I can't control it! - The Phoenix Thread

But honestly Jean’s only downfall is her LOW HEALTH, but that health is low though. Really big flaw. Fast, teleport, projectile, good combos, her flame trap and the aegis shield projectile, flight, airdash. Has good damage potential as well as good battery building potential.

But the low health, not even glass, more like porcelain.

Porcelain is too much credit. She has the sturdiness of a house made of rice paper in the middle of a typhoon.

No mention of Hulk? Must be top tier then.

Tiers ought to be mighty interesting for this game and I sense things are gonna change alot more compared to say SSFIV.

Rather interesting in how good Phoenix can be. Is she bad? Good? Gimmick? Maybe too good on right setup?

She’s really crazy, I think mags and storm have the capabiility of beating her but everone else has to snap her in and kill her otherwise its an easy winm. Dpx mode just mash proj then random tele get meter life shield…etc. As for stong chars go I think the best right now maybe vip/storm/mags/ammy and sent assists/ wesker and chun assist. After them maybe dorm and phx maybe wolvy maybe dante but I’m not sold

No way Phoenix means easy wins. It’s gonna be a chore and a half keeping her alive in this high damage environment.

Ah. What’s hot about the master of magnetism? And Mr.Howlett over the son of Sparda? That’s interesting.

She seems like a literal glass cannon.

She has some great moves to put up a good offense and make her a good asset, but I’ve seen Ryu beyond half-life her in 5 hits, making her have to play a really cautious game especially against character who can lay down a solid offensive and rack damage like Dante and Iron Man.

I’ll play with her though still

that would be a serious oversight, but in mvc2, it was 1 assist per combo as long as the assist hit the opponent. one of the japanese marvel players would do IM infinite while calling Storm typhoon assist to help build as much meter as possible during the combo. it was possible because typhoon never hit the opponent

Mags is really fast as usual but what keeps him and storm in the fight vs phx is a full screen super.Storm hail and Mags lvl3 squeeze insta kill her, i dont think anyone else can really touch her at all, minus just getting lucky which isnt extremely rare.

Problem is the one controlling her is human. And dying in one combo is just a no go. People DO get lucky. It happens quite a bit and even more then that people fuck up too. I dunno about her being top. I think she will be very match-up dependent. I can’t see someone that requires so much synergy as top tier compared to such a toolbox like Trish or Storm.

Strider, in MvC2 Strider was a character who required the team to be built around him. Phoenix same applies but even more so.

Won’t see her much but in the right hands( AKA Strider in Clockwork) will be a powerful force.

ya you definitely have to design around her, you basically are looking at

  • a character that gains meter in his/her playstyle and doesnt use it to be effective (mags/wes/chris…etc)
  • a meter building assist (ammy/morrigan…etc?)
  • a meter charging character (fel/thor…etc?)
obvious problems for any formation though, lose basically all usefull assist, or have to play a shitty character

Speaking of that, are there any advantages of using Morrigan over Ammy if you’re going for the meter-charging assist? Other than maybe having slightly better health?

She’s probably a better rushdown character, but Ammy seems more DHC friendly to me. Ammy would probably be the better meter choice though.

Morrigan is a better member for the team due to Ammy is going be more hyper focused with her shuffle(what the tri elemntal is called) and her mist. Both are going to be useful where Morrigan really won’t be as meter extensive except for like her blade hyper OTG to extend the combo for more meter.

Sample combo: A, B, C, B shoryuken, D+C (stomp), C, E (launch), B, B, C, fireball, hyper.

Her D+C (only in mid air) air command reminds me of Bison’s head stomp, and makes the enemy bounce in the ground and keep on. It’s usable either in air series of after a well landed srk.

Using Phoenix on point is just asking to die your going to need someone like Dormammu or Sentinel who can stay out their for a long time and gain meter.

Can she X-Factor out of a combo as long as she’s on the ground?

Yes…like everyone else.

Unless HF has another property we don’t know about (which is entirely possible, although Seth dubunked it having any defensive properties) I just wouldn’t want Jean leading off. Putting DPh on the field is too much of advantage to not take advantage of. Without it, she’s Storm with much less stamina. Not that there’s anything wrong with Storm, but the stamina problem is too much of a risk.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

HF needs to be able to do something else other than heal red damage. Otherwise it’s pretty much worthless.
