I can't control it! - The Phoenix Thread

What are people’s thoughts on team building with her? What assists will she really need? As mentioned, I think a close range lockdown assist is needed (Chun legs, etc), but after that what do you guys think? Anti Air? Projectile? Utility?

What I’m also trying to keep in mind is not only the assist synergy with her, but her partners as well. Do you guys think it will be difficult designing a team around her, when you don’t intend on using her on point? I see few of posts about the fear of using her as an assists because she could get GGPOed easily by a random super. If you aren’t using her as an assist then that sounds like you’re heavily depending on your two partners for their own synergy, correct? So how do you build a team with that in mind? What characters will give Phoenix great assists, but will also be able to cover themselves while you’re waiting for 5 super bars? Cause they way I see it right now, if you plan on putting Phoenix in the 3rd spot then you will largely be fighting a 2vs3 match until you get your 5 bars.

What I’m trying to get at is that your two other characters better have some good shit between themselves, so that they don’t get steamrolled and leave Phoenix on her own.

I dunno maybe I’m majorly jumping to conclusions hahaha. Anyone agree/disagree with this?

FWIW I think Ammy will be a fucking awesome partner for Phoenix because of the lockdown coldstar assist, safe Phoenix–>Ammy DHCs (maybe be needed to safely tag out DPh), and her slow super DHCed into healing field will give Phoenix an even easier opportunity to rushdown.

no way

if anybody even sniffs a dark phoenix assist and they throw out a hyper she is done

Well, Ammy’s definitely going on one of my Phoenix teams and she’ll probably lead off. She can build meter and has a pair of good assists thathelp Jean with Cold Star and the meter build assist. Ammy seems to be pretty varied and notr needing of much except maybe an AA. Maybe one of Jean’s assists is an AA? I still don’t think we’ve seen all of Jean’s moves (hence the reason I think Capcom sandbagging).

I really don’t see a problem with getting the meter to 5. I really think all I need to do is get to 3 and a half and I’ll switch her in, and get the rest of it. People keep making it sound like building meter is soo difficult. Dude… you get meter when you block. I know it’s not SF3 when you build meter by whiffing attacks but building meter should be no problem, even if you’re using hypers normally.

I think the only judicious way I’ll be using the other characters hypers is by not using them for chipping as much as I would normally unless I have a character advantage.

I personally plan on using her in the middle of my team. And I want either a tank with my battery or an all-around class character (like Storm or Dante) with my battery to stabilize the team and be my last line of defense to a loss.

As far as getting owned because she’s an assist… i’ll have to see what her other assists are. We’ve only seen one and she’s not on the screen overtly long during it.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

I believe that you’ll see DPh every match whether a few hypers are used or not.

I think Dante/Sentinel/Phoenix or Sent/Haggar/Phoenix is the way to go. I’m going to try this when i get the game… i think it’s best to bring phoenix out when the opponent is at the right condition for you.

You could pair her with Hulk for his GTFO assist, and maybe use Morrigan/Felicia/Arthur as batteries? idk

You have a point, but it’s not always obvious at first when your watching the match videos. You kind of just take it for what it is. Thats why we discuss here on the forums to try to bring the obvious into the picture so it’s understood. Thank you for sharing cuz even I did’nt take that into concideration

Right now a lot of people just think Pheonix is broken because there is not enough information out there. Look, remember every character revealed was labeled immediatly with some negative assumption. Once the character got enough hands on exposure the character is all of a sudden respected. I guess humans are very visual minded people, we don’t believe it until we see it and thats whats happening with Pheonix and currently Sentinel.

I’m not too big on Phoenix, but I like the sound of trying to rack up full meter ASAP, throwing Phoenix out, RTSD watching her inevitably die & pop back, spam>hyper>DHC for awesome DPh assists and a character that sounds TERRIFYING to have to fight one on one at the end of a match

gimmicky? hell yes. flashy? totally. full of win? perhaps maybe.

lol

Whats to stop people from snapping Phoenix in and killing her before you even see 5 meter. Also building 5 meter isn’t free you know, not like MVC2. You gotta actually fight.

I think I’ll just turtle it out vs Phoenix if you did have 5 meter and let time run out if I had the lead.

I just cant take a character seriously that dies in 1 easy combo.

Nothing. So go ahead and do it. What’s to stop me from killing you when Phoenix is snapped in? Or counter switching back out?

  That’s the LAST thing you’re gonna wanna do against Phoenix. You’ll see soon enough.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

BRING IT!!!

Healing style Jean.

Looking like Healing style DPH or bust.

The team I intend to try is Wesker (low gunshot assist)/Phoenix (homing fireball assist if she has it)/Chun (Lightning Legs). I want to use Wesker to deal damage, build meter, and generally RTSD. Chun LL can provide him time to go for high/low mixup, and Wesker gunshot + Phoenix assist XX Wesker teleport can set up some left/right mixup nastiness. Whenever I feel like Wesker needs to escape, he can Maximum Wesker and then DHC to Phoenix. On hit, DHC to the big Phoenix fire wave thing, on block to Healing Shield. Once Phoenix is in, she can use Chun LL for pressure and chip and she can use Wesker to set up unblockables. Dark Phoenix is sort of a Plan B or last resort in this plan, I guess.

The way DHCs work in this game, if you DHC from Wesker to Phoenix in my team example, and no other tags or switches happen, the order will then be Phoenix/Wesker/Chun (this is different from how it worked in MvC2, where the character DHCing out went to the back of the line). If I need to get Phoenix or Dark Phoenix out of town, DHCing into Maximum Wesker or into Wesker’s Counter hyper should both be fairly safe options.

Anyone thinking of jean/doom?

That would seem like a great combo.

The thing i have w/ phoenix is that even strider almost never died to a one bar combo. Hell, Akuma almost never died to one combo let alone a basic one to Ryu. This is if you get hit once, it’s guaranteed game over.

phoenix vs dante…dark phoenix mode activated…tag in x-23…dash up A B C SNAP…phoenix snapped in, 100% combo

or same scenario but with sent…corner fast fly combo

LOL GOODNITENOW

I have yet to see anything from Phoenix thats scary or nerve enducing, other than it being a down tot he wire match and she gets dark phoenix mode

If Ms.Grey’s damage was Wesker level or a little more then I could see her taking damage like that. But as of right now I see nothig to justify her having no life and dying in one combo. I mean obviously they wanted her to be able to hit DPH mode quickly so they gave her crap health, but gotdamn Capcom. Think you went a little overboard maybe?

well with phoenix and dark phoenix combined you probably have as much health as a low health character

guess they would call this balanced

Does any1 know if phoenix’s assist properties are changed when she is transformed into dark phoenix?

they are buffed yes

I think, you should go all out on the opponent when in darjk phoenix mode. She has that insane damage out put and massive screen control, so tagging out can be a waste/ For the guy that says phoenix does regular damage, you need to watch again. Watch the amount of block damage she gave x-23, that was high block damage. Just watch all of phoenix’s vids, she does have the greatest screen control. Her projectiles are fast in zoning, they provide great damage, they are spamable, and her teleports are fast (the fastest in the game). She has nearly all the offensive moves.

So in order to use her, you really need a team that has good vitality to help bring her in at the right time.

weskers ports are the fastest in the game
