I can't control it! - The Phoenix Thread

Possibly, but part of the reason my Sent is having issues is the entire first day we spent figuring out how to beat him. I had Morrigan’s AA for a while but that didn’t help much against Wolive, a bit against X-23 but she was able to get around it a lot too. Just going to have to switch things up. I just really like her meter build assist lol. It lets me actually fire off a couple hypers if the oppurtunity arises. I don’t feel like I need to build to five immediately switch her in, get DPh and then switch her out.

Np dude. Whatever works for you is what matters in the end. I don’t want to completely shit on meter building assists, as I think they can be useful for a small group of characters with safe and spam-able supers (Storm especially)–so I’d consider a Storm/???/Phoenix team, where the ??? character has a meter assist to benefit Ice Storm chips.

im sorry man I didnt mean to offend you or anything. I just forgot to answer your question, but yes, damage is universal, my bad. The only thing that varies is the health of every character.

I’m actually surprised nobody made a combo vid with her yet in P and DP.

It’s cool man, no big deal. Was just confused on the information. Now we just need the get the other guy to clear some things up.

I wonder if the meter assist/no meter assist is going to be an issue for the Phoenix player community for awhile. Right now, I’m leaning toward it not being needed.

phoenix can win solo without meter. she just bleeds, which is a fair trade off. because she can be pretty broken. but th eone hit confirm kill is fair. DPH mode is insane. her traps get bigger, they do more damage, you can activate healing field during DPH mode if your not x factor’d and put them in block stun and teleport towards them. Shes a slight bit slower though when healing field is activated, but still effective.

I’ll do a combo thread later - makes things easier to pin down.

I think the whole “meter assist” idea will end up being trash real soon. I have to believe that pressure/defense/mixups are far more useful at damned near any level of play than 30% meter. Can she be called multiple times during a long combo? … even that doesn’t seem worth it because I’d rather have an assist that could extend my combo.

Your point character has to be AMAZING to rely on a meter assist but I will say this, if you are aggressive and dropping meter assists… you will build meter at an insane rate. The short time I played with Sentinel/Morrigan[meter assist]/Phoenix, I got 5 bars RATHER quickly. The cool thing about the meter assist, is that you just need to call Morrigan. It isn’t like in MvC2 that you have to be close by to get the buff. Meter Assist teams will probably end up being more rogue like than your traditional team, but I wouldn’t count them out. Also Morrigan is actually pretty damn effective.

So what’s the verdict on Phoenix so far? I don’t have the game obviously, but every stream i see i always see people basing their game around Dark Phoenix. But every time someone bases a team around Dark Phoenix my mind just screams ‘SNAPBACK SNAPBACK SNAPBACK’, but no one i’ve seen ever uses snapbacks to take out phoenix early and i get sad. Just seems logical to me that no decent player is gonna just let you build meter for free while Phoenix sits on the sidelines, especially if they can do something about it.

I understand she can zone pretty well with homing fireballs and set up some shit in regular mode, but it just seems to me that EVENTUALLY you are gonna get tagged, and before they can even finish their BnB you are gonna die.

But i don’t know, that’s why i’m asking you guys; you’re the experts. Is she viable or no?

Jean is more than viable. DPh is uber.

If people really are desperate to snapback as soon an opportunity presents itself, they’ll waste their meter - not of a big issue. Jean’s movement options are also pretty good - so if necessary, she can stall a little bit before switching back into the sidelines again.

I wouldn’t call potentially killing the sole reason people create their whole teams around a waste of meter. Dark Phoenix overall just seems like a bit of a gimmick to me.

In the end isn’t everything that? It’ still a team strategy and one that is viable. It’s consistency is the question. Is it worth it? I know I think so and otherwise I’m gonna play so hard till it is >:D

lol, I just fought some dude who kept trying to DP. One match I snap backed her killed the rest of his team when he had 5 bars, and got phoenix real low but not low enough for her to DP, and ran away till the time ran out. Another time, I snap backed her in and destroyed her. Waiting for Dark Phoenix is a weird strategy, I rather just get in there with her and rape; provided I don’t get hit :X

Is the safest one.

a little more insight pls:

What were the teams?
Who did you run away with?
Did the Phoenix player use any of her broken abilities (teleport, healing, fly/unfly, projectile spam)?

Insofar, most Phoenix players don’t even know the basic movements necessary to play this game. They need to play Vsav, GG, BB, MVC1, XvsSF, or somethin. It’s scary to see so many picking her and completely neglecting all the goodness Capcom dumped into her. At the very least, some projectile spam mixed with constant teleporting. This isn’t SSF4 anymore so no more ground dashing ppl.

You don’t need any flashy combos. Just do a regular combo that you can pick up in mission mode, that does enough damage as it is while building meter. Spam projectiles and lay out the traps. I play Phoenix like a zone character, and have enough confidence to burn meter (Healing field or finishing a combo with a hyper combo). That’s how comfortable I am. But when it’s DPh time, RTSD! Remember you can spam low button, hard button shoots out flames in all directions.

I was doing X-23/Dante/Sentinel.

He wasn’t really good at all, I mean his game consisted of spamming Hard Attack with Sentinel; while using Lightning Legs Chun Li assist when I got close. I mean it worked the first round, but then I kind of went to town on him. He pretty much stood across the screen with Phoenix when he got 5 bars and spammed projectiles, occasionally he would try to chase me down, but I guess he didn’t know what fly/hyper jump/teleport was. He wouldn’t use any hypers the entire match because he was relying on Dark Phoenix too much. All I did was Sentinel Fly away and Dash away from him when he would potentially Dark Phoenix. I just thought it was quite amusing. All in all with a good battery she seems to have potential, just the first month of Phoenixes are gonna be pretty hilarious.

You played the same team I did. I played Sent on point and he was perfect for point too. In this set up I felt I had three characters who could all do well on their own and didn’t absolutely need assists (although it never hurts). I could build meter fast enough to actually use hypers instead of just instantly trying to get DPh out. Tonight I switched it up a bit, since my buddies I and my buddies devised how to beat sentinel first thing, and so my sentinel was having issues lol. I started Morrigan first with Sentinel drone assist killing their primary rush down then switched back to Sent.

With this set I am really comfortable and I feel very effective. I don’t worry much about getting DPh out until Sent gets a little low or dies. The only real thing I am still balancing around is when to use Xfactor. At the moment DPh xfactor is god like, so I like to save it if I can. But there have been a few situation I know that if I would have just burned and used it to kill someone earlier on I would have won that match.

Not trying to diminish your victory but if someone is effectively keeping phoenix out then the phoenix player needs to practice more. Even as regular Phoenix she has some pretty amazing options for either rush down or keep away.
