Just wondering… is Doom crucial on the team ? i was thinking Dormammu, Phoenix , Ammy … Ammy seems like a good team mate too her ice assist looks good imo… thoughts anyone ?
I don’t know about having Dormammu with Phoenix. Dormammu seems to be a meter hog and not a good meter builder. Ammy should be fine though. She does have lower health than Doom however. So, that’s 2 really low healthed characters. The health shouldn’t be that big a factor though since all characters seem to put out massive damage. Someone hits you with a KFC combo and Doom’s little bit more health probably won’t help him from getting dropped. I personally will be rocking (no pun intended) Doom with those Doom Rocks since I used Doom in MvC2 and really dig the good Doctor. I’m thinking that a Team ClockW0rk-like Sentinel/Phoenix/Doom team is going to be a really good team for Phoenix in the early months.
How do Taskmaster and Dante sound? Both seem like they can hold on their own pretty well and build meter. Maybe Taskmaster with arrows assist and Dante’s Jam Session?
Pretty unlikely. So far not only does it look like you can block after DPh activation, there are people sitting around trying to figure out how we can combo off of the thing. You can block after DPh but what I wonder about is during the DPh animation if you can get to the other side when it activates. Because from what I’ve seen the blast wave doesn’t cover 360 degrees around her (more like 240). It looks like it would take a the perfect situation to get her and also for the Phoenix player to sit there as well.

Thanks for the info Rogueyoshi.
You guys are getting me so hyped for this character. Most of my fears have been relieved. I’m wondering if she has a lot of combo variety and potential from a first glance?
Actually it may be possible for characters especially Dormammu to kill her after DFh. This is a quote from Seth Killian about Phoenix. Notice the bold.
"With Dark Phoenix mode, she essentially has two lifebars. It’s not quite that simple of course, but she does get a full bar back, and even a mini-combo breaker when she turns (she pops out of whatever was happening to her when she turns, though some things (like some projectile hypers) will continue hitting her after she finishes the transformation.)"
that makes some sense i just thought Dormammu seem to help Phoenix because it looks like his assist could help when shes out i can kinda agree on the clockwork-ish team that sounds good too … i want a balanced team but with quick mixup and rushdown … this is my 1st versus game so im keeping an opened mind about team ideas (i own MvC2 but i suck at it and i only played it 2xs … shame on me lol i know) . i thought about Dante too… im not sure ? Wesker or She Hulk (she has more life too i think) …im sill trying to understand the best competitive way to go about picking up teams… im so hype but i need help lol theres so many to pick from .
thanks in advance folks
Just got the game, Dark Phoenix is tits.
- Yes, off her stand C. Can do B, forward+C E> whatever off A (ground) version.
- Nope.
- X-Factor negates chip on its own.
- Wasn’t able to without an assist.
- Yep.
- Block, yes, combo, unlikely even with assist.
- Yes, but need more testing.
Will test everything else later.
Can you teleport right after/during the blast wave of the DPh transformation activation?
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
Can you teleport and hit Storm as she activates Hail Storm?
Can you XFC guard cancel>teleport out of possible chip death while blocking a beam hyper/Hail Storm?
No, prob. It takes all kinds, even open minds. I’m just going to drop my opinions on your other suggestions. She-Hulk=No. She-Hulk does have great health, but her options for getting in aren’t the greatest. Phoenix’s assists don’t seem to help her get in either. This makes me think it might not work out. On the plus side She-Hulk’s Torpedo (low-hitting) assist could help Jean, but I still don’t see it being a good team match-up. Wesker, however seems viable. He can do good damage without having to burn meter, gets in easily with his teleports, has high health, and like She-Hulk has an assist that hits low. On top of that he has a counter. You counter an opponent a couple times and you just might scare them into pressing a couple less buttons. I think Dante is a “Jack-of-All-Trades”. He personally seems viable to me with any team at this point. This is just specualtion though so I could always be wrong. Really though it’s much easier to say A+B+C character don’t look like they’ll mesh well then A+B character 'cus that 3rd character could be just what rounds out that team to make them viable. So I’m just warning you 6 months from now I could be proven terribly wrong.
Dante’s great since he can build meter and hold his own without using up meter and without too much assist help, also his Jam Session works perfectly for pressuring the opponent when Phoenix starts rushing them down. It also OTGs. I like Wesker too, but I don’t know how much his assists will help Phoenix, I like that both can teleport but i’m not seeing much assist synergy there.
I’m curious about Taskmaster as well, since he has good health, and doesn’t really need to use up meter at all to rack up combos. His Aim of Hawkeye assist might be useful for Phoenix when the opponent is far away, giving her the time to set up traps and whatnot.
Sweet, awesome news! About #6, can she actually block immediately after her transformation mid-combo? Do you know if a beam hyper like Ryu’s that connected on Phoenix could be blocked after she transforms?
Yes, she can block Ryu’s Shinkuu hado immediately after her transformation.
Awesome findings, everyone.
Tasky is an awesome contender. I’ll be using him as soon as I get the game. Not only he’s corny and awesome, but pretty mobile - plus, he does good damage (500k on a meterless BnB) - making him a battery of choice.
If using Tasky, his updward arrows are a better choice for Jean. Setting TK Traps will make the opponent unweary enough to not to do random jumping-ins. Like Doom’s missiles, they also track (albeit inconsistent on characters doing a super jump).
I can’t give an opinion on Dante, since he just doesn’t interest me - but if he end up doing a 500k meterless or more, you’ll be fine.
Doom helps a lot. His missiles will be preferable instead of the Rocks, since they’ll hit regardless of the situation and also tracks the opponent - making life a bit easier against Dormmamu/Arthur and other keepaway teams. Plus, it’s a nice tool for a lockdown pressure, albeit a little slow on the start-up.
Amaterasu’s Cold Star is a good assist - but have in mind that she’ll be exposed during the entire animation of the move - if people are smart enough, they’ll get around it and punish her accordingly. Good assist to have, but not a “spammy” one (lol bad pun). Her meterless loops also nets decent damage overall.
Dormmamu maybe can work if you get DPh early and switch him in. Jean’s Assists during DPh are better than the normal ones, so she can help her with his keepaway game. Outside of that novely theory, they don’t have much sinergy with one another - especially since Dorm is a meter whore.
ooh i see lol yeah im starting to understand a bit more now … but now i feel i may not use ammy yet either (i gotta see) ? i wanna see what character has good synergy with her before i pick a 3rd … it depends on the 2nd because they will be my point character sorta until Phoenix is set to add on to the pressure ya know? the 3rd for me may be sentinal? some are saying he will be a must … but in vids it seems he can get double teamed reeeeeaaaallllly bad cause he so big and she seems to need the protection more-so than him . am i right?
@Brennan
that made alot of sense too . very helpful . i wonder who else can build meter fast to help Phoenix ? Storm maybe … whats you take on wesker also? it sux X-23 has not that much of life or i would consider her
really appreciate the help
Sweet, thanks for testing!
Everyone’s comments on how they could kill off DPh with KFC’d hypers had me worried there for a second.
DPh’s air :f:+:h: is bananas, you’ll see why.
That is all for today, need some rest.
B-A-N-A-N-A-S
Thank you Gwen for forever teaching me how to spell that.
And Carpark that is so mean to say that and scoot. You tease lol.
Nice stuff. I can hear some early QQ of her now.
Her mission 10 is stylish.
Dunno if this has been said before but she can combo off of her air throw.
Smexy did a recording of her Mission Mode - that combo is pretty nice, actually.
