Not sure if I wanna roll with the meter assist since Shadow Blade is so good and Sentinel will need to keep people from jumping on his head all day(especially with his flight nerf). I think I’ll try the team without the meter assist since Morrigan and Sentinel should be able to build meter for Phoenix on their own and they don’t need meter to be effective. If push comes to shove, then I’ll use the meter assist to get Dark Phoenix in the fight asap and help her mixups with Sent’s air raid while keeping meter stacked with her normals and morrigan’s meter assist.
I’m honestly not banking on a meter assist to get Dark Phoenix in the fight, but rather solid play from the other two characters since you build meter so quick in this game.
Jam Session, Doom Rocks/Missle, Taskmaster arrow, Cold Star all from arguably better characters to pair up with Phoenix that compliment and are complimented by the rest of the team as well. Not to say that Morrigan is bad, but she just comes off as Akuma lite in this game, especially in the hyper and fast combos department.
No thank you. Morrigan is my main character and I know she’s very versatile(I have played a build of the game). I don’t see how Taskmaster arrows would help since I have sentinel drones/air raid, and I don’t really need doom since I’ve got Sent. I don’t really see Jam Session as helping me out on defense since it can get stuffed with its lack of invincibility. Shadow Blade would be much better in this aspect, especially for Sent.
I’m not interested in using any of those characters except maybe Dante with Phoenix to extend her fly combos with Jam Session.
Edit: Yeah, I’m stubborn, but I’ll make this team work out.
Im torn in between Phoenix as 2nd or 3rd… Phoenix as the last character means lvl 3 X-Factor but no assists to help her… which she may not even need in Dark Phoenix mode… with her homing projectiles which cover her approach in such an effective way, and an instant teleport which basically says “i dont give a fuk about ur keepaway huahuahuahuhuhuhihihihilololol^_^” every time she uses it.
But maybe she does need assists to get in, in which case i would play her 2nd, and tag her in the moment i have lvl 5 (hopefully with my point character still alive… or at least with the 3rd one alive). Assuming she will be needing her assists, i would use Sentinel with her, and then either Morrigan or Ammie, if i realize she needs a meter building assist, or Chun, if it turns out meter builds up so fast that she doesnt need a meter building assist.
All theory fighting only of course, but those are my thoughts right now.
Akuma doesn’t have those funky ass air dashes. I am going to also say she has at least two awesome assists. A meter assist can be useful, and Shadow Blade is well, Shadow Blade. I also seriously dig her Mirrior Hyper.
I think between having to deal with Instant teleports from phoenix and Morrigan’s wonky approaches and command grab mix ups (hopefully) you opponent may just want to kill themselves. Especially with a good assist like drones.
I really think that a meter assist is just a luxury. I thought that Jean needed it at first, but watching those guys go at it last night… The guy who used Dorm/Doom/Phoenix was getting his meter to 5 with no problem just by using Dormammu’s bossass keepaway game and not using Stalker Flare.
Problem with using meter assist (IMO) is I think that you would then HAVE to use Phoenix’s assists more. Imagine Morrigan/Sent/Phoenix. What are you gonna use to prevent Sent from getting ganged up on in close? Gonna have to use Jean and that’s something you definitely don’t want to do a lot of.
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
I wish you guys could’ve seen that EXTREMELY fast TK shot DPh did on the ground. I don’t know if she charged it but that thing was SO FAST.
To all those people planning on using Phoenix in the 2nd slot, are you planning any shenanigans with tagging her out once she is in DP mode to try to extend her usefulness? In fact, how many people plan on using her as an assist once she’s in Dark Phoenix Mode at all?
Again, lab time is required, but I seriously worry about the risk/reward factor of using Dark Phoenix as an assist unless you have the situation completely under control.
This is exactly what I was getting at with this team of mine. Who is going to protect Sentinel from getting his head smacked around by someone like Iron Man trijumping on him every two seconds? Phoenix sure as hell won’t. Since sentinel or morrigan don’t need meter to be effective you can just save all the juice for phoenix once you hit 5 bars. Meter comes quick in this game from what I have played, so solid play can indeed net you those 5 bars.
though you might be able to combo with lingering sent assist on the screen i do know that if your getting hit and die in a multi hitting move you have to block the rest of hit. This sucks cause if you got hailed in the air or something you have to block it in the air with no xf capability…etc
Alright, so I’m getting to play the game either tonight or tomorrow. I’m using Zero/Dante/Phoenix because I am a fanboy of these 3 characters. Is there anything that you all think I should try out? I am also going to take Dante/Zero out and try out Wesker/Dorm. Anything specific you all are thinking of? Thanks in advance for the help.
I am going to run her second in a hyper aggressive rushdown team. X-23/Phoenix/Morrigan. I am gonna get OCV’d like mother on line. It’s gonna be AWESOME!
I plan on metering as much as I can with X and then putting together an arial tag combo to land Phoneix in safely with close to the 5 bars. Then do as much damage as I can until she dies, build 1 meter as fast as I can and try to either arial tag out or, if I can’t find an opening just burn the one meter for a crossover counter to get Morrigan in. Then it s the Morrigan show, where I use her funky upward angled dash with X’s low assist to set up unblockables and just meter as hard as I can. Once she goes down it’s X with an occasional DPh assist (most likely the “psycho crusher” looking one). Then the finale is DPh with X factor left over and meters to play with.
Or I could just get OCV’d by Sentinel who has as much health as my whole team, ya know…whatever works. (jk)
Ha, I know how you feel. That’ what I feel like going into the game.
Anyways, I like the Healing Field on Phoenix. It looks like it might give her a chance to survive more than one combo, and if she uses that while D. Phoenix then she’ll just gain health. It’s only one meter, and you tend to want to be upclose anyways with her.
Also, some of my friends are saying Sentinel is still good.
Got to play Mahvel last night. Most of what people are saying is true. Dark Phoenix + X-Factor = gonna make newbies rage. She can easily take out all 3 characters. She doesn’t even really need combos once she gets a super. The super does like 30 percent chip also, is full screen and is a projectile so unless u have something that covers the whole screen really fast on block even on block its pretty safe. Her super is instant death if anything hits that is cancellable. If the super actually hits u like off a combo, ur dead. Even one landed homing missle to super = gone. She can launch like up to 4 of those homing missle on screen at once and 2 of them come out on each rep. Her little mini lasers she can pretty much surround herself with as well when she’s in dark mode. She has a Cinder form KI style special where she turns into fire and flies at u and does like 25 percent chip and can combo into anything on hit and is safe on block. Her trap special takes that makes a phoenix wing takes up like nearly all of the vertical screen space in Dark mode. Like your only chance of geting around it is waiting for it to dissapear or super jumping over it.
If i beat my friends 3 characters just by mashing on shit with Dark with Xfactor…i can only imagine. I mean yeah she can die in combo…but she can kill everyone in one combo too and probably has the game’s best keepaway and rushdown. Its literally like fighting a mugen boss. You either kill her or die instantly trying.
