I can't control it! - The Phoenix Thread

Thats entirely valid but I feel like in some matchups you will get huge benefits from getting in there with her and trying to do damage rather than just hang back and wait to die. If you use HF when she has 5 bars, you can afford to take a risk and TP in and try to make something happen. Then, if you are foregoing a meter assist, you aren’t garaunteed to get your one meter back before HF runs out so its risky. I guess given the set up you are going for, forgoing HF with Phoenix and just turtling/playing keep away until she dies and goes DPh makes sense.

Cool, thanks for your feedback.

Not necessary - but helps a little.

Doing Aerial Exchange nets you an entire bar per exchange. Plus, there are good characters who build meter really fast by themselves (and don’t need them into their BnBs).

Try things out - and use what’s better for you. :3

I’ve seen people playing just to get DPh. Play to win like you don’t need DPh…

I know right? Phoenix is still a great character even without DP mode.

I dont even try to get darkphx, i just play her on point and get mauled. Shes too sick

gonna learn phx/viper/dontknow

i’ve seen this too. they should secure the 5 meters while playing to win. then people realize snapback her or when doing a combo end it with a beam super or dhc that shizz into one.

To anyone who played so far, which of Jean’s assists is better overall?

I’m torn between Overdrive and Trap. :c

We all know that spamming her as an Assist is pretty much asking her to die lol - but I’m wondering what is her best assist to use mid-combos with another character.

Meter management becomes more important when she is around. Balancing meters and such. Alot of lab work to do with her and team compositions and such.

I gonna try to save alot of meter but at the same time doing good offense.

Playing her on point? Man some ppl got balls man.

I actually made someone ragequit irl in MvC3 today.

I was in Nashville, TN participating at a tournament at the famous Game Galaxy arcade. I finished fourth with my team of Sent-A/Dante-A/Phoenix-A. I was goofing off after the tournament with the guy running the arcade that day who was playing Super Skrull (who I hadn’t fought), so I let him get a few wins just to see what he could do. That’s when things got hilarious.

Him (after taking out Sentinel and Dante): Uh, no offense Duckie… but how the hell did YOU get fourth place today?
Me: busts out Dark Phoenix, activates level 3 x-factor, and takes out all three of his characters in less than ten seconds.
Him: :amazed: … man, FUCK THIS GAME!
Me:

Dark Phoenix is so powerful, especially if you can get her to DP before the other two are dead and switch her out, as an assist DP is ridiculous. TK Shot as DP is as crazy as you’d think, it’s so spammable and damaging. She herself can kill Sentinel in DP mode with a combo if she can land it if she’s in X Factor mode with a whole lot of chip thrown in.

But the low health either way is still quite something to get around. The fact the whole team has to be built around Phoenix seems somewhat limiting. Even as DP, with X Factor on as last character, and Healing Field I still have to be careful of random panic supers the other player may pull out. I’m a total scrub I admit so I hope someone really good figures something out wit her. I feel like most of the best players and tactics will consider DP too risky and unstable to use consistently though.

Got to play her a lot. One Sentinel Combo kills her just straight up. A lot of Sentinel’s moves seem to out prioritize her moves which is not good.

Also another note. If someone is comboing you and you get killed off the last hit of the combo (but you get your 5th meter off that last hit) you’ll just die. Dark Phoenix won’t come out. It really sucked when that 5th meter was flashing when I died with Phoenix

Yeah, I think the key is that while you have to build a team around her to get her to her full potential, playing your game around her is foolish and a good way to lose. The purpose is to have DPh be the last person fighting, with full health, x-factor and a few bars at her disposal. The goal is to set this up without being disruptive to the rest of your game.

Dont’ think of Dark Phoenix being your way to win, think of it as your comeback mechanic if your other two characters cannot get the job done.

I’m loving how truly unique she sounds. And yeah, when you get a really dramatic glass cannon like this as a character, there are no half-measures. You either go headlong into it and build a team around her and maximize all her strengths, or you should probably just leave her out of the equation. To spare yourself the heartache, if for no other reason.

Question; can you still switch your point character like in MvC2 and TvC? I think I seen it once in a video somewhere. It would be a good stratagie if you have Pheonix on point but find yourself at odds with an opponent with a very dangerious point character.

I have heard Seth say you can, but have never seen it. I will try it out. To be honest, with a Phoenix team, I can’t see any reason to ever have her start point. Then you have to build meter to 5 with almost no meter for HF’s. Chances of survival are VERY low in that scenario. You want your best no meter fighter who can build meter effectively to start point generally.

I’ll say one thing.

Phoenix should never be on point.

Ever.

It’s basically exposing your teams’ biggest asset to a fully possible early death. You want to control that thin life bar of hers as much as you can.

I’ll be perfectly honest I think her lifebar is too harsh a penalty even with all the stuff she can do so far. Even if she had a mere 600 life, still the lowest in the game, it’d at least give a little more flexibility than the 450 she apparently has now. But that’s just me and like I said I’m no pro, but it really is that big of a hurdle so far.

Played Sent/Phoenix/Trish yesterday.Here my tips.

She should only be used when.

1.Your opponent has only 1 or 2 meters.
2.You have 5 or 4 1/2 meter(In most cases she will go into DPM).

In case your opponent has around 3+meter and you get snapped back.Use healing field/X-factor as quick as you can.

You see phoenix has amazing movement and great keep away, so combos are going to be kinda hard to get with ,However, chip damage is what she needs to worry about the most.

She can Teleport to dodge storm’s hailstorm Btw…

She is playable without having to go in DPM ,but, she isn’t a easy to use character.

Wait, what? Seriously? I thought it hit full-screen… do you have to teleport behind her? Also can you punish her as well if you can avoid it with a teleport?

Phoenix spam is too good. She will seriously cause you to play your game differently. Just because you have 5 bars doesn’t mean you sit back and wait to die. Still try to win aka stay away and throw fireballs and teleport behind your opponent to combo.

So nasty.
