I can't control it! - The Phoenix Thread

We’re not surprised, but it keeps getting funnier every freakin’ time!

Okay so let’s say Phoenix has some sort of god-like offensive options, this health issue is still going to be a major bummer.

Just imagine if she gets attacked as an assist lol o_O

And the constant shit talk for her health continues.

Well we see what happens. I trying to get my system fixed soon so I can play.
She looks like fun. DPH should excite me. Super rushdown mode time.

I wont be. I played Seth in SF so that helps. Constant zoning to prevent from being hit. Problem is it will be much harder in this fast paced game unlike SF and those damn snap backs.

I hoping for some DPH good bullshit now tho lol.

I’ll reserve my final opinion on phoenix until i see how she takes damage under healing sphere. in the meantime, i’ll troll you by saying, southern accent DIS BISH IZ LOW TERR! Face it, she requires to many resources and to many circumstances to go right to warrant a valuable spot on a team. there’s only ONE thing i can see phoenix being good at and we haven’t seen enuff of her yet to see how good it is.

This has been A MAN WITH WORKING EYEBALLS saying:
BAKTOODAKICHENHEAUX!

Healing Sphere doesn’t reduce damage taken, it just heals red health. So someone like Ryu could still basic combo you into launcher, knock you to the ground, and then OTG Shinkuu, which would put you out of range for the sphere to work and thus you would die. Alternatively, the sphere might just run out mid-combo.

Sphere is a waste on non-Dark Phoenix.

This bitch properly dies in one-hit if she gets caught in Assist-Mode ROFL

reducing damage and healing red health are essentially the same thing though. The healing is damn near instant, so the end result is the same: she loses less life when she has the sphere working.

I very much doubt it’ll be a waste on normal Phoenix. It’ll obviously be better for DPh, but if normal Phoenix is your last character and you only have 1 bar then you better pop dat sphere

Actually I can imagine plenty of times in that situation not to pop that sphere. Depending what we are up against I probably WILL pop that lvl 3 XF(unless it’s a slow opponent or anyone teleport can easily react get in on(lol english) where I’ll probably save it for a KFC) and save that meter to kill them with. I think lvl3 XF is going to be very important for Phoenix teams that use her as an ace in the hole and probably will focus on just trying to wittle down opponents over time(man saving XF and meter for phoenix? Killing opponents might take too long :frowning: )

Much to ponder I have…

I don’t think it’s wise - really, to make knee jerk patch adaptations based off of the fears of SRK forum posters on a stream match showcasing low level play. The developers spent almost 3 years making the game what it was, I’m sure they are very well aware that Phoenix has that kind of health, and they spent years designing and convincing themselves that Phoenix should be designed like this.

They probably (and should) make a patch altering obvious faults or character imbalances after they have settled and have properly established themselves as legit problems. And the trend we saw with SFIV, (i.e, no character balancing patches) is the kind of trend I’d expect to see with Marvel 3.

Look, the person who won the gamespot tournament used and crutched his tactics on using Morrigon’s meter boost assist. Does that mean Capcom should look at this tournament and say “oh shit, morrigon’s meter boost assist is broken, let’s make a day 1 patch and fix this bitch up.” No, right? They need data in the long run to see how things work out. Same with Phoenix, yes - initial observation from low level justin.tv ustream play indicates she takes a lot of damage, but we need to see the big picture - which we can only see after several months of community play.

At this point, all I can say is that use Phoenix because she seems fun (and she -does- seem fun) She has interesting and unique tool sets and if she becomes the “Gen” of MvC3 (I.e, character not necessarily top tier yet ballsy and fun to play as) then so be it.

AAaaaahhh yea I keep forgetting about lvl 3 XFC! It’ll help tremendously against chip. I’m honestly more worried about Phoenix getting chipped to death via Ice Storm more than anything else. She can’t even teleport behind that shit, and healing field will be useless.

XF is gonna be great versus chipping indeed, if I recall correctly one can KFC out of blockstun? Should alleviate some issues of DHC chip I hope. It’s not gonna be easy, but getting Phoenix with that 5 meter on hand and a lvl3 XF to get ready to clutch it out should create some great match videos

^This^

I’m still going to play her, but she’ll sadly be chipped to death more often than not. Hypers like Dormammu’s Floating Bomb, Storm’s Hail Storm, etc. do awesome chip to average stamina characters. Mix that with specials, hypers, assists and she’ll easily get bleed to death. Good luck avoiding the chip on all of them everytime. I actually love her low health. It means you either play perfect or fail with her. I just don’t like how she’ll get raped by chip too. On a sidenote, Healing Field seems only good to activate against a player who keeps trying to chip you out. You just get in their face and quickly get back your chipped life. Other than that it’ll be useless unless it can be used with DFh. Even then it might be worthless since if you get hit regardless of 100% or 10% life against a skilled player you’re dead. Also, to those who say it may be useful if it lowers damage received: It should a little, but will still be pointless. She died halfway through a simple Ryu combo. Mid to advanced combos will kill her regardless of if it makes her receive a little less damage or not.

I hope she stays as she is. She is the Red Venomish type character, and RV took one good super he would die as well. But if you were on top of your game he was damn near unstoppable. You could literally just walk up, mash throw into his Scrubby infinite that your grandmother could pull it off. If Phoenix is super quick, super agile, has great normals, great supers, and hits hard like RV did I dont see how she will be bad.

Did yall boys not see the spam potential with those double orbs with dark phoenix, and how much they took off on Hsien-Ko in Hsien-Ko/Sent 3 video? Honestly, if she woulda kept spamming those and not tag in Sent she would have won. They were showing off the other characters so she had to die just like all other gameplay vids of characters are always down to the wire. Put a good marvel player behind that character soon and well see what happens. Im callin it. Doubters will be sorry.

Oh man, I’m trying to keep the faith, so hard, but man oh man that low health is daunting. As ever, I will have to wait and see. :expressionless:

Yo k4polo, is there universal snap backs for this game? That could ease your stress if not everyone had one.

Everyone has a snapback in this game.

I kinda got over the health issues, but i just watched a video i n justin.tv and well… at full life, she dies from one Hulk sHPxxGamacrush.

It’s Marvel. Anyone can SnapBack.

I doubt she can be top in a game that lacks infinites. I think she can hit high tier though.

Shoutouts to Strider.
