and zoning abilities, Dark phoenix is everything I mentioned, but on crack.
Im not gonna lie, the reason I play phoenix is DPh. But that doesnt mean Im not gonna practice reg phoenix combos, mixups, etc.
The other 2 characters need to use as little meter as possible, 2 zoning chars could work pretty well. Im presonally using mags/dante/phoenix, magneto and dante rush, reset and can zone (to an extend), so I try not to use their supers (the dont really need them imo). I also use TK shot as phoenix’s assist to help my other 2 characters to rushdown safetly.
Spam her projectiles, spam Sent assist or any other good assist, spam traps. Always try to have the homing fireball out. Zone out, then zone in when safe.
Using her on point? Nah, I’m not that crazy.
I was kinda thinking she’d be a character that you could play effectively without depending on Dark Phoenix entirely if you pick your battles wisely.
Loosely, the gameplan I’m gonna run with Phoenix at first goes something like this:
-Farm dat meter then bring Phoenix in
-Play keepaway until a situation presents itself where I feel like I can start to RTSD with relatively little risk
-Keep her in until she goes super saiyan then get her ass out of there the first chance I get. Now my other characters can be a little more loose with meter and have more options available in general.
-If Phoenix is missing some health, maybe bring her back in when I get in a position where I can safely get next to them and throw up healing field and RTSD.
-Hopefully I’ll be able to pick my battles with Phoenix well enough that I’ll be able to keep her alive long enough to whip out the lvl 3 x-factor with her as a last resort.
I don’t even have the game yet so I don’t know how well this will work or if this is completely unrealistic, but if playing Phoenix to her full potential involves relying on DPh almost entirely, then that playstyle seems pretty boring to me, personally. So I’m gonna try and play her without relying on it quite as much as I’ve seen people rely on it so far. DPh is way powerful though so it’ll always be a big part of her game no matter what.
If you like playing Phoenix, putting her on point is not what to do. The risk of losing her outright while on point is too great. Regardless of how the match is going you will lose health(and most likely die) with Phoenix on point. The importance of xfactor plays a heavy part of her mad rushdown and damage potential, you can’t be a glass cannon without the firepower. A Phoenix on any team will be the one to potentially take the match. If you’re using her you have to form a strategy around keeping her alive while at the same time having her do the most damage. This is for her in either form.
Playing her on point won’t work too well… people will spam projectiles to try to chip her out and one bad teleport or random hyper that hits you is death for the most part. At least that was what I noticed… especially against magneto’s disruptor. I’ve been playing her for quite a bit now… DP with X-factor is pretty much guaranteed kills… abuse her f.M which is a standing overhead (that can be cancelled by launcher, f.H and tk overdrive) and her homing projectile and teleport and you are pretty much will kill whoever is currently out.
Though my execution is very poor and overall I’m probably a below average player but my team is dormammu/sent/phoenix so far… dormmamu and sent do great damage without meter so meter builds pretty quickly… I generally just play a keep away game while conserving meter… and x-factor when they go down and DP is out… by that time most of my opponents team is so damaged they can barely even survive the projectile spam. This probably won’t work too well if you are getting dominated though.
I’m not sure who i’m going with for my other 2, But the moment i saw phoenix, i knew i was gonna pick her up and make her a guaranteed part of my team. When i heard of her play style it became a concern because i normally dont go for characters like this. the high risk high reward type. I like something a bit more normalized. But i don’t care, I love this character and i’ve decided i’m going to stick it out and learn how to play with the fragile glass cannon.
Another character i wanted to play was storm, but she seems very reliant on using alot of her super meter. Since i’d much rather master phoenix, i’m trying to figure out who i like, I’m leaning towards x-23, maybe also wesker.
dark phoenix’s super doesnt seem to trade very well against other supers…ive gotten stuffed for ggpo a couple times
Yeah i wouldn’t expect it to. She’s supposed to be broke but im sure there are small holes in her offense that can be taken advantage of if the person reacts quickly. Which at higher level one of them will be trying to trade super with her to kill her. Which means against a good Ryu player sitting on shinkuu hadoken which goes full screen and has invincibility the first thing u might not wanna do to kill them is throw random super out for fear of near 250,000 damage loss from shinkuu trade. Sure if they block it and have less than 30 percent or outright get hit by it at any health they are dead but people with good reactions even as X Factor’d D.Phoenix you’ll have to have some sort of strategy beyond “pressing assortments of buttons”. Which just pressing buttons defintiely works against anyone who’s never fought her or just isn’t good. Bad players will just lose and rage all day to completely thoughtless Level 3 KFC D.P.'s Though even against a good player if u just think a little bit more she’s still pretty much a sure win unless their team has 3 plus meters and health stocked on all 3 characters and makes really good reads.
The hitbox is very high, sometimes crouchblocking it gives no chip it just whiffs.
I don’t know how Phoenix fares online (with the lag) but a buddy came over and we put in some matches in versus mode. He basically saved her for last, 5 meters, with level 3 x-factor.
From there the match would go either way. If I had some meter build up, I could spam random hypers and do chip damage or catch her for some serious damage. But if he landed a hit, my character would be dead. A simply magic series to launcher and OTG is enough to take out a character. You will lose 3 characters to a dark phoenix x-factor lvl 3, be it online, or in person, it will happen.
Or, you could just use Sentinel and beat her. LOL sentinel.
in mission 7…how do you tack on her fireball at the end of the air LMHS? The S knocks the opponent back to the ground…i didnt think you could cancel S into specials?
