When her life drains down during DPh mode, switch her out and let her regain her health and get her back in after it recovers (dhc preferred).
A streamer kindly showed us some things about DPh:
Her Jabs on DPh are also pretty fast and chips A TON. Five consecutive jabs on Cap (while guarding) damaged him around 25% of his healthbar.
I assume it may be safe to spam jab lol (since they’re pretty quick, and you can hit confirm once a jab hits into her staple combos - which almost one-shotted Cap). Since the streamer just picked the game, most likely she’ll OHKO the entire roster without effort once proper combos are discovered.
You can also put her TK Trap on the screen, teleport behind them and use a throw into the opponent - effecitvely comboing the throw into the Phoenix Sigil. Awesome, isn’t?
Jean’s tri-jump is pretty fast (even in her normal form). She pretty much have the best mobility of the game.
People’s reactions on Jean (be mocking her low health or cursing her broken damage) will never get old. - can’t wait for my copy.
EDIT: Watching more of the stream (pretty overal Phoenix play, btw), I got some more impressions:
Morrigan is indeed a great teammate for her, regardless of the Assist used. I was really skeptical about using a Meter Assist at all, but my opinion changed while I was watching the stream’s matches.
Morrigan builds 1/3 of the meter bar pretty easily - if partnered with a good keepaway character or another one with good options regarding mobility and/or projectiles, Morrigan can stay out of being exposed too much. Even a Dormmamu/Morrigan/Phoenix could work - since once you got Dark Phoenix out, she’s so broken that she’ll rip through the other team without too much hassle.
Regarding other teammates, the streamer was using Spencer/Morrigan/Phoenix - Spencer can also be another good pick 'cause of his maneuverability. If fullscreen away, you can make the opponent honest with his grapple whilist calling Morrigan to build meter. Since he’s a character with few Hypers and solid overall damage (counting with good combo starters from a lot of moves), he can be a solid battery by himself.
On the bad side, I can easily see X-23 being Jean’s worst matchup.
Laura’s (yes, that X-23 name lol) Level 3 is SCARY. While invisible, she’s immune to pretty much everything that Jean (even on DPh) throws at her - and if she hits you with her Hyper, Jean is OHKOed. If Jean is the last character versus a X-23 with three bars, you’re pretty much done.
Morrigan is a great teammate for her. I wasn’t kidding when I said she was versatile for most teams!
Here is a Dark Phoenix combo involving Sent Drones. 5A(call Sent Drone), 5B, 5C, 6Cxx236A, 5A, 5B, 5C, 5E, j.A, j.B, j.C, j.6C, j.E, j.236B(TK’d)xx236AB. It does 935,000 damage.
Edit: A buddy of mine is testing this combo and anything added between the 5C and launcher will make the combo drop due to hitstun scaling.

I am about to upload a 1370 dmg combo with phoenix (4 bars > xfc ) with magneto assist
my team is Magneto/Dr Doom/Phoenix btw
Phoenix looks like she will be OP once the combos in this game develop enough to where the first to get 3 hits wins, since her health will no longer be much of a factor.
I didn’t even liked Morrigan… until now. Damn, I’m really tempted to try her up
She’s really flexible. Her Shadow Blade Assist is also a pretty good one - stuffs a lot of things, making the opponent uneasy about careless air approach (like you said earlier, this really benefits Sent).
Also, can your friend verify another good options from the same combo involving Sent’s Drones - without hitstun scalling?
Thanks in advance.
Great. I’ll add that to the video thread.
Also, the hud is cutted at the end of the vid. How much damage it does?
Does Jean have any move that pick people OTG? I really don’t wanna put an Assist just to do that. :V
We will try to test it, but hitstun scaling on it seems so severe…
Since both you and your friend tested some things in the game, I assume that this still stands, right?
I mean… it’s pretty important to know if Morrigan is auto-sufficient - that factor alone easies a lot of the weight on anyone’s shoulder if pairing Jean with her.
Yeah, she’s auto sufficient and not as squishy as some of the other rushdown characters. Shouldn’t have much of a problem with her paired up with phoenix. Sent seems to be good with Phoenix as well.
Can Phoenix teleport as soon as she’s snapbacked in? What are some good techinques to counter snapbacks? Can X-23 still do her lvl 3 grab on incoming characters like she did in one of the vids from the old builds?
Many thanks.
Yeah, not quite free. It would be cool f Deviljin or Carpark could test this out. (Pretty pleeeeeeeas?)
Also, if one of you can tell us what happens when DPh’s health ticks all the way down that would be cool. Does she stay one hit from death or does she auto revert. If she auto reverts to Phoenix, is it possible for her to become DPh again if she has 5 meters stocked? Inquiring minds want to know!
Yeah, she can - and it OHKOes Jean.
That’s the main reason I listed X-23 as a bad match-up for her.
Yeah, Sent is a no-brainer. Huge HP and awesome meterless damage.
Do update us as soon you and your buddy discover more setups with Sent and Jean.
Whoops already answered but yea, x-23 can.
Y’know what, I’m just going to wait for lab time to figure out if I want that meter assist. At the very least, I want Dark Phoenix to have some meter to play with once she’s out, so that may be the main reason I consider a meter assist.
Also, it’s going to be weird having to worry about where I die and if I’ll be able to hit my opponent with the transformation blastwave. I don’t think it’s a consideration I’ve ever had to think about before. I like that she’s a game changer like that.
@ Swillow
what is “OP”? some terms still get me haha
@ Alioune
nice! cant wait to see what the findings are to bring to the table in a few months … Question: so far in playing what other characters may have a good synergy with Phoenix besides Doom and will give out great result ? these vs games are a bit new so i just hoped to get more ideas from ppl in the thread on how it may work with having a balanced powerful team … the more i see Dante it seems hes a viable option …im still in the air though lol
This is corner only, right? Or maybe it is character specific? IIRC 5A, 5B, 5C, 5E, doesn’t combo mid-screen (unless Sent’s drones last THAT long), you should be doing 5A, 5B, 2B (slide), 5C, 5E instead. Her launcher has shit range. Also, you should never do J. A during air series, ALWAYS do J. Bx2. I would test that combo, but I’m at work, so I’ll do it later. I’m pretty sure DPh can do more with assists.
She stays on that one pixel.
I’ll probably stick with my original team (Tasky/Sent/Jean) - but a meter assist like Morrigan’s is viable enough if you know* how and when* to use it. Morrigan being a great all-around character with average HP is also a good plus.
Good teammates, IMO: Sent, Morrigan, Tasky (for the aforementioned reasons), Spencer (good HP and damage, doesn’t hog too much meter), Doom (good HP, standing C/H to pick OTG, and two great assists [Missles and Rocks] and Ammy (meterless loop nets decent damage, plus meter assist of her own).
Using Jean as a late-game sweeper is indeed her best use: if the opponent’s team is weakened enough, you can win just by chipping and keepaway. Since she builds really fast in DPh, a single use of Healing Field to Teleport can back her HP up in a matter os seconds.
Let the haters keep hating. Jean is just godlike. <3
Yes, it is a corner combo. Will take note of the things you’ve said.
